My take is that at times they will kick to packs - thats part of the game..is it bombing in nope - bombing in is kicking to a pack where we are in the minority... that is not happening. We will be fine... we have the crumbers as evidenced by quarter 2...

I think the issue is less with Lever - and more with opposition coaches isolating him - and therefore the coaching staff of Melbourne being about to work through the tactical challenges of the isolation and getting him back to the 3rd man up role. Kinda like, don't shoot the messenger - he's doing his role, and perhaps Goodwin et al could give the bloke a chop out. He's not here to mind Gorilla's, yet has been isolated in round 1 (granted Esava was a first gamer... but can seriously play). Hinkley and co - knows Jack does very few contested things... he wasn't brought in for that (although that clearly matters to Goodwin) - Watts is there for the spine (as someone pointed out yesterday) and also for the silk - which he has always had... he'll be a good fit for them... its irrelevant what anyone in the football public think of Jack and his softness (rightly or wrongly) - he is not there as a power forward and he is not a 'bull' - he is someone who they got to jag goals and help on the spread...heaven knows the Dee's need a few outside runners now (where are you J Gysberts).

My take on our inability to ‘crush’ teams is that it will come and maybe only 3 or so times a year. Reason being, the game and how defensive set ups are resolved this days even compared to 3 years ago don’t allow for blow outs - which is great from a competitive competition point of view. It’s not like the late 00’s and early 01’s of GEELONG and hawthorn. And unfortunately when gcfc and GWS were blooding their youth - we had no development. I would have assumed GWS would have annihilated Collingwood based purely on paper - was not to happen. So it’s not just us... it’s every team - and I think supporter expectations (and maybe success starved Melbourne ones) are out of wack with the reality of the game these days.
