This is a great post, and some much needed focus/positivity. Personally, I've never potted the players, their effort or commitment to the club. Nor have I asked/demanded Goody be sacked, although it's fair to ask whether he is the right man going forward (although there are many questions which need answering, to be fair) and must be asked as part of the current/planned 'review' (or re-review). My greatest gripe right now is, as you say, with the governance. We have been a rabble for years and I am fearful that this will lead us to slide back down the relevance ladder again (after a brief, but enjoyable period at the top, back at the table, in conversations etc.), and it won't be stopped in time. It took us DECADES to become relevant again, with some good/lucky recruitment/trades etc. I'm disappointed with the review we did, its clearly failed implementation and the lack of regular reference to its findings/recommendations. No club with the 2024 we had, following that review, our strong list, comes out to start with an insipid 0-5. Except us. Very Melbourne. I have been a diehard Dee since '88 when Jimmy and Garry came to my school and told me they'd win the flag that year (close, even if an ugly way to finish 2nd). Member for 21 years. This means so much to me, as it does so many on here. It's more than a club and more than a game. Even if that is weird to say, because ultimately it is just a bunch of people kicking the footy around. Sometimes really well. So far all we have had is reviews for the sake of reviews and words for the sake of words. I never fully trust these boards because they are usually filled with self-interested people from power, who like to stay in power for the sake of power and prestige. And us little people, even if there are a few of us, never seem to displace that. Case in point, Peter Lawrence. I'm sick of seeing the Cats, Hawks and Pies always floating back up to the top. In the Cats' case, staying there for 20+ years. I don't want any more words. I want action. Real, tangible action. Will we get it though?

I know Brad doesn't like to be seen as/called an interim president. But with nowhere [censored] like this, acknowledging frustration and anger... we're not in the position we want to be... (??!), he is well and truly an interim president with no vision and no cojones. DO SOMETHING. ANYTHING. The last one of those emails sounded the same. BS corporate speak. And here we are, in the same place, arguably worse. To refresh your memory. From April this year: "I’m writing to acknowledge what has been a disappointing start to the season. Sitting at 0–5 isn’t the standard we expect of ourselves, and we know it’s frustrating, for our members, supporters, and everyone inside the club. What I can assure you of is that we have a determined group of players and coaches who will drive the team’s response". In case you missed it, lots of acknowledging, frustration, and not meeting standards. What happened from there? Response? Fleeting, and inconsistent.

Guys, relax, you're missing the point of the email. They ACKNOWLEDGE that we're not up to standard! They're just like you and me, they are also very cranky. stomps foot - so very, very cranky, and it makes them want to just scream. OK!? It's been acknowledged and they're cranky like you and me so we can all rest easy. It's not like we have already had a review into the club, because we weren't up to standard last year, and this year was supposed to be a bounce back into contention... (BTS, we have lost Brad, if we hadn't already lost him before - swallowed up by the corporate spin machine)

Agree. I think the whoosh sounds for each dot point. And there will be many, many, many, many, many dot points. For all the learnings, of course.

I am guessing Goody will be presenting some of this year's learnings to the Board tonight...

Yep, the shortest ‘defined’ brand of footy and dynasty, ever. We were promised a nice car that would do 100k - 200k, but after a great couple of years, it’s on the side of road waiting to be collected, at maybe 30,000km. Probably headed for scraps. From the doldrums we came, and it looks like that’s where we are headed, again (from hell and back, and back again, or whatever we are up to with those DVDs), as no one seems to be bothered that it took us decades to become relevant again, and who knows when we’ll get that chance again.

Classic Dees And that’s one of the things right there. The difference between our best and worst is too far. Probably the most jarring in the league. And the fact that it happens so often, and sometimes in the same game is disheartening. One of the reasons we can’t get big crowds to games. We are not a trustworthy team. You just don’t know who you’re going to see if you head to a game, and that’s inexcusable.

This is beyond farcical and highly improbable. IF true - and I highly doubt it - it shows how desperate we are. Fitness and motivation (not $$$) will be key factors here, and I'm sorry, but I already have my doubts about both of those with some of the current playing list, who have been unable to run out/maintain pressure or consistency in games (potentially due to one or both of those factors). For completeness, this is not a dig at their efforts as such, I never pot the boys for effort. If they are unfit, or misaligned with motivation, for whatever reason, that will impact games. We don't need another player who will potentially, and very likely, tick both those boxes. Another too-risky-to-be-worth-it move. Please keep looking. As with my comments on the trade targets thread, the reality is, obviously, we are not a destination club. We are a club probably coming off the back of 14th, then likely bottom 4. We need some big moves (trading out some, I am sure), and then need to sell the vision to potentials that next year will be one of success, not a continued downward slide. Sort of where I am sitting with Dogga if that's even remotely true. The Dockers look like they may (haha who knows though) be on the up, why move for bottom 4? The only sell is he would be here for top dog role, and success. Anyway, I digreess. No, thank you.

If you get a game, it is because you have earnt an opportunity to get some game time and find your feet. There are ZERO expectations from the good many of us who know this will take TIME.
