  1. I played for North Portland U/14's and couldn't even hit up a 20m target - but did win the best clubman award ... does my opinion count???
  2. What's the fascination with Preuss @dazzledavey36? Surely he would be selected if they felt he could contribute for the entire game, so if they're not selecting him, I would assume they know that he can't?
  3. with all due respect @bandicoot - I cannot for the life of me see that Pendlebury, or Moore, or whomever fretting over the r'ship of Buckley and Malthouse - it will be a non factor.
  4. ? - jeez @Demonland - your reputation must proceed you with all the club legends and cult legends lining up to have a yarn... great get and great work!
  5. Delving into a different area - and the gender roles in workplaces and what is deemed 'appropriate to display and not'... Anecdotal experiences from women in corporate positions discuss how if a women shows emotions (compassion, warmth, sadness, frustration) in a male dominated workplace - with archaic thinking - they're often labelled as emotional or crazy and hard to work with AND if they don't and are operating/perceived to be acting like men in the sense of 'clear direct leadership/cold pragmatic decisions' without the show of traditional notions of 'female compassion and empathy', then they're labelled as 'ball breakers' 'bossy or feisty' (rather than assertive), AND hard to work with! I love how this generation of young men and women discuss emotions more openly... and my context is that - I work in mental health and run my own practice - and from what I see from men 50 and above vs 30 -50 vs 20 to 30, there are clear attitudes and skill sets that present, in how to talk about emotions and what is appropriate to display and what is not. So the generational shift - even in the last 3 years is significant, and it's wonderful.
  6. Mmmm, no need to have real human experiences such as strong emotions eh.... in an industry where you are scruitinised internally by your own club and externally by pundits - week in week out... Frankly, on this occasion - you sound like the worst kind of 'Lifecoach...' who get's their slogans and soundbites from the airport bookstore.
  7. For forks sake - you're either winding folk up with that comment, or fail to understand the nuances of how delayed pre seasons, surgeries, and having half your 22 in essence a vfl team impacts on form. That stuff is far more relevant than a vague notion of 'getting ahead of themselves'. I'd love to see (and then debate you on) what you view as the indicators, that they 'got ahead of themselves....'
  8. Reading this article https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-06-07/crows-expect-gibbs-to-stay-but-is-the-trade-a-failure I wondered if Gibbs would add value to our side from an outside run and accurate kicking perspective... I'm not sure why, but I have had a soft spot for him (aside from his man-bun years) and still rate him as a footballer...
  9. why would ratten want to go back there?
  10. irrespective of outcome - im interested to see how the back line will start to function...
  11. They're not - media just pumping up a comment from Buckley who was pragmatically answering a question regarding Malthouse. He was very complimentary in a diplomatic way, whilst also being clear they don't get on... nor should that matter.
  12. Not so much a stab at you @Kent - just a general observation. It often feels on these forums and perpetuated in the media that good leadership is defined solely by the outcome of winning. You had good leadership if you win (so we had good leadership against the suns, but no one mentions it then) and if you lose it’s down to poor leadership. This notion of course is bollocks... leadership and the mechanics of it is an iterative process about providing instruction and a space to perform under pressure for all your ‘followers’. Over many many years. Personally, this binary view of leadership gets my knickers in a twist severely You can lead really well, perform really poorly yourself as a leader yet give great instruction and effort and still have injuries/significant players out/under done and you’re judged as a poor leader
  13. love these black and white statements - they're the reason I come to these forums.
  14. Got it in one- and if you want to get a bit neurosciencey - The act of empathy (genuine care and connection from coach/players) reduces cortisol and adrenaline and helps the athlete focus more on task next time. Ie: kicking fluently through the ball, rather than stabbing/guiding the kick (which is what players do when they're feeling anxious)....which increases the liklihood of a miss, and compounds the anxiety for the next time etc etc etc
  15. was that about Petracca? or the lame gag?
  16. you forgot Petracca to have his break out game...
  17. Always reminds me of this bloke... 'greatest brain on the field, great captain etc etc yadda yadda'.
  18. I find it amazing that some on this site - cannot see beyond a belief that 'whoever is on the park - has to/must be able to perform at first 22 level, irrespective of talent, experience etc'. The How Sick is Your Club stat - represents a lot of why we are, where we are. As a club we have been beaten massively by the injury stick... and these are the real world consequences that every club experience....
  19. Where's the evidence that that is occurring? Mon ami- instead of bluster, try and think about the valid reasons for this particular weekend why Preuss has not got a call up? I can start you off if you like...
  20. ergo...9 clubs get it wrong, 23 weeks a year?
  21. how's the serendipity of the timing of his debut
  22. Yes and the other factor - an amazing free kick differential...
  23. It reminds me of the Jetstar flight times - always say it's an extra 10-15 minutes, so you're always pleasantly surprised that 'yet again' you've arrived early. I think in 'org speak' - its called - expectation management
  24. Have these stats been tweeted or insta'd or whatever'd to the afl feed? Maybe to Gerard on Sen? Let's start a conversation for change... FMD - WCE, SYD (for the length of time) and WB for 2016 look like outliers eh... anyone who's got an account - flick it through to sirswampthing to get some p-values organised on that data.
  25. about as likely as those thinking that the next round will be Petracca's break out...
