CHANGES: Rd 18 vs Port Adelaide
Neither of those players help fix our problems. I'm not totally against Hunt coming in, I really want Gus back to the wing, which means Jordon out or to a different role and then either Hunt or Rivers in. But replacing two of our better kicks with two of our worst isn't a good move IMO.

POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Rubbish. Sparrow was poor tonight, but his previous 3 games were good, especially the last 2. Silly call, even by your game day standards mate.

Gus terrible tonight. Get him back to the wing, Jordon out, Rivers in.- GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Trash comment, as most of yours have been tonight.- GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Geelong
NAIDOC Week. Nice touch from the club.- GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Few sideglances probably going around the playing group when this weeks theme was presented I reckon...- TEAMS: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Probably Bedford, who I like and has shown some good signs, but just seemed the likely call if so.- Farewell Luke Jackson
What's the go there Colm? First I've heard about that. Intriguing.- TEAMS: Rd 17 vs Geelong
But just like your numerous posts defending his form based on your interpretation of the nuances around it, there is also nuance around his continued selection (and selection in general). I'm not sure why you highlight one and ignore the other. Clearly Brown is historically our best forward, at least out of the options available. So getting him into form/better form/great form (whatever way you choose to define it) is important in the run to finals yeah? That would already give him an edge on Mitch or Sam. Then, add onto that the lack of 'great form' of those other two and really it makes BBB the current best option in the circumstances. There's more to selection than just doing the job vs not doing the job, clearly there's lots in between and context around future planning. And come on mate, the 'I'll go with the premiership coach' line is a cop out. Nowhere did I say Brown should not be playing this week, even in the changes thread I had Weid definitely coming out and maybe Mitch. But should Brown have a poor game and Weid/Mitch perform ok for Casey then let's revisit this next week and see what Goody decides.- Farewell Luke Jackson
Haha that is actually fair enough mate! FWIW, I don't believe WC are even in play in this situation. Will be us or Freo.- Farewell Luke Jackson
I would suggest the currency would need to be MORE than what we paid for him. So if the Eagles get permission to trade pick (let's say) 3, I don't think we would do that as a deal. Eagles: Hey would you take pick 3 for Jackson? Dees: Ummmmmm no Eagles: Well, how about if we split our picks and offer picks 10 and 22 (points matching) Dees; Lol what? As for part 2, you're absolutely right, there's a ton of other potential options there, perhaps you can provide an idea of a realistic scenario based on the current indicative order and ability to trade future picks?- TEAMS: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Hang on. So do you think he's not in form and fatigued, or do you think he's not under performing and is in form?- Farewell Luke Jackson
Mate. Everyone understood what you were saying. The point was even with splitting picks they would still need to trade both to get anywhere near the currency for a trade for Jackson, so they're still left with no first rounders. Then you talked about splitting future picks for other teams future picks and honestly I'm not sure that has ever happened or ever would? Not sure you'd find multiple teams willing to take that gamble in one trade.- TEAMS: Rd 17 vs Geelong
To be fair to Brown, I think that would be due to the different game styles he's been asked to play between North and MFC. Was much more a leading player at North, that's how they got it to him, whereas with us it's more short leads and long kick contests. Maybe his form is partly due to him 'over correcting' in that contested marking situation style? The games I've gone to this year I've watched our forwards closely, and the lack of movement and leading has been noticeable. I was blaming the mids for bombing it all the time in the first couple of weeks before I started going to games, and then I noticed how much the share of the blame should be on the forwards as well. So while I agree he's getting less frees, I think the reason behind it is the different style of play between teams, and I don't reckon anyone is expecting him to kick 60 a year for us.