Are you joking? Taylor and the scouts watch the players throughout the year and then present to the footy department before the draft. Richardson, Goodwin and the assistant coaches have their input, ask questions and give their thoughts on what kind of players we’re lacking, but have very little say on the final picks. Nobody would accept a head recruiter’s role if they don’t actually get to choose the players they want, especially at the top end.

Petracca did play predominantly forward. Oliver, Petracca and Viney didn’t attend a single centre bounce together. What game were you watching?

It’s a completely reasonable question. You don’t expect your first and second year players to come in and dominate straight away, or even show consistency throughout the season. What you do expect to see from first round picks are little moments and glimmers of class, passages of play that give you a glimpse into their futures. Not saying he won’t make it but I haven’t seen any of that yet with Tholstrup. It’s all very blue collar sort of stuff.

If you’d told me at the start of the season that after 11 rounds we’d be 5-6 but I’d be feeling as positive about the club as I am, I’d have suggested you got your head read. Just have to keep this momentum going Dees.

Because he’s shown next to nothing when he’s played from the start mate. His energy shines through when he comes on for a quarter when the opposition’s tiring.

If Jack’s not ready it’s Tholstrup or Hendo for mine. Would like to see Hendo get a chance while we’re playing some decent footy unlike the ****eshow of the start of the season when that position was an absolute graveyard.

Totally agree that we’re moving past the point where we can have both Oliver and Viney in the same midfield. But it’s not Oliver who’ll find his spot in jeopardy. He can do everything Jack can do but to a higher level. Because of everything you say about getting minutes into all those others, who all make us better, for me Jack has to re-invent himself as a pressure forward if he’s going to keep himself in the 22.

I was pretty disappointed with the way Christian handled himself towards the end of last year. But credit where it’s due, he’s put his head down, bum up, gone to work and re-invested in his footy club. Congratulations on the milestone Melbourne’s only Norm Smith medallist, may there be plenty left to come 👏
