The Need for Outside Midfielders
Nah, don't need em. Ask Goody. I arksed him. He only plays inside mids on the wings like Tyson and Harmes and it's the same with half forwards. ANB and Petracca. Ball use, composure and speed is overrated. He thinks it, not me.

Goodwin Presser (28/6)
Pretty sure Roos said this when he first took over in 2014, which is why Daniel Cross was brought over. But cool to know Goodwin is saying that it's still not ingrained in our players 4 years later... On a serious note, that kind of a response is an absolute cop out. How obvious is it to see that if you play a super aggressive zone as a defensive unit, you're going to need to be an extremely skilled side through the midfield and forward line? We are the third easiest team to score against once the ball is inside 50. We just let St Kilda of 2018 kick a score of 119 against us. 119. Do something Goodwin.

THE 2018 AFL NATIONAL DRAFT
Trading up is naturally the preferred scenario in any draft, if feasible. And drafts are ALWAYS important. Rather than suggest ludicrous sideways trades of young potential stars in Hogan and Petracca like the posts above have entertained, I'd rather look at who would be considered 'excess' of what we already have and who could net us value. The most obvious of which to me would be Tyson, Frost, Bugg, Stretch, (romanticism aside) and Kent. List upgrades are always important and from a list needs point of view, we're in clear need of players who will bring a set of skills that we need. Adding youth is obviously always paramount for the sustained success of a club as well. Tyson (as an example) packaged with pick 31 could net us something of great value if a Carlton, Essendon or Gold Coast were to bite. Goodwin concerns me with his stubbornness. His unwaveringly commitment in playing certain players out of position completely stifles our ability to hit the scoreboard against strong opposition sides who apply pressure. Whether that's players inside mids like ANB or Tyson as half-forwards or on the wings. Hogan as a permanent key forward. Vince and Lewis in the same backline. Etc. I can see our potential, but to me our team balance is still a way off. We have this mantra of playing 'tough' Melbourne footy and have recruited players who can play that way. But clearly in doing so we've neglected a skill and composure component and have lost run with Hunt's injury and our abundance of inside type players who play in other areas of the ground doesn't help our cause.

Petracca in a rut?
Watts or Sylvia? Trac embraces the limelight and wants to be the best. He has a killer instinct, he just needs to be shown the way. It will happen, he is a much different make up to the other two ^

Petracca in a rut?
Whilst disappointed in his current form, I'm not too worried about his future. Trac only needs one enormous summer and talking to from Goody and Jones. He needs to become more professional in his prep pre season and he needs to listen more. It'll click and he's a little more immature than the rest of our core but it's only a matter of time. He has all the right ingredients.

Oscar vs The Gorillas
Was average last night. Dixon didn't get a look in due to our immense pressure around the ball and the fact the game was played mainly in our forward half. I don't buy that he beat Dixon at all. His mistakes were extremely costly on the other hand and whilst he made a few standard spoils and one contested intercept mark, I thought he was quite poor generally.

New CEO - Gary Pert
Incredible resume, huge get.

Is Brayshaw more rounded than the Trac?
Both Petracca and Brayshaw have had to face some adversity early on which has most obviously had an impact on their development as players. I don't really care for comparing them at this stage. Gus had his breakout couple of games for us this year and Trac has shown glimpses of what he's capable of. As long as we continue to nurture and educate these boys, they will both be big time contributors for the MFC. Trac missed all of his first year and Gus pretty much missed all of last year. It put them both back. The exciting thing in my eyes is that they're both so untapped along with some other players and we're still sitting 5th at the halfway point. As I've said a number of times, greater consistency in performance will come once these guys reach 80-100 games. And from then on it'll be a hell of a watch if we can keep our core together.