- TEAMS: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Come on mate. Lots of excuses there for a player out of form. To imply his job is to make sure no one, including himself, marks it, to run away from goals to confuse people and he doesn't even have to kick goals is pretty disingenuous. And to use Goody's pressers as evidence is flimsy at best. We've all seen enough of his pressers now to know he plays a straight bat to defend his players. I don't doubt he runs lots, all our players do, I don't think anyone has a problem with his running efforts do they? I've not seen that brought up as a criticism, though may have missed it of course. The criticisms are his leading has all but disappeared, his pressure is non-existent, his contested marking (even bringing the ball to ground) is well down on what it should be, he's burned teammates a few times and he's not hitting the scoreboard consistently. You talk of the important aspects of our forward half. We would agree a big part of that is pressure and 'bringing the ball to ground' correct? This season he averages: 0.6 tackles (below average) 0.3 tackles inside 50 (below average) 6.1 pressure acts (below average) 3.5 marks (below average) 1.8 marks inside 50 (average) 0.9 contested marks (below average) 1 marks on lead (below average) 1.4 forward 50 ground ball gets 0.3 goal assists (below average) Not sure if you can share where you got the distance covered details from either? Would be great if you could share. From what I found on the AFL app (it only lists the top 5 players): v Crows - Not in the top 5 players v Lions - Not in the top 5 players, and not in our top 3 v Pies - Not in the top 5 players v Swans - Not in the top 5 players v Dockers - Not in the top 5 players v Roos - Not in the top 5 players That's as far back as I bothered going. I'm wanting to back him in to find form as I think we are going to REALLY need him come finals, but my question is - If he doesn't show enough this week to suggest he's finding form well enough at AFL level, is a couple of weeks at VFL level the better way to get him into form?- TEAMS: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Agree, would have kept Mitch in this week to try and help Ben find form.- TEAMS: Rd 17 vs Geelong
No, you're trying to create things I've said now. Others said his job is to bring the ball to ground, I said it's more than that. Do you disagree? I said he needs to find form, and if he doesn't find it soon at AFL level then he should be dropped to find it at VFL level. Do you disagree? As I already said, none of Ben Brown, Mitch Brown or Weideman are in form. Ben is the most important and has the best history as a player, so he's the one being backed in ahead of the others to find form. Seriously mate, I've explained all this stuff more than enough now, you're just trying to turn what I said into something else.- TEAMS: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Not sure what Weid has got to do with anything? Nowhere did I say he should be playing currently or that he's in better form than Brown. We're talking about Brown's form and lack of impact and how it might be hard for him to turn it around without proper tall forward support. "Really should've had two more"? Come on mate. So are you saying his form is fine? Fair bit of defending going on when all I've said is he needs to contribute more or he could be dropped to find form. We need him in form for finals. Weid and Mitch Brown aren't reliable options, TMac may not be around, Jackson isn't a forward, so whatever it takes to get him back up we need to do IMO. Currently he's not leading well, not taking contested marks, not applying pressure, and in a fair few games he's been outmarked so hasn't even brought it to ground. I just want him in form for finals, we'll need him even more than last year.- TEAMS: Rd 17 vs Geelong
I disagree with all the posters who have got it in their heads that Brown's only job is 'bring the ball to ground'. I think that's used by Goody as a defence of his players and have 0 doubt he would want more than that from our key forwards. I agree it makes it harder for him being the only key forward, which is why my original comment was around that very thing.- TEAMS: Rd 17 vs Geelong
He doesn't have much option atm. At least one of BBB, Mitch or Weid needs to be picked, but none are offering much presently. BBB has the best record and seems the best bet for backing into form, that's why he's picked this week IMO. You don't really believe out of form senior players are never picked purely out of necessity and/or trying to find form right?- TEAMS: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Might not have been the best term to use, replace it with 'perform'. I'm not expecting a bag of goals by any stretch, but he's a non-contributor at present.- TEAMS: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Neither Jackson or Gawn are really forwards though, and I remember Gawn and Ben Brown mucking up contests for each other earlier this year. Our best lineup is BBB, TMac and then Jackson and Gawn, Goody has even talked about that being our preferred structure, so I don't think Brown having an, at best, part time forward as support sometimes is going to help much with him finding some form. - GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Geelong
