  1. Yeah nah, JVR is pretty good at ground level. He leads well, recovers quickly from marking contests, lots of second efforts and tackling efforts. He's better at ground level than both Fritta and BB (or Sache for that matter).
  2. I think their form can be reflected a lot in just the pure forward lineup instability and insanity of our forward entries this season. I hope JVR, BB, Koz and Chandler (with Fritta missing at the moment) are just put in the same side sooner than later and given 4 continuous weeks of decent delivery to get into a solid goal kicking, match winning groove together.
  3. If he really got off the leash, I'd wonder how Koz would go on Cameron?
  4. Melbourne Forwards Coach - Stuart Dew? He might go alright
  5. Our game against the Pies was pretty damm good. Just need to find that intensity more consistently
  6. If we leave him out this week, he'll be sitting around for the VFL bye. So, then another week in the VFL after that? It doesn't give him time to settle in with BB before the finals in my opinion. I think we've got to get him back in as another tall and leave Petty in his best role in defence. JVR had a pretty quiet game last week. I wonder if he's dropped his head a bit after getting dropped? Sache kicked 4 but he doesn't physically compete like JVR
  7. I would expect it's because running it down a wing with 50 handballs allows the opposition to flood into our forward 50 and clog it up so it rebounds out or we try and kick snaps in a congested forward line. We're switching but doing it very deep and slowly (Barry white style baby uhuh). Might want to take on the corridor a bit more aggressively. Not at the game either,. 😜
  8. Aren't we all from the couch! 😁
  9. It was just a great game by JJ last week in the VFL. He worked so fng hard.
  10. Great centring kick even though we missed the mark and then a free. Followed by a short pass to BB. It looks like we're lowering our eyes so far. Limited opportunities and we're still in it.
  11. Maybe you could have swung a deal. He can go on the banner if he puts on the red and blue! He'd be handy for us at the moment.
  12. If only we were playing the Pies, no-one from the opposition would notice. Banner looks awesome WCW.
  13. Surely with Fritta out they have to bring JVR back in. It would be madness no to. Great to see Taj come in as well
  14. Any lip readers? Not good
  15. Gee we're looking wobbly. Missing out best midfielder (which we're proving we can cover) And Missing our best goal kicker (which we could in theory cover) If We change our tactics The one huge benefit we have is that St Kilda would be expecting us to play exactly the same way we have for the past 6 to 8 weeks. So, we could catch them out if we actually took the corridor on, moved it fast and lowered our eyes for short kicks to forwards leading into space. JVR, BB and Kozzie could get it done if we just changed the way we play. Who's confident we will?
  16. Yeah that footage of sparrow with his back to the kicker 60m out makes me think they know the ball will always go deep to a pack. The same with all three forwards sprinting deep into our f50. No-one turned to lead out or sideways into space. They were all leading deep towards the square / pocket. I suspect the instructions are just "go deep into our f50" and we'll lock it in and win it with contested ball "because that's our brand" It's a flawed strategy because everyone (including the opposition) knows pretty much where it's going to go. As is mentioned in numerous other threads and probably this one, good teams hit targets leading into space 30 to 40m out. The Pickett lead shown was a good example. He also delivered a fantastic pass to someone across goals in the first quarter too instead of blazing away. You rarely see that from us. Remember how frustrating it was getting with the kick it long along the wing and then our forwards leading into the pocket last year? We are pretty much back there again. I remember the pre-season threads about how we were playing more daring footy through the centre corridor and moving it into the forward line fast. We seem to have regressed a lot. If there were only 4 marks inside f50 in that last game, we are probably not even having many simple set shots that aren't hard against the boundary. It may be a contributor to why our accuracy is so bad too and why our set shot kicking is generally carp.
  17. I look at how bloody hard Jack Viney has been playing this season. Must be incredibly frustrating watching it go in and then get run back past you 15 seconds later.
  18. Absolutely spot on. Poor kicking for goal is just a symptom of the absolute chaos in our forward line right now. You could see the difference at Casey once the three forwards got to compete one on one. A huge difference when the forward line does not have 20 players in it. Petty forward is not the answer if we just keep kicking it on their heads to big packs. We're not going to kick 10 goals each game through miraculous snaps in a congested forward line. Every team is on to our predictable methods. As you say, it's oranisational. Structure, process. It can not just be blamed on poor kicking at goal.
  19. Just watched Casey's massive win. James Jordan just demanded to be selected. He must have about 40 possessions and delivered ball cleanly into our attacking 50. Ran very hard all day to find space. JVR was the best of our forwards. The other tall forwards did well but JVR imposes himself up the field with leads and ground ball contests. Can't understand why he was dropped considering the conditions in Alice Yestyerday. Taj Woewodin has been criticised for poor foot skills early in the year but he was pretty damaging yesterday too. Those 3 have to come in. Melksham, Harmes and Fritta the outs. It was great to see an open forward line and fast moving plays yesterday (better conditions I know) It was also great to watch our defence kick out after behinds and not actually know what they were going to do! Variation in methods. Amazing! It made me wonder if a lot of our game plan at the seniors is that simplistic. i.e. When we kick it out of defence, Kick to a pack and hope a tall marks it or our mids get the contested ball. When we enter our F50, kick it to a pack and hope a tall marks it or our small forwards snap a miracle goal. Our defensive efforts and structure at both levels is really solid. We need to move the ball faster into our 50 or we are buggered this year again.
  20. It's funny, I would describe it as just incapable of winning. We have dominated so many games this year but we can't convert from all of our good efforts down back and through winning contested ball. It's becoming quite excruciating and nauseating to watch. All of those years of watching poor footy has been replaced with watching really good competitive footy with absolutely no hope of putting a team to the sword. I feel like we're driving a Ferrari but with no steering wheel, just a piece of rope attached to the front wheels like a kids go kart. We go pretty well until we have to steer it through a corner.
  21. I think that's a big part of the deplorable conversion rate. There just is no room for anyone to A. Mark it B. When it hits the ground to have the room to cleanly kick at the goals. I swear the large majority of entries have at least 10 of our players clogged in our forward line. This is not a new problem. We've been this way generally for the last two seasons. Why wait until we've thrown away another failed finals campaign to bring in another forwards coach. Do it now. If I see another highlight reel of players doing trick shots from the boundary and I'm going to get all vomitty
  22. Because Ben Brown is such an awesome wet weather ground ball forward. With 6 minutes to go and we were about 3 points up I watched Smith get taken off and Ben Brown go back on in inclement weather. I'm really not having a go at either player. I just don't understand why you would put a prawn trawler back on the ground in those conditions with the game in the balance. Why would a coach sitting on the bench make that call? Our forward line setup has looked like Auskick for the last two seasons.

  24. Not if chanel 7 and fox footy have anything to do with it.
