Isn't Hickey retiring ? Opening up this trade skirmish.

Good work DD.
-
DD thanks for your response. What I should have said instead we "have to live with it " was that "it's ours to own and recognise it and take possession." And fix it. Regarding blame who is the logical person other than the Forward Coach? He is the appointed Coach fir that area of our footy ( hopefully no longer). You can criticise the Mids coach for poor connectivity but Stafford has to work this out with Ooze if he sees this as a problem. That's another task has to discuss to solve the mess of our forward line. That may or maybe not had been done. If so it's another fail by Stafford. You could say the whole issue is created by Goody as he wants our forwards to be defenders ie Spargo and ANB to tackle snd defend rather than kick goals!! Which are a bonus! This emphasis on defence is derailing our footy and forward potential and the main reason for our disconnect and sloppy mess to scoring along with poor accuracy to boot. It's a team thing ultimately but someone has to be responsible and if not successful moved on as part of a solution to solve it. No flag until solved!!

I will disagree as no 2 games are alike. Team games are all about on the day and taking your chances. And the team dynamics etc. You can't say for sure ( although you are claiming ) that we were missing players who had no role in the previous game. Yes but this doesn't take into account a defensive player tagging another for no goals for Instance. Based on goals scored Melky and JVR were more likely to score than others. Melky got some goals last year to get us over the line also. Your assessment is too simplistic As the more class that plays puts more pressure on the opposition. in addition we had Fritsch back who is our most reliable goal scorer. It's all about the team pressure and we scored 9.17 that's 26 shots to 8.8 their only 16 shots.in Round 22. Most results would also favour a side with 26 to 18 shots any time. We were unluckier last Friday than in Round 22 or more wasteful. You could say. In addition that Round 22 was an outlier with Melky as he was in a purple patch in the last 6/7 Rounds and the Carlton game he didn't score a goal ! Smithy bobbed up with 3 to replace him in the Semi but to also have Jake would have out much more pressure on their defence. Really it was our bad forward play even with another 8 shots that we can only blame ourselves. ( not sure how you thought the umpiring was but many Dees fans were disgusted with the umps notably No 22 ). Unfortunately when we wake on Sat morning the HeraldSun still had a Carlton win. We have to live with our poor conversion and make some changes to our game plan and perhaps seek some fresh ideas from a new Assistant Forward Coach. It's been a problem for at least 2 years. So it's one theory you can put forward about personnel but it doesn't overall IMO pass the test let alone the Pub Test with 8 more scoring shots. I will take that every day of the week on law of averages but still say we would have won if Melky and JVR had played on the balance of the team this season. That's only my opinion any way. Cheers but we have to get better and stop butchering the ball and be more efficient forward of centre no matter who is playing up front for us.

Sorry not quite that simple. But a bloodylotbetter.

Well he is responsible for the Coaches and the players along with the Footy Dept. Match Day is his baby !! Friday night would be about 5/6 in the box and 3/4 selection out of 10 Great move of Kossie to FF which nearly paid off snd it was at the start of the 3rd quarter, not with 10 mins to go. What would have been wrong with Kossie bring in the square for the last 2 ball ups ( bounces) ? Just gut feel !
-
That's hardly "patching together" Who else is better that we have got at present plus Kossie and a couple of more mids/smalls, Plus ANB Trac at times.
-
It's depth also .

Good summary DeeS Yes we must put time into Disco. Really should have been selected for 10/12 games on what he did vs Swans. Sure injury stalled Disco but he should he first choice before Tommo. Both May even play together. I am not so sure Disco couldn't handle some HFFlankers as well. If Disco had those dozen games he might genuinely be ready for AFL from Round 1. Maybe he will do a Juddy and be ready. Hope Jed comes back with 7/8 kilos on ready for a big jump in performance. Has shown some good patches.

