The no injuries stuff is a bit of a myth. Our first two choice talls come preason were Brown & Weid - neither played til at least round 7. Equally, Tomlinson going down could have completely stuffed us if we didn't have Petty waiting in the wings and ready to explode.

It's funny cause he's incredibly composed whilst still picking up the pace of the game. He'll feel like he has all the time in the world in year 2. Imagine two of your first home & away games being against West Coast in Perth, against Jeelong in Jeelong, followed by three finals. A baptism of fire.

It somewhat worked in the first few rounds as the umpires actually gave players time to kick the footy. After a few weeks they went back to calling play two seconds after every mark, rushing the kicker.
All the anti-Mac propaganda in the world won't see him slide to the second round I'm afraid! It would be interesting tho, to see if we would have matched if he was taken pick 2, if we were allowed to.