Dom Tyson
- Dom Tyson
Playing him at half back would be worse than playing him wing. He simply can't play those positions due to his weaknesses. Unfortunately for him, they're not just football related. His physical attributes are also very underwhelming and add to his vanilla profile. He isn't quick, in fact he's slow. He lacks agility, power and he's not tall. The reasons he's not playing in our 22 is thus: A) He is behind all our inside mids in regards to impact and effectiveness at the coal face. B) He is extremely limited as a player which means he cannot be played in any other position. Fine for depth, but if we remain injury free I think a team like Carlton or St Kild could offer overs for him, (like we did early days for immediate results). And that would be a big win for us given Jason's strike rate from round 1-3 of the draft.- Dom Tyson
Maybe, maybe not. A second round pick and I'd do it in a heartbeat. Tyson hasn't developed any other area of his game and these days if you're not dominating at the coalface, you have to be able to offer the team something else. And given his deficiencies as a player, he can't offer us that.- Dom Tyson
It's genuinely unbelievable that I'm still hearing posters say he's best 22 when he's running around at Casey and we have no injuries. He was pushed out of the square when we got better quality into our club. And he was pushed off a wing when we saw how little he was giving the team in that role and Goody realised how much better we worked with some others playing there. He is extremely limited as a player and the Dom Tyson fan club need to realise that the MFC's fortunes are more important than Dom's. Nice guy, average player. Time to get over it and enjoy the fact that the team is playing great footy.- Andrew Gaff
Can confirm that we wouldn't be interested in 'any' player. And no, I didn't ask Mahoney.- Angus Brayshaw
Should always be playing in the guts with rests either on the pine or at half-forward. He is ball player. No more experimenting thanks Simon. Gussy looks to be gaining more and more confidence with each game, can't wait to watch him develop further.- The Incredible Hulk - Jesse Hogan
- Dom Tyson
What on earth does that even mean? Who is worse at playing wing for us? Unfortunately Goodwin is continuing with the experiment due to his stubbornness. As soon as we play a half decent side with speed on the wings, you'll see why playing Dom there is such a ridiculous thing.- Dom Tyson
I think you’re misunderstanding my general view. His sole position should be inside mid, but I wouldn’t have him ahead of any of our current players rolling through there. Right now I’d have him playing inside mid at Casey for depth. My confusion and frustration comes from the stubbornness that Goodwin displays by playing him in the senior team on a wing. A position in which you need to play runners/ball users. Not extractor/ball winners who are slow and turn the ball over.- Dom Tyson
He had a stellar year in his first year for us but he played solely as an inside mid under Roos which is his jam. The way Goodwin uses him now has me bewildered. It'd be like playing Matt Crouch or Tom Mitchell on a wing. It makes no sense whatsoever.- Dom Tyson
Bump. Only a matter of time before Goodwin makes the change. It's quite frustrating really. It allows for the Tyson defenders to point at the fact that he continues to play, even though in my eyes and the eyes of many others, he is utterly insignificant playing on the wing with his skill-set. However, like Garland in the past and others over the journey, there's only so much a coach can handle when a player isn't offering enough consistently. Would love someone to tell me how well he played last night? Had a real pearler of a game didn't he?- Is Brayshaw more rounded than the Trac?
Weird thread. Both differing in skill-sets and neither of them are well rounded yet. Petracca is clearly more dynamic. But when they’ve hit 100 games together with Oliver, and Viney is close to 150 our midfield is going to be pretty crazy. That’s all I care about.- Dom Tyson
Lol, nice one Wrecker. He's got to be one of the most ineffective "prolific" ball winners within the AFL. Numbers mean so little when you are doing so much wrong when you dispose of it. I still can't understand why some posters don't understand that concept when quoting a player on his possession count. So he disposed of it at 78% efficiency? I have a few questions. Taking aways handballs firstly. Of the targets he hit by foot, how many were under 20 metres to a free player? And how many were under pressure? How many of his 30 + metre kicks hit their target? Or how many were kicked to the advantage of his team mate? Or how many were kicked directly to the opposition? How many of his inside 50's were of value?- Dom Tyson
Lols.- Dom Tyson
It's simply because he refuses to use his right side. Whether that be handball or kick. I mean, clearly he doesn't possess a 'right' side, but on so many occasions he could make a handball on his right but decides to keep trying to get in a better position with his left, by which time he is caught. Do not rate him one iota right now.- Dom Tyson
It’s unbelievable. And what’s more unbelievable is that there are posters who believe he seems to have ‘Pendlebury-like’ time with ball in hand. He gets caught in that scenario so often. The ball either bobbles out to the opposition or he is pinged holding the ball. The fact he is so one-sided only makes matters worse as he never wants to dispose of the ball with his right foot or right hand in those situations.- Dom Tyson
I still thinking we're missing a couple of elite runners who can use the ball, but with the cattle we've got I'd like this to be our starting, fully fit side : B Jetta O Mac Lewis HB Hibberd Lever Hunt C Harmes Viney Salem HF Petracca Hogan Spargo FF Garlett T-Mac/Weed Fritsch Foll Gawn Oliver Jones Int Brayshaw Vince Melksham Hannan - Dom Tyson