Agree yes we were right in it but we killed our easier op last week and nailed the second again through our 1% ers cruelling us. All basically our decision making snd lack of composure. Not sure it is teachable to everyone but let's try. Selection and use if Sub this week a horror show. Ruck in forward line Sgete was Tmac at the bounces etc? Just remember other teams have failed in the top4 and won the following year/s. Job is now to sift through the "wreckage " and solve the problem ASAP . List needs addressing in some areas and succession plans for 30 plus snd older should be paramount. Injuries we're the elephant in the room and depth not good enough to cover our forwards. 2024 is crucial for the next flag Hopes as decisions on the playing list will see some top ups waiting in the wings ( literally maybe) May be from Casey Forwards from trade and draft plus outside runners the draft again. And a deck chair shift in coaches with one at least perhaps over board after the front of the vessel has had its secondtrip mostly wasted snd tending towards underground in paradise.

Ask yourself what part of our game needs Petty the most? Forward of course. Who replaces Petty down back Disco of course. And possibly Adams for Maysie.after 2024/5 when some cameos have been given so he develops.
-
Wrong wrong wrong A fit Petty Will HEAD UP a rejuvenated forward line and DISCO will be Added to the backline. It's a sad affair he has not been given this season like McVee to adjust and he would be ready made now for 2024. He still has to go through some teething but I can see him over that quickly early in 2024.
-
Agree try bloody hard but are wasteful and misguided and confused under pressure.
-
Tend to agree we are not playing real natural aggressive and instinctive football. We tend to do one hand ball too many often and our decision making from between half back and centre is awful deplorable and so far from free thinking it is holding us up as a group and as a Club. I feel it's the balance between defence and attack ( posted in another post ) now ingrained as a DON'T LOSE PHILOSOPHY rather than GO FOR A WIN that is holding back most playersHood teams play instinctive footy snd cope with errors. We are burdened with poor goal kicking accuracy ( much mental ie Trac etc.) and confusing foot passing and leading and marking issues. It's the system and uncertainty which reveals itself so easily on the ground. Is it any surprise that as the game gets closer in the fourth quarter we inevitably feel this pressure and lose our composure. It's happened over 2/3 years now and not one player has stood up above this inward pressure to really make a statement NO LOnGER is this going to go on. We need a different balance snd in many ways despite the fantastic relationship Goody has built with the players is it too comfortable and no feedback results. Then there Is still a stubborn side to Goody I believe despite his modifications this year. Otherwise our forward worries would have been addressed far more successfully than up to now which is about as bad as it has been. New Assistants with new ideas is needed badly snd more tinkering with the defenders and attackers balance is necessary. It might have already been a cancer which is ingrained too far for some. So plenty I trading drafting and list decisions is crucial for our next 3:4 years in the flag window. We are not far away from it ie some say a finger nail. I say yes to that but we need some good old brain tinkering to open up our responses and instincts to then free ourselves of our fear of failure on our endeavours on the field.

On the reasons snd discussion and the current situation of the Club in the Hun today our No 8 and chief interceptor does himself no harm in this next leader discussion. I am not saying a change of Capt or Vice is necessary or even a major topic in our Club for next year but a Deputy Vice Captain could be added. our Leadership Group is not publicly trotted out so this could be in a similar vein.
-
Really YIWAWFTA you are wrong on both counts I believe. Petty won't decide where he plays the MFC Selectors and Coaches will and it was the SA news team or AFC suggesting Petty as a trade for McAdam. Totally in jest as far as we Dees think. It appears it is all they can thinkis that as a SA boy Harry May want to go home! Harmes or Tommo or 3rd rounder !!
-
Apologies for some factual errors in this post ie game was on Friday night and Kossie is duetomiss the 2024 opening. Hopefully McAdam will make his in this Round now.
-
Hopefully this will finally stop Kossie from continuing to try for mOTCentury. He has not got ONE yet !! any Dees far who wishes he try and continue to attempt these died not understand football. Funny but not one of the Coaches appears to have curtailed his desire. Slmost the same situation with his tackling. Started the year with 4 goals snd great game starting in the centre. snd suspended. Now finishes his year with almost similar illegal bump! Missing first round in 2025. No learnings !!! A mid year loss of form was also disappointing snd bewildering. To me we are letting his career slip by a little without really getting a jump in improvement from year to year. A little tough love for Kossie is due IMO. His goal tally per game is still pretty reasonable but a little more in 2024 would add to his talent without crude tackling and morecrumbing and less unrealistic attempts. Having said these negatives I still love Kossie and just want him to go to another level in his career. Also kudos to Goody when he placed him at FF on Sat night. He nearly got us home with leading snd team play snd his goals. Let's hope 2024 is his best season yet.

