From memory, he was at the 50 arc and when Demons exploded out of the centre, Sparrow moved towards the centre and the dogs players retreated at first expecting a long kick. That gave him space.

Daniel I think went forward of Sparrow to challenge Oliver. Again giving Sparrow space.

So we have a run on and the dogs defence left Sparra standing unmarked directly in front on the 50 metre arc.....they were doing a zonal defence in case some one tried a blinder from the boundary??? who is their defensive coach?

  2. Clubs didnt have a clue on the draft or how to pick players or use picks. (Febey at 250+ games was the most successful? player from the first draft?.)

When the Hawks picked Alex McDonald as Nos 1 I remember Jeans saying he was not the best footballer, but the type of footballer they most needed.  And remember when the Saints picked 'Jack' Frost?  Or when we picked Luke Molan?  Picks are no longer used to send a message.

The KRock call of the 2009 last quarter is immense if you're a Cats fan.

Is KRock the old 3GL? or similar?  if so the prelim final call would be like

Bounce of the ball, Stanley up high, Dangerfield clearly held, play on, knocked forward, great defensive work by Henderson,........goal to Melbourne

Bounce of the ball, Stanley up even higher, Selwood clearly held, play on, knocked forward, great defensive work by Bews,........goal to Melbourne.  Special Comments : I think the Dees have shot their bolt.

    Repeat

We offered Cam a one year deal and the Hawks offered two, so he took the two. He approached the Hawks and I believe Clarkson tried to talk him out of leaving Melbourne.

I remember when Hawkins played his first game, I think it was, for the Cats and we put Cam on him, he monstered Cam and rag dolled him in the first contest they were in, one of the worst matchups I've ever seen.

We wanted to keep Cam so got rid of Jnr, and then Cam walked.  We were left with our pants down and egg on our face.  PJ said one of the first things he had to do was repair the damage caused by getting rid of Jnr.  The mind still boggles.

I doubt those age gaps made much difference. You are really only talking about Liberatore as a difference.

Most experienced players don't decline until after about 30. In fact since the effects of experience and training are cumulative, they should still be getting better.

Sides like Geelong are a different story.

I was trying to find a definitive reason why a quality side like the Dogs, 19 points up in a GF, got flogged by the MIGHTY DEMONS.

Self believe, fitness and exuberance of youth with younger legs were key factors.

Not sure about experienced players not declining until 30.  Any occupation that requires quick reflexes does not go seeking people in their late 20s.  Still thats not everything, the Bont was so slow in getting to his feet that he was in excellent position to kick his 3rd quarter goal.

I'm sure the back of Max's head feels better already knowing Mumford has retired. Having watched the Anzac Eve game again on Saturday, Riewoldt and Nankervis can f off as well!!

In what seems like another life I was at a Pies/Tigers game at Vic Park - every time Peter Moore went for a mark, Mark Lee punched him in the back of the head.

I also remember Luke Darcy punching Woey? so hard in the back of the head I was surprised his noggin didnt end up on the top deck of Colonial Dome.

  7. True Detective - got half way the 2nd series.....

Better Call Saul - I was into Breaking Bad but got nearly to the end;  I asked a friend how did it end and they said What do you think?, so I stopped.

Ozark - yes. (There is a line in there where the wife says she would like to start a new life in the middle of nowhere, Mullumbimby, which is inland from Byron Bay. Obviously the writer has been out that way)

    Any comedy or sci fi?

More like too young Smith Dunkley  Bont McRae and Hunter are  still young ish others are 24 plus inc Libba and Treloar who with Bont and Smith  were their best.

I have had a couple of wines or two but Libba is 29, Treloar is 28, Mcrae is 27, Hunter is 26, Bont is 25, Dunks 24 and Smith just a kid

Viney 27,  Harmes 26, Tracca 25, Oliver 24, Sparrow just a kid, who else do we run through the middle?

Now the Dogs are a quality side and I am trying to understand why we won the way we did. I think you can see the difference in the ages.

Libba played like he was 29 and it was a shocker.  Treloar played a good game mainly because he kicked 3 goals. The Dogs midfield was too old when they came up against the Dees.  Add in Jacko at 20 vs English at 24 or Gawn at 29 vs Martin at 34.

Our aged players were mainly down the goal to goal line - BB, TMc, (Gawn)....May (and btw thats why I think we need to use pick 17 for a tall).

I liked it all but season 4 was terrific.  The show was also about so much more than the courtroom drama's that eventuated

But that's just my view ... each to their own

I thought season 1 was great with all the dynamics (ex partner ex wife etc) but after that...

Have you seen Bosch? Great plot but the back story is like watching CFC highlights

The 4th and final season of Goliath was brilliant ... of course, I am a big fan of Billy Bob Thornton but the whole cast really nailed series 4

Set in dark, damp Chinatown (San Fransisco) series 4 is for 'Noir' fans. Be prepared to be surprised ... the best show I've seen this year!

And the first season of 'Only Murders in the Building' was very funny and very entertaining

Marty Short & Steve Martin were just mesmerisingly good ... and there's more to come.  The sort of show you can watch on repeat

I didnt finish season 2, Should i have persevered?

Is it just me or did the dogs seem very flat coming out in the last. Its like they had already surrendered.

Surrendered? Nope.  They just couldnt get the ball, we were the best team this year, It took them 2.5 quarters to get 19 points up and the Dees 10 minutes to get 24 points up.  (Don't tell anyone but their mid field is too old).

I’m waiting until round 5 to renew. Sick of the false hope.

That is dangerous. You won't have your membership card at the ready to throw down the players race if we drop an early game. 😁

(I think in Balmeys first year we dropped the first 4 games.  I was so angry I went into the rooms after game 4 to give them a spray.  I saw Todd and Brett lying on the floor, absolutely shot. They would have needed a stretcher to get to the showers. I didn't say a thing.  I felt like an absolute  human reproductive organ. Mind you some of the crowd were gobbing off.)

in the 70s and 80s, goal kicking has not improved at all.

I will take a slightly contrarian view in that in those days there were gun full forwards who regularly kicked bags.  They hardly exist these days and there seems to be a larger spread of goal kickers - more players have got better at kicking.  This may just be poor memory but it seems harder goals are also being kicked.

In terms of improvements I think some of our defensive matchups could be improved, Spargo on Stanley, Viney on the Bont and Bowey standing the mark on a long set shot come to mind.
