  1. I wonder if Plowman could end up playing midfield, &/or defence, or even R/R like a goodes.
  2. sorry mandee, but your starting to sound like an upset former president in the papers recently... its this negativeness that stops the club from searching & scutinising every corner & crevice, in its quest to find reason for our cultural demise of over 50 yrs, & counting... to dismiss anything is pure closed-mindedness, & defensive in the extreme. the answers lye all about the place, including within the support base as well.
  3. you mean he's a wicketkeeper, not a Dennis Lillee ? the club nature is that, like a wicketkeeper... we have to change this direction & outcomes; if we are to become winners... this is the 'checker spirit'. ...... percy page imported it > checker hughes > norm smith > ron barassi > alan jeans had the spirit, kevin sheedy had the spirit, leigh matthews had the spirit, alastair clarkson has the spirit, the northern stand nature is that of the fuscia
  4. your sounding like giving up lama its not about giving up on transition,,, its about learning whats causing the issues which in turn caused that '186' & other heavy losses. going back to the start, = the soft cushy ways of entitlement that breeds happily around our club, its a really happy & lazy, easygoing, casual way around football, where losing doesn't matter so much, its a part of the wallpaper. Its money and fun after the game, that's the bees knees. ....the antidote to this is what was killed off, when 'they' removed Smithy, & Barass had left... so we returned to Pre checker ways of football. we all have to shift this club back into a really fired up fierce mentality of on-field football. you can see this current soft pathetic way that has had our clubs mentality grasped in it's hand, by the proverbial hangers: is eating into Jones's soul, with his frustration, its pulling even him down, as we watch on...
  5. this is the culture of the leaders I've been banging on about for the last 5 years. the leaders learn't it from their peers when they started, its a hand me down culture of entitlement the players learn, & from us as well... the ones they rub shoulders with... ........... this kills off any warrior spirit; & makes for spoilt soft play. > they do not like getting their hands dirty or sore. we have to remove the old infected ones firstly, then the more recent ones, who have the bug as well.. changing a culture is also in the other areas of the club, surrounding the players... the players aren't born with the infection & do not arrive with it mostly,,, it's most caught & incubated within our walls. getting rid of it is very very difficult. & the club must move its base away from the 'G'. to be able to sustain the cleanliness.
  6. no not now, he is finally showing his willing.... that's the point from where we can work with him, & his desire to be the best he can will take him forward, with good strong coaching.
  7. especially at the moment when rucks are expected to run all game, & get buffeted. the late thinking is to rest them, at 24yrs 1mth, & a late developer who is 99Kgs & 200cms, who can run like the wind, he must be kept for further development; especially since we are only Now getting our teaching assistant coach roles filled by talented people. . & promote your No 2, to spell them. if one gets injures no depth is poor management.

he didn't go anywhere. he was just older than the new broom brigade, & of course there was harris. sometimes the shine & sparkle of the new thing wears off quickly.

we've not approached anywhere near our potential, this tour until now, & appeared very distracted right from the first test.... once off balance, with a bad start & really swinging ball darting about, the belief was shot early.

you really can't see past your nose can you. Clark is fine as tactician & onfield Captain, & as he's already in-place as Captain, the stage was set for Smith, who is the natural choice to replace Clark, he (smith) would be better off watching Clark for another 12 months; 'thinking' not as a player any more, but as THE captain in waiting... So Smith can see what Clark does, & silently scutinising all the pros & cons of Clarks actions, during the 12 months. Because Smith is still a little immature to be leader, just yet. as it is, he will now be thrown to the wolves. & have ti fight & make his personal mistakes along the way.. this thinking of mine wasn't taking into account the retiring of the likes of others like Rogers & Harris straight away, as IMO we were on the cusp of a good development period of slow transition. now it will be all a bit rushed, so we are now looking at a heavier rebuild.

