Mental strength has nothing to do with it if your heart’s not in it. Anyway, one could just as easily argue that he’s shown a great deal of mental strength in fronting up publicly and pulling the pin on his AFL career before season’s end - especially knowing full well that such a move would open himself up to the kind of ill-informed, mean-spirited commentary and ridicule that has come his way, yours included.

    Incredible.

The suggestion that Balic isn't a drinker is laughable. Have a look at his Instagram. He certainly enjoys a good time. The rumours out of Freo are that he enjoyed too much of a good time with a certain teammate who notoriously enjoys a 'good time'.

Isn't this the same bloke whose Mum offered to pay his salary if he elected not to go to Perth and play football. I mean, what hope did the kid have of having the mental strength to succeed

The amount naivety floating around on this topic just astounds me, clearly the boy was spoilt rotten and enjoyed the good life a tad too much.

The joys of social media, as they say a picture tells a thousand words.

At least the boys at peace with himself.

    Case Closed.

The timing of this announcement is a bit bizarre for me. I thought I saw him at training today?  I remember watching him at training preseason and he was often gasping for air, obviously physically underdone early but then of recent times he has looked very comfortable at training, moves well and executes well. Is playing well with Casey and has a finals campaign ahead, why pull the pin this early? Where is the grind in VFL/AFL once you have worked up your fitness to acceptable levels as he has done? Us mere mortals will never understand.

Exactly, thank you Earl. Why now?

He`s a young man dealing with mental health issues which have probably had a fair bit to do with his decision. There is far more to life than footy.

I`d say your post is a poor effort in my book.

Maybe he should have cut ties earlier then.

I've been saying for years these numbers are a load of crap, and this data further supports it.

Either report in actual dollars received from memberships or in 11 game equivalents (ie 3.67 x 3 game m/ships = 1 x 11 game m/ship), or just don't bother.

I'm sure a club like St Kilda is boasting about increased member numbers, whereas their membership revenue would be significantly reduced and their crowd numbers are well down on last year.

Ditto all crap Whorethorn,Pies, Ess = pet memberships/ 3 game memberships love to see the real figures for 11 game memberships.

  6. Jugding by what goody said about Viney, we may not see him until the first week of the finals.

He will not be risked in Perth on that hard deck. I think wise heads will keep him clear of the GWS game.

As for Hibbo It looks like a return for the West Coast game.

I was sitting in the cheer squad 6 rows back and got to have a close look at Jenkins and more significantly Oscar on Jenkins. Jenkins was rag dolling him early. Oscar couldn't match him one on one and was just knocked off his feet. Sitting there looking close up at him and Walker and Lynch and McGovern and Betts and seeing Oscar getting monstered so easily I was thinking early on this is daunting this forward line looks scary intimidating. But Oscar held Jenkins goalless and did enough in enough contests to negate his influence. Stats can be funny things. He only had 4 disposals but there's no stats for the amount of times he beat Jenkins punching the ball away and stopping him marking. They need a stat for that for stats to have any relevance for a backman's role.  Jetts only had 4 stats but you wouldn't have thought that either with his influence.

On the other hand Frosty had the physical strength to take Tex on one on one and beat him and once he took off Tex didn't even try to catch him. Frosty has a very rare X factor with height, strength and speed. His decisions, brain fades and skill can be scary but I'm surprised he hasn't been given more of a go. He played a significant role in the win. I have no doubt there's at least two games we would have won if he'd been selected.

I've been astounded that Frosty hadn't been given a run even with Lever in the team, his pace is x factor big time, closing speed, tacking, spoiling and can take a mark.

Has a bit of Micky Martin about him when he just slaps it on his boot (get out of my area style) but i can live with that.

Hogan IMO is Not your typical tall forward.   He doesn't have a big leap or reach.  So he's not a deep forward.

He is getting crashed when playing deep, with the ball being kicked on his head.

He is more your mobile CHF who does his best when moving around the field, a bit like Schwarta.

Weide will be your deep forward.

TMc is also a CHF, who rolls back with the ball.

Jesse needs a rest, before its too late to give him that.  I think Hogan needs 2 weeks off to unload.

Pedo is ready and waiting, can do 3 major roles.  Weide is waiting.

Hannan, IMO, could play intercept defender.

Has too have a rest this week, its a must.

  9. I think at some point Goody is going to unleash Vanders, whether it is this week or next we need his hardness and tackling pressure. If we are going to come close to Richmond we need hard bodies like Vanders.

In a football sense this gives me a hard on having him in our forward line, spearheading our assault on a flag.

He'll be a bulldozer bullocking around the paddock taking out all and sundry.

Were working on his knee and groin all game. Also big hit in his back. Seemed ok above the shoulders just couldn't get any spring, so just caused a spillage as it's more reliable than going for a mark.

Same result though. If he can't push off he's a liability. Like all players. I have him as my best F in all my fantasy leagues, and even I'm ok with him taking a week, particularly if it's soft-tissue related.

get him cherry ripe for sydney and the run home need him playing like he did before the break.

How many times can I say given Hogan a rest?

He's had knee, ankle and last week a hip and now another knee. Isn't jumping, isn't playing with any speed. Get him right. Play Weids or Tim Smith for the week.

The fringe midfield/half forward brigade: Tyson, JKH, Spargo, ANB, Jeffy all did enough to keep their spots. Can't see how Vanders comes in there unless he plays a blinder.

Joel Smith - horrible first half, but not so terrible to the extent that I'd be removing him for Josh Wagner or another fringe defender.

has to happen this week, struggled big time last night could not move.

ANB was one of 4 players I paid attention to tonight (usually a differ t group each week), thought he was fantastic and I actually do see his pressure acts, you won’t see them if you don’t watch closely and they won’t show up on the stats sheet but I can see the value in his team first attitude.

He stood up tonight when it got tough. Ive been a ANB basher in past but he really got stuck in tonight, down and dirty nibbler.

The exact moment the pressure valve went whoosh. Epic contest win by Hogan too who otherwise had a game to forget.

I take back every bad word ive said about J.Lewis stood up when we need somebody to get us going.

No? If we make finals he simply cannot play. He will cost us.

Im not a Nibbler fan but tonight he put his body on the line and was important in laying tackles in tight, He was tackling his with intent tonight.
