There may be an obvious answer to this question which escapes me right now, but who was the last player to leave Melbourne for another VFL/AFL club and then come back? Anyone since Carl Ditterich?

I appreciate that it happens rarely across the competition, although there have been some notable exceptions, such as G Ablett Jr, Paul Salmon, Johnn Barnes and Trent Croad. But it's rare and, I suspect a guide to suggest that it won't happen this time, either.

RDB came back as coach does that count

This is massive. I'm just thinking the additional expenditure to fly VFL teams around the country... frankly I find it baffling.

    This bit struck me too:

"The Victorian clubs as well as Sydney, GWS, Brisbane and Gold Coast will be allowed to either field their own teams in the new VFL, align with an existing team or spread their players across multiple clubs."

    So the alignments

    they are kidding surely

    Agreed Buck, somewhat different types.

However, I'd like Bennell back to gain form and confidence. He is a classy finisher and will add a different type of pressure. Kossie is the future no doubt but he is young bodied and inexperienced. A rest and reset might just help him produce more outcomes for his flash and dash. Also with Spargo filling a similar role, we can afford to rest him.

All true but it worries me carrying a player who is not100% and leaving out a player who is,seems to send the wrong message to the group