Siddle the beauty didn't see it, but gee, it feels good.... Lyth & Bell, next.
  13. ohh yes, & I was also a huge Ottens fan, once he started to play better down at the Cattery. I like effectiveness, talent, & no-nonsense, hard footy. theres an honesty in that type of footy that no one can escape from. you face it, or your seen to fold. no more flash & sparkle players please, for the Mfc ??? lets have the Voss's, the Keatings, the Lynch's, the Orange Roughies, the Scotts, the Blacks, the Lapins, the Pikes, the Bradshaws, & elsewhere, the Scarletts, the Moonies, the Selwoods, the Kirks, the Chapmans, the Rookes, the Lings, the Burgoynes, the Hodges, etc.. i don't want to see any more players who just run fast, or just jump on shoulders... I don't want anymore teasers like so many in the past 4 yrs here.
  14. no, not the bulldozer type I mean... a bulldozer in the ruck, who also marks. In other words, he smashes his opponents out of his way, or if he can't get to the ball in the pack, he'll bowl the whole bloody pack over, bringing ball to ground. dawes is a pansy planter, compared to Keating. & keating, in our present side, would be our strongest mark by far, in this current Dees team. this is why I was hoping for Weideman, hoping he may have some of his grand-dads old mojo. but I haven't seen any of Weidemans games. although he reads as a strong contested mark, mobile & is in that 3rd tall/ruck size range. he's written up quite well. & the pies will have him lying low as possible as well, hoping he'll fall thru to their pick?
  15. yep, Keating was a ripper, literally... would hack & smash the opposition rucks, & talls, irrespective of who they thought they were. he just didn't bother with prisoners. & he was just as effective as a key forward. he is what we should be looking for as a cameo ruck 3rd tall. heres a reminder of the sort of 'footy', he provided.... We, do not need a JWhite type of athlete.... another soft type but athletic. we need a bulldozer, who marks.

only you could be that stupid, as clark was shyte as the test leader off field,,,, & Smith was obvious to blind freddy, as the next test captain; there is no one else at present. so, the only option was Smith; who in my mind, was a bit too green just yet to be thrown in the deep end, as his first stint showed some minor issues Re plain maturity, & experience of leadership thinking. no not tactics Q30... so he would have benefited from another 12 months watching the current skipper, & overlaying his own thoughts as he watches clarkes actions. but now he won't have that opportunity. & you call that double standards... I call it captaincy transition. unless you think Watto should stand in as captain for 12 months, in which case, you could then have something of an relevant concept. however I won't try to lecture you about your reading perceptions.

there was NO double standard at all q30, you obviously didn't read what i wrote; or your too stupid to understand it? I can't tell which it is with you, as I don't know you. so I stand by the recent comments, & others I've written in the past re clarke. it seems he's been a virus in the team, especially with his leadership aspirations, & then his captaincy as well. ............. putting Clarke, & that Mickey Arthur together was just a masterstroke of pure genius from the acb. no understanding of a countries culture & how it works.

