  1. On reflection of that post, I think I am projecting all my anxieties onto the players...
  2. I'd be arguing that after a few close losses, they would prefer to take a scalp to reinforce that they still can. Unless there is an acknowledgement that perhaps they are a bit fatigued this week and are in a loading phase*, thus they internally acknowledge that it has a direct impact to run out games. *🐈 amongst the 🐦 comment...
  3. Not [censored] mate, they’re reducing risk of injury, mind you that’s only appropriate for other teams… not for the Dees.
  4. 😇🤷‍♂️
  5. And other people can have a response to how others responding. And you can have a response at their response and so on.. it’s all very meta. I was pointing out the ‘ridiculousness’ of judging people that clap… it certainly doesn’t sound like you’re ok with people being supportive of an ex player… I was there and I clapped him, I also clapped when he sharked the ball and dobbed the goal at the punt road end that was effectively a sealer. He played well and I like to clap good play irrespective of the team or individual that does it. Greats of the game and society have left the game early due to booing, I’d like to think as a society we have evolved, and I get for some people, football is tribal and means a great more deal to them with the intensity of emotions, than it does in my own life. Enjoy your Sunday.
  6. Interesting stance that the posters on here who complain about people complaining on this forum about people complaining as it’s also ‘their right to complain’ - are the ones that complain about the people who engage in their right to clap a former player. 🤷‍♂️
  7. That’s no different to any other team though right? we didn’t lose to pressure - we lost on our inability to convert our opportunities…
  8. After taking my 7yo in the train to the ‘G’ today and revelling in his joy at watching the Dees live for the first time, circumstantially on the anniversary of my fathers death 7yo ago of MND, I reflected on the circle of life. oh and death and as we pulled into the south Geelong station at 7pm, hearing the crowd silence (yes hearing it) as GWS got another goal from about 800m away. I considered the fact that the AFL are reaching a version of the utopian vision of any team can win on any given day, bar 1-3 sides. What I know it means for ‘us’ is that 4 losses b 11 rounds in over the course of a 23 round season and the method of our other wins, hasn’t papered over deficiencies per se. It speaks of how close the competition is and really (inc Collingwood) there are no standouts. TL/DR We’re in it up to our eyeballs even though it doesn’t feel this way, as the disparity between the best and worst of the competition has contracted significantly. and it’s a good thing - but really stressful, if you want to smack teams weekly.
  9. Fumbles = loading 😀
  10. I'd be good to get an overall picture of how many quarters won scoring Collingwood (if they are a benchmark) have won. The same for how many quarters won for pressure vs opposition Not that elite pressure equals winning each quarter of course... Does Wheelo ratings do that @binman - I just checked and may have overlooked it
  11. Genuine question. What’s your year of birth?
  12. AFL AVG = 37 clearances Coll = 36.4 Melb = 34.8 #1 = 41.7 Bris
  13. It's as though the aggrieved only watch our games, and disregard, or don't have a bead on other teams🤷‍♂️
  14. What's the general consensus for how many more losses can the club have before "Is Goodwin the Right Guy" is back at number one on the thread list?
  15. I would see it as weird and cavalier by an organisation that in recent times takes a measured approach to all things industry, to only now take a position that ‘we’re being bullied’ and let’s challenge the hypocrisy on behalf of everyone one and now decided to act in line with an emotional response. But that’s just me 🙂
  16. I don't think you should conflate the two together. Nor have they 'grown a pair'. Each of these incidents would be independently evaluated and a decision made on merit. It's not a cultural shift.
  17. are you superstitious?
  18. Just an acknowledgement that we can’t be up every week and that in a 23 week campaign we will lose matches due to this. The fact that as supporters we look to ‘sense make’ anything that feels like a threat and look for patterns to ensure it never happens again. so no excuses per se, just my personal view that the factors contributing to a pattern against top 8 sides is more nuanced over a 35 game spread and we discount other factors that don’t fit the narrative that we are not good enough due to a lifetime of supporting a club that has not been good enough aside from 2021.
  19. Do the injuries count from round 10 onwards last year? The biggest predictor of success is players on the park at peak fitness… im not sure that was our experience last year…
  20. Fair comment, and I’m not going to disagree that it’s worrying. and then I remind myself 2022 we were crocked injury wise last year from mid year - that’s on the public record. and this year we’ve lost to PA by 4 points after a 5 day break lost to brisbane at the Gabba and had a [censored] one against Essendon
  21. I'll preface this by saying...I know I have an optimistic outlook. I'd argue that every single team that concedes a goal, every single week (let alone loses the match) will lose out to a single or multiple high pressure acts and the loss of a contest, that's the nature of the sport. Cliches abound. Including mine - 'You are never as good or as bad as you think'. The narrative would have been different if we'd got up by 2 or 8 points... "found a way etc etc..." I guess I think about what is a realistic expectation for me to have around, how long can our players keep up the effort quarter to quarter, and match to match and month to month. What's the expectation, is it 100% all time and if not, what is acceptable? And is it appropriate that players give 'less effort' and we win? Or is it only a problem if we lose. Again, is it realistic for me to think a player (or multiple players) will be up and about and on quarter after quarter after quarter after quarter. Another thing I like to think about is.... Are there any appropriate losses for Narrm to have along the way to a finals campaign? Do I feel that, If we lose to a team above us - we're making up numbers and...If we lose to a team below us - we're just not good enough. My, that's a pretty catastrophising response EO 😇* apols if that's condescending as [censored]. Anyway...another 3.5 months of football to go... that'd be another 13 matches. *what I’m saying is that it is not psychologically or physiologically to be up or on each week or quarter to quarter be it for an individual or a range of individuals. Once we start to understand that, due to the demands of a sport that are collision based and the fatigue that comes with that, perhaps our demanding entitlement as supporters might change a bit. No other sport in the world goes for as long throughout a season with the amount of impact physiologically and thus psychologically, as this one.
  22. Presume that crop is out Kentbruck way 😁
  23. Reading that gives a great sense of relief... thank you 😘
  24. I had a meal at Mamma Roma's last night - it faces the beach and views across the bay to Townsville, and the beers at the Brewery (far better than the Picnic Bay Hotel) were bloody magnificent last night. Highly recommend the Pilsner to go with a meal at Mamma Romas (which they allow to you take there). Go Dees! (and if you get a chance again, come back to Maggie, I can't advocate for it enough. We've got a little abode here, so is good to escape the southern climes - my dear wife and little man, have let me come and have a mini holiday). But no beers for me tonight - a 21km in 27deg heat with 700m of elevation tomorrow... so just waters in front of the TV tonight 😄 Too much info...probably.🤷‍♂️
