People have been flippant about my criticism of the line “ should auld acquaintance be forgot” in response to “whadda we sing??!!” The only argument I’ve heard for it was...”it’s our tradition!” No-one is more tradition-bound than me.....BUT.... I find it a terrible anti-climax.......I’d like to sing something inspiring after asking “whadda we sing!?” I made an amateurish suggestion. Master Rackham improved on mine. Surely you creative Demon fanatics can come up with something better!!!

What about Glen James and Peter Carey.....they barrack for the Dees!

Pretty grim! Chook thinks our song is all we have going for us. I reckon we’ve got a tough , dedicated, spirited team, which is very well led.

I've always disliked the line in our anthem..."should auld acquaintance be forgot". It has absolutely no relevance(nowadays) to our club. (Apparently the players used to sing "Auld Lang Syne" in get -togethers after wins, but it's a really weak part of our otherwise great theme song.) Perhaps we could sing...."Just bring 'em on, we'll beat the lot !",instead. Can Demonlanders please have a think and suggest another line. It could be the best and most inspiring part of the song...(like "Yellow and Black!!" as mentioned in the OP.)

An Essendon supporter told me this week that they attribute their poor start to the 2018 season to Neeld. They sacked him then won 10 out of 14, he said.

It's a pity Casey have the week off now. We lose some of the advantage for the Seniors of having the Twos in the Finals. Hawthorn are lucky Box Hill came third. Now they can give players striving for firsts selection a go next week. We can't. At least it'll help the firsts if they get through to the GF.....fingers crossed.

I'm so accustomed to being outraged at the adjudication, that when we get a fair run, like last Sunday, I actually feel guilty. It happened on QB 2017, when we seemed to get a charmed run, and I felt guilty( but happy) after beating the Pies. The "snot-green maggots"* more than made up for it in round 23 2017. (*I liked this description from a previous poster! I've forgotten who it was.)

Has any Melbourne based club ever won 6 games interstate before? I presume interstate sides have, but I doubt if Melb clubs have. Admittedly 2 were “ home” games, but to win in Adelaide and Perth , plus the other four,is a great effort! We barrack for a good side.

Spot on,TGR. My mind went back to the Geelong game last minutes when Henderson sent it 60 m straight up the middle. I’ll never forget the last half minute of the ‘87 prelim. After our last behind, they torped it right up the centre, and ended up with Buckanara’s goal. But perhaps we should follow “Go the Biff’s” advice, when we’re a goal down with a minute to play. Don’t try and get it down the other end, just lament the way you’ve been playing all day!
