@WERRIDEE, did you read the article? Do you understand his position and context? Do you still have the same opinion?

FWIW and I'm just one punter... Even though Jesse has a range of god given talents....I wonder whether he genuinely fits the system and culture that Goodwin really wants...

As an observation a ll players that I’ve been in contact with, know the commercial reality - they rarely speak of it as a brotherhood or all my mates - even the 18yo speak in terms of working in the organisation they are currently employed at. There is a generational shift in how they perceive the afl football landscape and understand that everyone and anyone can be gone and change clubs in this time for trades. To them it is merely a job... it’s hard to be passionate about your own job day in day out right? It’s no different for them. Its us supporters that still hold on to notions of tearing the fabric apart (yes not your words), when players leave.

Just a broad view thought Through the death of his father, through cancer, through signficant injury... there is a whole range of existential stuff playing out for him...and has been for sometime. I wouldn't blame him if he seeks the coin to play in his home state, where his mates are, at the expense of the relationships he has formed here...because nothing is guaranteed. He's 23 and may not value (because he is 23) what we perceive as a successful period of time...he may be a really pragmatic bloke, and think that, he has time in his career to be part of something bigger back home. Even though there is a whole lot of $$$ on offer presumably, it's clearly bigger than that for the bloke.

on a reflection, quite the fair point you have there @MurDoc516 ...erm, for the love of the red and the blue, and an electricity bill discount?

Since when does Gaff need to be traded for @praha? Ideally, Hogan--> Freo Neale ---> Brisbane Picks 4,5 to Melbourne Gaff to Melbourne Preuss to Melbourne May to Melbourne 5 to GC 4 to GWS Whitfield to Melbourne

Well @Tony Tea it still sounds as though it’s about the potential for something to happen rather than it is happening. fWIW - I’m almost happy for him to go to merely prove the point to some posters that it’s ok to discuss hypotheticals, as sometimes those hypotheticals occur.

Totally pleased... I come here for the debate, and opinions, anything is fair go as long as it isn't bigoted. Mind, it feels for the some that the emotional cost to not potentially have Hogan is too much, that they can't even hear a 'pub type conversation' that is happening on an internet forum. I like you're first point though, perhaps you could post that...and then exit the thread? Because as you say, it's a total waste of energy discussing Hogan leaving/trading options etc, unlike the meta debate about whether Hogan role in the team is worthy of a trade is appropriate or not... as that is far more worthy of energy.

Why @Jaded, it is a forum after all. You don't have to open the thread.

Josh Kelly
Yeah, you're right @Clint Bizkit. I'm thinking in terms of this shift towards 'pre-agency' from clubs... He's one year off becoming a free agent (am I wrong on this?), andGWS may want to maximise their return...this year instead.

Josh Kelly
What would need to occur (or what is the chance) of prising J Kelly away from GWS this trade period?

@layzie...he doesn't need to be traded for Some people also like the issue of $ taken off the table... ie: "I want what I am worth on the market but prepared to take a little less + presumed success "(and that presumed success offsets the extra 100k,200k). He might be a 'thug' now but I don't think he is a mercenary... ? Anyway we will find out if @ProDee is accurate or @Grimes Times is, in around 10 days methinks...

what logic is that? from the outside there are pros and cons for him to stay, to shift elsewhere, or come to the dee's... all as logical as one another.

Sigh... irrespective of what happens this week - we will still have to wait til after the the GF for Gaff to announce his coming to The Dees... In his press conference, he’ll talk about family reasons for returning, and if questioned, will rave about our list demographic and won’t take any questions re his relationship with Gus.

Fair enough " I can see how others may see it's a long bow...and by looking at how the FD have operated in managing past trades since the beginning of the Roo's era...one case would be J Lewis...." I am happy to be wrong (ill be happier if I am right)... I feel quite confident for those reasons outlined above.

I've just tried to find it online - it was back in april/may this year... alas I can't find anything. Happy for someone else to back me up on this one. Just stumbled across this @demon191919 - if youve got access to the sun.... I suspect this may confirm my memory.... AFL free agency: Melbourne to pursue another senior player | Herald ... https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/.../cd1231eb818ce14221037bc4d766ef6d Apr 16, 2018 - Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney said the Demons would be ... Asked if they would target a big fish, Mahoney said on Triple M: “You ... My point overall, is that Josh and the club have always been circumspect in what they put out to the media. I don't think it's such a long bow to say, that by confirming that they're merely looking at bringing someone in - means they've actually got an agreement in place with said person(s).

Believing that his punch links into his decision making about his future, is as useful as looking at tealeaves. FWIW, I'd imagine OMAC is on a lower $ contract to accomodate someone who is locked in...for the next two years...with an understanding that he will bump up in significant value...in 2020. Again my hunch comes back to Mahoney and his overt statements that we will land 1-2 significant players. The relationships between clubs and players are formed over many many months, not just the last quarter of a year...it'll take more than $ to lure Gaff to North... My feel is he is ours... and he'll get a good look at our squad again this weekend

Weirdly, listening to TMAC on Sen on Monday, he made mention that Oscar and himself were moving seperate ways with living together...and kind of seemed non committal about his brother... I wonder, just wonder as OMAC hasn't resigned, that he's received a juicy offer elsewhere... which, well ...fair play to him. There is nothing to suggest this is remotely the case in reality...it was just where my head wandered to.
