  1. Yeah, the lions were training there last night for the first time I believe. I really hope we [censored] them.
  2. That is such a great summation @binman There really is less fuss, staging, niggling, complaining, rubbish with the women's game. They just compete hard. It's what I love about football. I love watching the likes of Clarry out in the middle. His skills are almost Supernatural but one day there'll be a Sam Kerr in the AFLW and I really hope she's a demon. There's also a parallel between the ineptitude of FIFA and the AFL as well. If Sam Kerr was a bloke, she'd be the most well known highly paid sportsperson in this country. Great article.
  3. They're very good at very bad decisions. It's nuts. The combination of $10 per ticket and grab up to 10 tickets per person was way stupid. I would imagine there will be a tiny amount of Demons supporters there. It's really not fair for supporters of both clubs in the end. Capacity of 8000 people. What was it in Adelaide? Around 53000 at the final. And as for the Lions CEO touting how the stadium is as good as anything in the NFL when theirs currently seats 600 people while the rest will be standing in 35 degree heat on the day. The 50m arcs touch the centre square on a brand new stadium being built in the middle of nowhere. It's like John Clarke with the 97.5m 100m running track. It's an hour by train ride from Brisbane central and then a 24 minute walk to the stadium. It's worse than Metricon. Even Southport holds 8000 and would have more established facilities, transport, cover and accommodation. Plus the heat and surface risk to the players. The only silver lining I can see is that long term they are going to force Lions players to travel to Ipswich to train when most of them live in inner east Brisbane. The AFL are just complete clowns.
  4. I just tried with AFLW member bar codes and nope, nuthin
  5. and.... it appears to be sold out. I live 2 hours drive away and logged in 5 minutes after they were released. Sold out. FFS
  6. Just logged on to ticketmaster five minutes after they're released. No tickets available! Anyone else getting the same thing?
  7. Anyone know about the members ticketing? Is it Melbourne AFLW members or Melbourne AFL and AFLW members? I'd be spewing to miss a ticket.
  8. Just finished watching. We really took a while to get our rhythm but we got there. I thought Paxy was just bloody huge today. Inspirational. We're two and a half hours drive from some weird construction site of a footy field for the granny. It could be the first flag I see a Melbourne team secure live in the 55 years I've been alive. I can't wait. Let's do it girls. A team to be really proud of.
  9. Love this. They really do seem so relaxed confident and happy as a team. I'm super excited but went and saw the black Crowes during the week and I'm inspired to play some music today with some mates. So lots of jamming and then a delayed watch of the game with a lamb roast tonight. To everyone going today, yell your guts out for them. The whole team deserves this flag after so many years of going close. Go you demons
  10. Yep first three of four goals from frees in front. The amount of non frees to Adelaide was terrible too. Wardlaw was protected all night. There is no such thing as holding the ball in the women's league. We need to just take the tackler on. You'd have to be lucky to be pinged.
  11. If it's out at Ipswich, they should be able to line up some awesome half time entertainment with locals bringing their cars for a drifting event around the boundary line (if they have a boundary and if it's not a rectangular rugby league field we're playing on). Some ethical issues here for the AFL if half of the cars are stolen although ethics is not usually a concern for them. They can get the local limp bizkit covers band to play ( I believe they're called limp buzzcut as they're all airforce dudes from Amberly air base) They could also include a half time dash from goal line to goal line with competitors carrying a stolen flat screen tv. West Brisbanites love their AFL
  12. They could have milk crates painted in team colours for players to sit on. Dressing sheds could easily be put in place with a shipping container each. Goal posts. One wheely bin each for point posts. Two wheely bins placed on top of each other for goal posts. Gotta make it a showcase event.
