  1. No, obviously not. He is a young and developing player. However, it's the only line we have that lacks depth, quality and experience. And it's remained that way since Dunn left. Frost, Keilty and Petty are not depth yet as we saw with Petty. Two of them are untried and Frost is a mistake ridden athlete who is the furthest thing from the word 'consistency' one could think of. The fact we don't have a mature body with either experience at AFL level or the level under is a serious oversight by Goodwin and the recruiting team. You look at Weideman VS Oscar McDonald and compare the way in which they've been handled over their careers. One has been made to play out of necessity rather than form. The other one is in his third year and has been dropped again after one poor game due to depth and talent. Weideman was a top end pick. Oscar a pick in the 50's. It doesn't make sense to me. It should be our priority over the off season along with diversifying our midfield mix. You get rid of Frost, Tyson and Bugg over the off season and bring in May, Gaff and a half forward who is quick, skilled and pressures and watch our team transform.
  2. Hindsight? I've been saying it every time he plays an insignificant game so nah. Last week he was wrongly given another week. Yeh, coaches get things wrong. It's okay to admit that.
  3. Tyson @Satyriconhome I guess those 17 others were super lucky hey? M8. No idea.
  4. Give Frost a chance? He's been given a chance in almost every position possible on the football field. Unfortunately for him, (and fortunately for us watching) his weaknesses won't allow him to be a consistent AFL player.
  5. It's funny this has been identified, even though he was struggling earlier in the year. It still points to a gaping hole and weakness that is our key position stocks. Had we not landed Lever, I wonder where we'd be sitting now. Why have we chosen against bringing in a mature aged key defender since Dunn left? It is truly baffling that posters think 'we're fine' without one. It's astounding. Many stats hint to this area of weakness. Give me a key defender that will give aggression at the contest and make a genuine impact whenever the ball is in their area. The rest should be developing at VFL. If we don't have a crack at May I'll be livid. It's fine to have faith in young players, (Oscar). But why are we just assuming that these guys are going to improve in a linear way every year? Circumstances always change. Whether it's injury, form or anything else. The club needs to do something about this. I want a mature aged defender. I want reliability. And I want those younger guys to develop at VFL level like the rest of our younger mids and forwards, (Weideman, Brayshaw) have done because of depth in those lines. There's zero accountability from the club on this. It's the same with our ruck stocks. One injury to Max and watch what happens.
  6. "Oscar is fine and he isn't even close to be being a problem for the club at the moment". That's dismissive m8. I'm not sure why it doesn't compute for some, but I've made it fairly clear that it's not alllll Oscar's fault. I've highlighted one problem area, which is real. And which imo has some significant flow-on effects that supporters clearly can't see. I'm going to go to the effort to learn how to edit some clips of what I'm talking about and post them. Obviously there are a handful of problems at our club. The absence of an experienced and consistent key defender is a big issue.
  7. There a few problem areas. Our lack of key position experience and size is one. Dismissing such a thing is ridiculous.
  8. Agree with Sfebey. Oscar after the weekend is back to performing the way he was last year. Playing without physicality, urgency or smarts. It's just limbs everywhere at present and as much as our defensive system as a whole isn't working, you simply need to have strong defensive pillars at all times. Now before fanboys of his come at me like a buzzard, believing I'm 'blaming' him for our loss, just hold up. Look around the league. The best defensive units have super strong bodied key position defenders that are the glue for the rest of their defensive unit. Our keys at the moment without lever look again like school boys playing against men. It reminds me of when we were made to play Scully, Trengove, Morton etc all at once. It's clear as day we made an error by not bringing in a mature-aged key after giving Dunn the flick. We've loaded up with young keys and that's fine. But why not have a crack on Steven May if he's exploring his options? He is a top 5 key defender. Why do we need to wait? Who knows whether Oscar will actually come through. There's no reason why he can't continue to develop at Casey. Some of his efforts on the weekend were that of an 18 year old, underdeveloped and physically intimidated tall.
  9. My OCD meter is through the roof right now.
  10. I'm convinced one of two things need to change. Either Goody needs to change the way we defend as a zone, or he needs to find players who can execute that particular set up and play it well. Why am seeing Jetta on Membrey at times? Oscar McDonald on Gresham? Why? How does this happen? The same [censored] has been happening since he took over. It's a disgrace. I don't think posters fully understand how bad the saints are and have been this year. We just allowed them to kick a score of 119! Ha! Incredible.
  11. Nah, don't need em. Ask Goody. I arksed him. He only plays inside mids on the wings like Tyson and Harmes and it's the same with half forwards. ANB and Petracca. Ball use, composure and speed is overrated. He thinks it, not me.