While some of your questions posed were sensible there was a great deal of so so and past history also added without much knowledge what's really out there. indeed only Mark Neeld missed out on a mention from now to 2000 or beyond. I agree that Chaplin deserves to stay but even he is part guilty of our lack of drive and dare from our backline which actually sets up scores and aggressive attacks on goal. Ehile I don't disagree with Yze as forward coach someone from outside the Club is a much more sensible option to completely revamp this madly confused and wasteful part of our game. And it's been 2 years at least in the firing line and NO IMPROVEMENT at all. Far too long for Stafford still presiding there snd far too defensive in execution in its plannings. The ideas of mostly legends of some early 2000's and others last century should be looked at is crazy. We need up to date modern creative thinking brains from the last playing groups of about 3/4 years to chart our next assault in 2024. Brett Ratten has already indicated he wants to change from coaching but I would use either Lyon Schwartz or Neitz ( or all three together) to be asked their opinions on our mid and forward issues as a starting point not as a coach. I still think we can improve our mids especially in the connection to forward and centre bounce take away issues ehich are not stellar given the three best players of our generation are all involved. Clearly selection is another area of some disconnect. For Goody to say that Schache was there for Maxy for his toe break only is incomprehensible. Josh has played more hours in the ruck snd has performed reasonable forward and backline tasks at both the Lions and Bulldogs not to have him ready about halfway into the third quarter to replace Tommy Mac in addition. We missed a trick there just like in 2022 Semi when Petty was only given 10 mins to win the game vs Lions. Too little ( or nothing) too late again!! Goody has been far more adventurous this season and needs to continue this pattern. But our FD has to sit down and work out who is now essential and in our plans for 2024 and beyond and also which trade draft and rookie options we can assemble for a full assault over the next 5 years. Also involved is the very tricky final years for Maxy BBB Tmac. Etc. Would love to be fly in the wall in the "off" season which had never looked so busy.

Inside 50's also would be pertinent.

Binman IMO is toeing the party line that that's what Goody has assessed our list is best suited way to attack by concentrating on repeat chances if the ball is kept in the arc. He has not offered an alternative opinion and is justifying that as we have the 2021 Flag under Goody a good chance to repeat this year not to question it. The last 10 mins of the second quarter snd a reasonable portion of the second half this played out much in that fashion. However as happens we failed to score enough to win as in last week, and another few losses such as GWS snd Carlton in Round 22. My take on this is damming. While we have various midfield inside bulls and forwards heavily invested in defence it takes away the natural flair and dare etc to attack plus IMO creates confusion in the minds of our forwards and mids resulting in a crowded mess of players forming packs and scrums. We also are not sharp at snapshots. Yesterday proved that again. To me it's far too defensive in practice and mind boggling in giving footballers this plan to execute. Surely after this has failed consistently in our losses it seems to me that our list is not versatile enough to handle this method under real pressure and it should be abandoned. If I have misunderstood this In any way I apologise. Binman May wish to comment of course about my interpretation.

So could have Schache. He has rucked far more than Tmac in VFL and AFL.

Sarah (Palin) is awaiting with much anticipation. She has abandoned her lookout towards Russia for her south west post fixed looking securely towards the antipodes.
-
No they are not feral like the filth. On a roll which will show how far they are off a flag really when the Lions feed on them and create a 5/8 goal buffer. Great effort by them after a scary early season but I refuse to believe they have gone past us for 2024.

Petty is not a pinch hitter he is the major player please !!