  13. I would have thought Southport Sharks ground would have been a sensible option if the really wanted to play it in Qld. We'll done AFL. How's that betting scandal going? Clowns
  14. Thanks Kev. Great stuff Go Dees
  15. Haha yep. I've got a wonderful wife who was totally rugby union before I corrupted her into watching the Dees. She's been wonderful in supporting the whole GF gaurantee membership thing and buying in with me. I can't blame her for not having the same level of intensity watching games. She definitely does the "that's nice" thing too while doing some crochet or jumping online while I yell at the TV. You've gotta love any partner that buys into supporting this club even if it's not to the same level of madness.
  16. Oh man, I'd be sitting her down to watch a replay of last weekend's game. It was so good. A nice swanky lunch somewhere, then a ride over to Carlton for the game and then tappas and cocktails post match into the evening. You'd have to be on a winner. Happy anni and I hope you manage to squeeze a preliminary final in there somehow @palace
  17. That's fantastic @dee Viney. Good on you for contributing to the game. I think it's really underestimated how important women's football can be to the AFLs future. The younger kids both boys and girls can access most games in a quiet family environment at the moment. There's definitely some fantastic role models in our women's team to get kids following the Demons and help build our membership base into the future.
  18. I'm really enjoying watching our women's team. Not only in the way they play but the culture they seem to have created. Not only do they seem really tight together but they also seem to really be enjoying their football and being part of our club. Back on the field for the start of the third quarter, only 2 points up in a qualifying final and they're in a huddle and having a huge laugh together! Two minutes later, they're back into it in a ferocious manner and smashing the reigning premiers. It made me reflect on what seems to be a different culture between the men and the women. Would the blokes get away with having a laugh on the field like that? Would the media make a big storm out of it? I know the blokes are under much more scrutiny, but footy must be a grind at times and this team seems to be really enjoying what they do. This must help build a team first culture. Is there a couple of leaves that could be taken out of the women's team book by the men's team? Mick Stinear and his team seem to have done a great job at building culture and even adjusting game plans from last seasons grand final defeat to how they play now. It's all happened very quickly and even the changes made throughout games seem to be quick and effective (probably a slightly different tangent here I guess or maybe not). Taylor Harris has stated a number of times along the lines of "I'm just happy to be on the field and do what's asked of me as best I can". It's going to be a shame to lose someone like Daisy from our club too I think. She definitely seems to be part of that bond between them all. I reflected on the punch on in a french restaurant last year. Maybe there's an extra level of competitveness and sledging that's (generally speaking) just part of male culture? Maybe some demonlanders closer to the teams can give some more insight. If you're not watching the girls play yet, you really should. They're a team this club should be really proud of.
  19. Oh man how good is it without all that crowd activation stuff where you can just have a normal conversation. That was a wonderful tough game of footy. Glad you got along and enjoyed it Binman.
  20. Holy [censored] they must have been mounted when they wrote this.... First... Gritty Kangaroos and classy Lions win through to AFLW grand final Then later..... Richmond will now meet North Melbourne in the AFLW grand final only a fortnight after the Tigers drew with them to deny the Kangaroos a top-four finish. Amazingly bad
  21. Great article about a team always just missing out and how we've built a great core and game style https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-10-21/melbourne-demons-aflw-premiership-window-wide-open/101555732
  22. I thought that was a real breakout game by Mackin tonight. Goldy is one of my favourite players for pace and taking the game on but Mackin was just at another level for breaking the lines. The game isn't as skillful as the blokes but I've really loved watching our progress over the last few years. We're as tough as nails and just going in hard and running for each other. Some fantastic passages of play tonight. Really fun to watch us strangle a good team and break the lines once we settled down after the first. It's great we've got the week off now to rest and reset. There's a few niggling injuries in the team by the looks and that week off will really help. We should have a fitter faster team to have a crack at the flag this year.
  23. Aggression attack attitude and..... He can take a bloody mark and kick straight. He should go alright in the seniors this year. From what I've seen, I reckon he's ready
  24. I do love going out to see a band and then hunkering down at midnight to watch a delayed match. Sounds like a great night
  25. We're in the northern Rivers NSW. We'll be there
