James Harmes is being wasted
Guessing it's to do with game time % or something, but not sure.

James Harmes is being wasted
With Sparrow out, why not move Harmes into that midfield rotation spot now?

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Western Bulldogs
This group just don't want it. They'll run hard when it's easy to do so against weak opposition, but when they actually have to work hard they give up. A great coach could sort them out, but there's very few of them around and we have a talented but stubborn and boring one. We'll hear the same messages, see the same underperforming players picked and the cycle continues.

GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Bulldogs
Another great 'Before The Bounce' by Gibbo today. If you haven't watched it; jump on even to just to hear Jones talk about his support of the Indigenous boys, speaks really really well on it. I might be reading into it, but you just get the feeling that Bennell is already a bit of a leader in a way at the club.

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
I also mentioned his injury problems previously as part of the reason we wouldn't want him IMO.

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
Totally agree that from an outsiders perspective things seem to have gotten a bit worse over there, and a move might be good for him, I just don't think it would be to the Dees. Whatever happens; I hope he gets it all together, bloke has been through more than most his age.

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
Yes, I gave my opinion. Can you quote where I said 'you're not thinking straight'?
-
Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
Sorry, I know I said I would leave it, but need to correct these statements. Nowhere did I say you're not thinking straight. No one has said there are 'sour grapes'. The willingness of the club to trade him should tell you how keen they'd be to trade him back in though.

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
I won't keep banging on, don't want to hijack the thread, so I'll make this my last one. He hasn't produced on the field for 2 season. He was traded away with no hesitation by Melbourne so I don't understand where you're getting this welcome home vibe from (other than supporter romanticism). It's not up to Melbourne to do things for him, we're trying to be a successful footy club. People are projecting things onto this situation that just aren't factual.

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
Take your point. But all reports were Bennell had moved past his off field issues. That's where the difference is.

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
Absolutely has a ton of talent and did some good things with us. No argument there whatsoever. Situations aren't static though.

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
Ok, maybe it's no irrelevant then given we decided to trade him off. That should tell you something. Haven't seen any other threads dedicated to an opposition player who can't get a game. Make up your mind mate, it's it "not just about the romanticism" or is it "relevant on several fronts" that he's a former Demon?
-
Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
25. Averaged 0 goals this year. Being a former Melbourne player is irrelevant.
-
Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
Been at Freo for 2 seasons in peak AFL age. Gone downhill the whole time. Not doubting his talent, but he got what he apparently wanted and has gone backwards ever since. Of course it's about the romanticism. Haven't seen anyone pining for any other forwards that can't get a game. Players careers aren't always linear and consistent, ask Tom McDonald.

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
If he wasn't named Jesse Hogan, and we were just talking about some bloke from Freo with off field issues, injury problems and who is struggling for a game so badly that he's possibly being switched ends; there's no way this thread is going the way it is so far. Big no from me.

AFL Most Improved 2019 to 2020
2. Mitch Hannan (MELB): 166.5% Intercepting defender Williams tops the charts, closely followed by Mitch Hannan from Melbourne and Will Setterfield from Carlton. Hannan rates elite for score assists, and his accuracy – which remains a critical element to determine the AFL Player Ratings – has jumped from 50 per cent to 70 per cent. Despite these numbers, the forward was dropped for Round 12 and would have been an emergency had he not fallen ill. 8. Christian Petracca (MELB): 68.8% Of the top 31 most improved players this year, just one averaged more than 10 Ratings Points per 100 minutes last year: Christian Petracca. The rest were coming off relatively low bases. From an already lofty perch, the Demons midfielder has taken another quantum leap in 2020, averaging 19.2 Ratings Points per outing. He’s the 8th most improved player in the AFL and it is little wonder he’s second favourite for the Brownlow Medal behind Lachie Neale, who is Brisbane’s sixth most improved performer. Bulldog’s 189 per cent explosion; Demons’ sleeping giant awakens: 10 most improved players in AFL

The 2020 Trade Period
Yeah we're all speculating, and totally get where you're coming from. My opinion is the factors that meant we were willing to trade him have only gone downhill (obviously guessing from the outside) plus his form is a mess. Just can't see us making a play for someone we were keen to trade out when they're not even as good a player anymore. Given Kennedy's age you wouldn't put the Eagles out of the picture, but it feels a little like Freo or bust at the moment. In saying all that, he's a young bloke, he's a competitor, he may get the wake up call he needs and turn it around.
