    Don't leave us guessing!

    Glad that you asked.

I get the impression that the government would like everyone to be supportive when an announcement is made, and one of them isnt at the moment. I believe that is the MRC.

More talks were scheduled for later this week, so it is still in progress.

  2. Berry first out on the park followed by the Coach with some unknown, which turned out to be his son, Oscar. Participated in many of the drills, including kick to kick with dad.

All present except for Rivers and Petty. Bowey arrived late and was watching on. Obviously has a sore foot. TC in a serious neck brace and walked the boundary at a gentle pace. Viney headed back to the sheds after an hour, pursued by autograph hunters.

Laurie had the no contact hat on but did not seem to be troubled by his hand. Max also with the finger guard has become adept at marking one handed.

Sharpie running like a gazelle. So much for a hammy. Maysie running laps, moving better than previous weeks, building condition. Mihocek looks ready to go to me. Salo did not have that 'groin niggle' from last Wednesday.

I liked the defenders drill, two on one where you block an opponent so that a team mate can get a clear run.

    200+ spectators in attendance.

The makers of Drive to Survive have done a series on the AFL based on the 2025 season and guess which club features prominently throughout?

Yep The Demons. Just when we thought the trials and tribulations of 2025 were past us out comes a docu that will shine a spotlight on the machinations of the AFL and Demons

Great. The other clubs to feature are the DOgs (Bontomepelli) Brisbane (Zorko and Rayner), the Giants (of course!), Gold Coast (what a surprise) and Freo.

Strangely enough the Lachie Neale sag won't be highlighted but you can be sure Oliver, Trac, Goodwin etc will be front and centre.

if thats LN snag then I hope not....

  4. Went early as I had to leave early. When I arrived at 9:10 players were already out, some doing a beep test. Berry struggling.

3 players I didnt see - Bowey, Laurie and Campbell - though Campbell turned up late. And so did Ghosty for that matter.

Miohcek has had a hair cut.

McAdam and Henderson on the bikes and in rehab kit. Everyone else in full training kit.

Rehab, and by this I mean they occassionally dropped out to do specialist drills - Miohcek, Viney, Gawn (finger) Sharpie (hammy)

    Onleys nickname is Ron

Chin and Rick in good voice.

    Tom Mathews still looks small.

Kossi and Salo had a good stretch with the trainer before starting. AJ had some magic ointment on the back.

I dont think anyone would be surprised that we are practising fast, continuous, ball movement.

    Left early.

A tunnel from our facilities to the ovals, inside the 28m wide track, can be dug without interfering with the racetrack.

I am sure the tunnel could be done at a time when the track is not used during Caulfield downtime and they also own Sandown and Mornington racetracks as well.

Yes, it is possible to dig a tunnel under a 28m wide racetrack without disturbing the top track layer using trenchless construction methods. These specialized engineering techniques are designed to minimize surface disruption, making them ideal for tunneling beneath active infrastructure like roads, railways, and racetracks.

    Methods for Non-Disruptive Tunneling

The primary methods used for this type of application are:

    • Microtunneling This is a remotely controlled, steerable system where a small-diameter boring machine (MTBM) excavates the tunnel. As the machine advances, pre-fabricated pipes are simultaneously jacked into the ground behind it, providing immediate structural support and ensuring ground stability. This method is highly accurate and minimizes ground settlement, which is crucial for sensitive surface structures.

    • Pipe Jacking Similar to microtunneling, this method involves pushing pre-fabricated pipes or box sections through the ground using powerful hydraulic jacks from a drive shaft. It is commonly used for installing utilities or pedestrian subways under existing infrastructure without interrupting surface traffic.

    • Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) For larger tunnels (such as a full vehicle underpass), a TBM could be used. Modern TBMs with positive face pressure control (like Earth Pressure Balance or Slurry Shield) are specifically designed to operate in urban environments and soft ground conditions while maintaining soil pressure to prevent surface subsidence.

    Key Considerations for Success

    • Geotechnical Investigation Before construction begins, a thorough site investigation of the ground and soil conditions (including groundwater levels) is essential to select the appropriate method and machine. Unexpected ground conditions are a main cause of failure in trenchless projects.

    • Minimum Depth of Cover The tunnel must be installed at a sufficient depth below the track to ensure the stability of the surface. A qualified tunnelling engineer would determine the precise minimum depth required based on the soil type and tunnel size.

    • Monitoring The process involves continuous and sensitive monitoring of the ground and the track surface to detect any minute movements and make real-time adjustments to the jacking pressure or excavation rate.

    • Logistics The construction will require entry and exit shafts (jacking and reception pits) at either end of the proposed tunnel path, located away from the racetrack itself.

By employing these advanced engineering techniques, the structural integrity and operational functionality of the racetrack can be maintained during the tunneling process.

Puts a completely different perspective on tunneling. Still a free kick to the MRC?

I fail to see how the Melbourne Racing Club has a dog in the race ( excuse the pun ). Surely they will be just a co- tenant and any problems that arise would be heard by the management (MRC, MFC, Mt Scopus, GOVT Steering Committee).

Well if the track has to be dug up to build a tunnel then the MRC may have something to say about that.

It’s a joke.. Guerra isn’t responsible of what’s happened in the past but plenty of others still on the board who along with Pert since 2018 failed to nail this

Like who? apart from Brad Green who has been there since 2020 I would say the average tennure of the current board is about 2 years

I understand this part of it, but what I don't quite understand is how MFC is tied in with Mount Scopus.

Do we share board members? Are there coterie and donors attached to the college and the MFC? Or is it simply interest in the same parcel of land tying the two together?

We are not tied to the Mt Scopus development

but there would be a stronger case for developing community sporting facilites in the centre of the course if the school goes ahead.

The $30 million evenly split btw State and Federal Government seems roughly inline with other clubs. I do wonder if we end up self funding whether we would press the AFL to uninvite or at least make State and Federal Government officials pay to attend any matches that we play in.

As we want to build on crown land there is no point in antagonising the government.

Wasn't it reported that we basically paid our bit in a lump sum to get it off our books asap. Even if our cap is affected by it for a few more years. Same thing with Goodwin I think.

To comply with Aus Accounting Standards all payments were recorded as being paid in our last financial year (although the payments are going to happen in the future.) I think we should have a liability some where in our books for the outstanding amounts, I think.

  11. I think the club made the right decision and I wish him all the best.

Perhaps his greatest supporter was Goody and with him going the writing was on the wall.

Clarrie still has lots of mates amongst the players but the playing group is happy he has gone to another club.
