Free AFL Live pass for Telstra customers.
ArtificialWisdom replied to The Sailing Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have been considering getting it. It does have 3 wifi antennae vs the old which just has 1 so could result in a stronger connection than i have had in the past which is usually the problem i have. But i will stress that chromecast version aside the network is always what is under the most strain doing this so an old/weak network connection will always going to stuggle. We can offer our experiences based on our networks but anyone reading may have much better or much worse connections and their results may vary. (haha that last bit sounds like an american infomercial disclaimer) -

I do it as well, quality is ok depends mainly on your internets ability to maintain a strong connection. It is not HD by any means but beats watching it with a magnifying glass. There will be a delay compared to what is on the phone but the audio is cast to the tv as well so as long as you dont look at your phone while its happening it wont really matter ( oh and 1 more thing... you will want to have the phone plugged in or it will go flat been there, done that very annoying) I should also note I'm using the first chromecast i would assume the 2nd gen one would be better -
I just realised and threw up in my mouth a little

you mean the one where some guy was out wearing a white shirt had a little too much to drink, vomited on it looked down and went "hey you know what we could use this for!" -

This is true but we also are the home team on queens birthday every year Im not sure it matters that much, i believe this week replacement home game anyway? If they are so keen to keep those NT games they must be more profitable than the takings from this game anyway -
I believe that is the smart replay not the full replay available through the live pass

Exactly, but when it all comes down to it Channel 7 couldn't give a rats ass about what the supporters want all they care about is making more money. And that is there job so fair enough i dont have a problem with a broadcaster who's main purpose is to make money prioritising that. It's the AFL's responsibility (who rely on fans for success) to look out for their fans and right now they dont do a very good job when it comes to broadcast/streaming rights. They say they have negotiations but clearly the AFL does nothing but sit and listen to Channels 7, 9 and 10 all say they want to broadcast and regardless of their plans the AFL sits there with glazed over eyes signing "Money money money" in their heads. ... I feel i went on a bit of an unintentional rant just there but the point is don't blame channel 7, blame the AFL they should never have given broadcasters so much power

TBH it is worth the money for someone like me who will watch other games from other teams. And what you can do is watch on multiple devices at once so if you go in on it with a few friends you can cut the price down a bit and both be looged in at different houses watching at once. But if you just get it to watch the 4 or 5 melbourne games you cant make it to... then probably not worth it.

Full replay is also 12 hours delay (which is horse s#!t because there is no reason why it cant be up 5 min after the game finished... the NBA does it with their replays and they even have multiple commentary selections!) And the only navigation in full replay is selecting which quarter due to the crappy silverlight video player they insist on using you cant skip to any part of the video without loading the whole thing first. Long story short for a $90 a year service is absolute crap (or $180 if you dont take the time to read the T&C) but given I cant get foxtel thats the best we have
-
I dont know about anyone else but I thought it was the first time in years where we looked fitter in the last quarter than the opposition. Even when we won those few last year I felt we looked tired and limped across the line but Saturday was different. Adrenaline from kicking 4 quick goals to start the quarter would have helped with that but still.

Im not saying my reasoning is how it should be but thats what it seems like when I watch them ignore leads. I think "I dont want to be the one who turns it over" is what goes though most of our players minds. The giants game looked better as did the NAB but in the last few years there have been countless ignored leads based on confidence in themself or their teammate.
-
I think its more the lack of confidence means it needs to be an outstanding lead. Say for example Hogan has grabed 6 marks in the first half and is leading up with someone hot on his tail you will kick it to him cos he has confidence and you're confident he can take it even with the pressure but if he has dropped 5 marks then suddenly you might hesitate.
-
Sorry i should have been clearer i also don't doubt his running speed but its his thinking speed, you can see each thought in his head slowly tick over where as you look at a viney who just gets and goes theres no delay. And I agree he shouldnt be dropped but he needs to improve or he might vulnerable in 8-10 weeks time if he is still struggling. Not so much to be "dropped" more just to be overtaken in value by others

I think that has been our biggest problem with ball movement for a long time. No confidence in our own players in 1 on 1 contests. I felt that on the weekend it was the complete reverse which was great for our inside 50 count but seemed we were so over confident that Hogan or Watts whoever could win when out of position we wasted alot of those entries. Need to find a balance

Yeah funny isnt it, stats i always feel are the more reliable over time but it does seem easy to throw them out when they dont suit the point we want to make. Tyson unfortunatly has made a name as a shocking kick and if he does that 1 or 2 horrible kicks a game we will remember that over the 5 hardball gets in the middle of the ground none of us can see. Watts is the same, amazing how he can manage to do 5 things in a row that are really good then make one misstake and suddenly he is worst on ground. (not this week but in the past) Side note: Viney's disposal is not elite either but he finds a way to keep his kick nearish the target which is all tyson needs to do to shake off this criticism
-
Since he is such a hot topic at the minute, here is my 2 cents about Tyson: He has 2 major problems, he is slow and he is a terrible kick. Now the latter is the lesser of the problems, for a midfielder at least, we can probably deal with 60% efficiency by foot if he can keep his hands up around 80-85%. Judd and Swan are both brownlow medal proof that you dont have to be a glorious kick to be a star midfielder as long as you can get your hands on the footy and give it to someone who is. we'll all love tyson forever if he gets the ball in and under and hands it out to le like of salem running past who has the skill to hit someone lace out. The bigger problem I see is he is slow moving the ball on, he gets caught holding the ball more than any other player in the competition, and this is harder to fix. People calling for him to be dropped but I feel he will dominate in the VFL simply due to the extra time he has. IMO we have to persist with him at AFL level and he has to get better at moving the ball on quicker. Going down a level and playing exactly the same might help his confidence but wont change the fact he will continue to get caught at the top level. I'm open to sugestions as to how the VFL could improve this skill but right now i just cant see it helping
-
I think he shows alot just cant keep it up for a whole game yet and that will come, i have alot of confidence in him. I dont see him playing every week but he is going to be in selection frame every week simply based on potential
-
You can't base it on 1 game, Vandenberg consistently misses easy opportunities he did a number of times last year especially on the run 30 to 40 out, hell he missed a sitter out on the full earlier in he 4th. But like I said I would much rather see him get better but for now I'd rather his scrappy kicks out if the middle then in front of goal.
-
I agree with the premise of consistent forwards but you can't build a forward line around two terrible kicks, I love both frost and vanders intent by if they don't start becoming scoreboard threats Pederson will need to be the man for a couple more years Vanders in the middle is a much better prospect imo. However with the talent we have comming through the middle I do wonder if he is a means to an end more than the end itself. I hope I'm wrong cos he has a fantastic contested mark but I feel he is gonna be a best 25/26 type in a couple of years