i'm not alone it would seem Q30 Former coach John Buchanan joins old teammates in savage sledge on ‘divisive’ Michael Clarke captaincy August 11, 2015 12:00am FORMER Australian cricket coach John Buchanan believes the famous baggy green culture was eroded in the Michael Clarke captaincy era. Buchanan praised Clarke’s contribution to the game but agreed with Matthew Hayden and Andrew Symonds, that the cricketer polarised the dressingroom. Australian legend Hayden yesterday made the stunning revelation that Clarke once threatened to hand back his baggy green cap if he was forced to field at bat-pad. Buchanan coached Clarke at the start of his international career but Clarke did not become Test captain until four years after Buchanan quit. Buchanan feels the cherished baggy green culture that spanned back to Australia’s first Test match in 1877 was diminished under Clarke. “If he finished games early, Michael would often leave early. I can remember guys like Hayden and Langer sitting him down in a corner and trying to get him to understand what we were trying to achieve. There were times when I felt Michael did not understand or did not want to understand. “If Michael reads this I am sure he will say he did cherish the culture but if you asked him to define it, his definition would not be the same as the likes of Adam Gilchrist, Ponting or myself.’’ Hayden gave an incredible insight into how Clarke could be a divisive figure, telling how Simon Katich was injured in a Sydney Test and Clarke had not wanted to field at bat-pad. “We needed someone and usually it goes to the youngest in the side,’’ Hayden told Brisbane’s Triple M Radio “He (Clarke) said – ‘If I have to wear that, I will hand my baggy green back.’’ Shane Warne (right) went all out to defend Michael Clarke (left) © Getty Images “Players like Steve Waugh, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting and others really tried to make the baggy green culture something special, but I could sense it was under threat and under Michael’s captaincy I can sense it has disappeared a bit, and that disappointed me,’’ Buchanan said. “It was almost as if Clarke was destined to be captain and he never was a silent partner – he had strong opinions and the good thing was that meant if he saw something he did not agree with he would certainly speak up about it. “If he finished games early, Michael would often leave early. I can remember guys like Hayden and Langer sitting him down in a corner and trying to get him to understand what we were trying to achieve. There were times when I felt Michael did not understand or did not want to understand. “If Michael reads this I am sure he will say he did cherish the culture, but if you asked him to define it, his definition would not be the same as the likes of Adam Gilchrist, Ponting or myself.’’ Hayden gave an incredible insight into how Clarke could be a divisive figure, telling how Simon Katich was injured in a Sydney Test, and Clarke had not wanted to field at bat-pad. “We needed someone, and usually it goes to the youngest in the side,’’ Hayden told Brisbane’s Triple M Radio “He (Clarke) said – ‘If I have to wear that, I will hand my baggy green back.’’ ??????????????????? Q30 ???
  19. chaser, can you think of any who play like Clark Keating did. a small but powerful follower, who is right at home drifting deep forward, or coming in to smash packs & bodies, or ruck as well when the Lions had Lynch, Bradshaw & Brown up forward, they had the most potent forwardline ever, IMO. Clark Keating would ruck in the finals crashing bodies & was extremely successful around the ground or dropping into deep forward. he is the type i reckon, is the epitome of your 2nd ruck, that we need. doesn't have to be so quick but needs to run & run & have the footy IQ, & a great mark, with a dash of mean in his blood. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_AFL_Grand_Final#Teams
  20. I don't think Grimes'y is on the short straw list yet, I think there is probably about at least half a bakers dozen, before his neck is placed down. we have to look at where our players are taking us to, where they/we will be in 3 Yrs time. we need more speed all over, & more agility, run & take it on off the half backline, Salem isn't enough by himself. and we need depth to cover our more deficient areas on the list.
  21. you'd think Goodwin will be up to his armpits with the recruiting dept' right now.
  22. I think he's been gone for 12 months now. but to where, hmmn.

FTR, I have never said Warnie was a captain of Australia. you obviously cannot read when over emotional. Re Warnie: I was saying that IMO he has shown that the decision for him to not captain Australia, was looking like the right decision, in hindsight. I wanted him to captain Australia, some years back. ignore list, oh no, please not that, but how will I sleep at night, just knowing that 'the'querty30' isn't listening anymore
  24. dee-luded replied to Whispering_Jack's post in a topic in Other Sports
yes, that's right, because I didn't want Smith to be thrown to the wolves; as I thought in Australia, that Smith showed a little bit of immaturity. obviously you can't bring in another skipper in-between Clark & Smith. so I had hoped that Clark would continue for 6 - 12 months, whilst Smith learned more, of how to captain... since had a taste of it, he would naturally be thinking more seriously abut it, & studying other test captains. Clark was a great batsmen, fielder, & tactician, so was Warnie, a great tactician, bowler, & slipper. but Clark in my mind is not a great leader, & his time has seen a lot of turmoil & poor results against the stronger test nations. I don't think he took us forward as leader, & I think we would have done better, & be in better shape, if another was chosen.
