Splitting the pick I'm guessing.

We have to use at least 3 don't we?
-
Not good currently.... haha

This is bizarre... Surely we're after Hill, Papley, Daniher, someone? From the HS North Melbourne will back Melbourne to battle again next year after agreeing to a risky pick swap that sees them hand over pick 8 this year. The Herald Sun can reveal the Roos will give up their No.8 pick this year but get Melbourne’s 26 and 50, and receive the Demons first-rounder next year. The Roos will win from a points perspective even if the Demons win the Grand Final next year, effectively getting three picks for one. But if the Demons finish mid-table or worse, they will cash in with a huge pick haul. The Roos believe the draft is particularly even this year so could select the same type of player with pick 26. They could also move up the draft again, now having 26, 27, 47 and 50. The deal will hand Melbourne picks 3 and eight in this year’s draft, a bumper haul that could also see them handing those picks to another club for an established player. The Roos have had a quiet trade week given no interest in Mason Wood, but will back in their established talent to rise up the ladder.

Wonder if we're making a late move for someone via trade? Otherwise I'm not sure on trading 26, 50 and quite possibly pick 6-10 for pick 8.

Would have cost them less to pay that designer for his 1 hour of work as opposed to spending 2 years "developing" their ripoff concept that they may get sued for...

Stealing their branding ideas too... Port Adelaide’s new logo under fire after designer claims club ripped off his work

I'm a big fan of Sparrow. Has a real burst that we might not see at senior level until he has the tank to play more midfield, but once he does it will be a real asset to our mix of mids. Tough and competitive by nature, but with a burst of speed.

Just feels like we need to focus on the other end of the ground now though. Not against it, but only if he was dirt cheap.

I haven't followed the draft super closely this year, didn't expect I'd need to, classic MFC stitch up, but from what I've read about the probable order etc it feels like the type of players we need more aren't expected to go at pick 3, so wouldn't it make more sense to split it? I know 'best available' is the old tune, but 1 x best available vs 2 x best fit makes it not so clear surely? Instead of ending up with another inside mid type, or more depth at the defensive end, we could possibly split pick 3 and end up scoring say Stephens, Weightman and then Pickett (2nd round), which could totally change our dynamic going forward. Is that a genuine possibility?

I think it was a mixture of the original rule being really confusing, a new rule and a rule only starting once the first 4 years was up... Messy stuff as per usual with the AFL.

We don't have to use a first round pick this year. We just have to use at least one in the next 2 years as it's a rolling 4 year period.

Someone in the Media Thinks We'll Rise Again
Lord Nev replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
That the same Montagna that reckons Frost is a lockdown defender (widely acknowledged as a weakness of his) and May (widely acknowledged as a very good 1 on 1 player) only an intercept player? “I think the big disadvantage for Melbourne now is Frost could lock down on the big star full forwards and Steven May could do what he does best, which is intercept mark, win a fair bit of the footy,” Montagna said. Time for the MFC to grow a pair and take a risk.

Don't count your chickens on this just yet... -
Thanks mate, was more about those changes in how the list works with rookie spots being part of the main list now etc.
-
Thanks mate! Great info.

What about rookie spots? Aren't they all included in the same list now? (Can't remember what the exact changes were) Smith and Walker gone as far as rookies go.

2020 Assistant Coach Prospects: The Next Batch
Lord Nev replied to Lord Nev's topic in Melbourne Demons
Seems to be a bit like the re-signing batch we had where they did it over time but then put out the one announcement later on. Weird way to do it, but from what I've seen most (if not all) clubs have taken down their staff pages from their websites so maybe there's some new procedure or some other reason behind the scenes. -
2020 Assistant Coach Prospects: The Next Batch
Lord Nev replied to Lord Nev's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah, my post wasn't very clear I realized afterwards. Camporeale was the one I was talking about in an assistant coach capacity. He might not have come on, but I seem to remember a few years ago he was all the rage. -
My maths came out pretty different (as above in the post you replied to), and I guess it's a wait and see with ladder positions, but I genuinely appreciate that you went and did all that! Love a bit of draft calculator action!
-
Not really correct. As it stands over the whole trade period, we're down approx. 400 points, which is about pick 40.
-
Feels like this is how we roll most years. We get our targeted deals done about 3/4s of the way through and then sit back and see if anything else comes up for us. Most times is seems like that's it, but never know. Gut feel is we'll do the pick 3 split, but might not get anymore player trades done.

Hammer Comes Down at the Crows After External Review
Lord Nev replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
To be air though, Camporeale was senior assistant which is a position you would think their new senior coach would want to choose himself. Likely more assistants will be cut too once the new coach starts appointing their own people.
