The word I got on Hughes is that as he was mature aged, the AFL gave us permission to re-rookie him at the end of the first year ONLY if he hadn't played a game. If we played him, we would have had to promote him or let him go. Not giving him a cheap game at the end of the year let us keep him for an extra year for free. (and yes, I'm aware it's not really "inside" info )

What a rubbish award. Still don't even know what it's judged on. More meaningless than the Brownlow.

It's harder to get a handball from the bottom of the pack than a kick you get handed to you because you stood next to a player who marked the ball.

11-12. I think we're a better team than we showed for much of the year (largely due to injuries and the system). We were coming along leaps and bounds in the first 9 rounds and with further improvement from Davey and Sylvia, with the return of Grimes and Garland, with Jurrah getting a pre season I can see us winning 7-8 matches next year. Funnily enough, that would've gone close to finals this year.

Hardly a surprise, or a joke, unfortunately.