  12. Tyson is pretty sweet on the wing though. Really gives us something we don't have on the wide expanses of the G. And Viney as a tagger is an ingenious move by Goody. Why wouldn't we take our best ball winner away from doing what he does best? Zone defence also. Goody is on a winner here. Saints just kicked a score of 119. Awesome viewing for free flowing footy fans. I for one love seeing opposition goals. And the instruction for our mids to onnnnllly kick to a contest where at LEAST three forwards including two keys are spoiling each other worked wonders today. They nailed it. I can only hope Bugg and Frost come in next week and both play back flank to really give Freo the best chance of kicking a hundred point plus score. Onwards and upwards Dees.
  13. Pretty sure Roos said this when he first took over in 2014, which is why Daniel Cross was brought over. But cool to know Goodwin is saying that it's still not ingrained in our players 4 years later... On a serious note, that kind of a response is an absolute cop out. How obvious is it to see that if you play a super aggressive zone as a defensive unit, you're going to need to be an extremely skilled side through the midfield and forward line? We are the third easiest team to score against once the ball is inside 50. We just let St Kilda of 2018 kick a score of 119 against us. 119. Do something Goodwin.
  14. I was always going to wait until today's result to respond to your post. The most humorous part of all of this is your complete lack of understanding of the fact that even AFL coaches get things wrong at times. Whether it's team selections, strategy, game-plan or anything else. For the last decade or so you have continued to back whoever was in charge at our club, no matter the result. And you have been made to look silly so many times because of your lack of football knowledge and blind faith in the club. The only thing that I am embarrassed about re Tyson playing this week is the fact that he again had no impact on the game and Goodwin played him on the wing AGAIN.
  15. Yeh look, with all due respect, you're his brother. So it's natural that you're going to say that. Petty had some decent moments but also looked overawed at times today. It doesn't help when Goodwin plays such a ludicrous defensive setup that plays to no individual's advantage. We constantly have mis-matches with opponents and with O-Mac being our only 'experienced' key back, it's becoming really problematic given his drop-off in form. He is back to what he was last year. Petty ain't the problem. And Dec coming in wouldn't magically change things. It's up to Goodwin now and whether or not he is ballsy enough to change some of what he 'thinks' is 'the way forward'. We've had the same [censored] issues for two years in regards to opposition scoring once inside 50. It's disgusting.
  16. "Tyson should play because you don't drop a player after one game". Posters constantly surprise me with their creative outlook. Tyson was insignificant against Port. And he most certainly didn't do his chances of playing this this game any good given the form of others at VFL level. Hopefully we bring in someone who will actually help us improve in the areas we lack. Tyson doesn't do that.
  17. It's a selective statistic because it points to a major weakness in our defensive unit and the individuals that play there. We may be ranked 9th for scores against, but that has nothing to do with the subject at hand. That's simply a reflection of the teams we've played against and how dominant our midfield has been in those games. Of course if opposition sides are gaining quick entries inside 50 with not a lot of pressure put on the kicker, it's much harder for our defenders to do their job. So I'm sure that contributes. But. Without even needing to look at stats, there are many many supporters who know the ease at which opposition sides seem to score with a loose ball inside 50. Aside from Jetta and Hibberd when he is in form, our scrapping ability in defensive situations has to be up there with the worst in the comp over the last two years. Whether it's multiple defenders going up to spoil, players leaving their opponents to try and impact a contest which inevitably doesn't happen, Vince or Lewis crumbling under physical contact and failing to mark their opponent or Oscar's lack of physical strength and inability to really impose himself at this stage yet, it's all problematic. The amount of times I've seen a bobble ball in dispute on the ground in our defensive 50 and can already predict an opposition score due to a less than satisfactory effort from repeat offenders in our backline is astonishing. We make the relatively easy look very very hard back there at times. We seem to have players who have an inconceivable disparity between their best and worst efforts. Very few can actually halve a contest consistently. Which is what makes Jetta so amazing as a defender. He wins contests that would on most occasions be halved by most good defenders and it'd be applauded. He is incredible. And he very rarely loses them. Having both Lewis and Vince play in a backline as one on one players against strong oppo is frightening imo. Both of them are wildly inconsistent in this aspect and make us extremely vulnerable to scoreboard pressure. Here's the thing. Everyone in the AFL world knows our game plan. Goodwin is hell bent on playing one way which is a forward half, high pressure, hard contested style of football that creates scores with repeat entries from immense pressure both in our forward line and through the midfield. If these elements and pillars of our game are even a little bit down, we're vulnerable immediately due to our inability to play any other way. Weve drafted players for the contest, not for run or use by foot or hand and not for composure. That's fine, but we need to tinker. I strongly believe that as of next year, we need to be playing two key backs with Lever as the third tall intercept specialist. I think we need to play a similar style setup to West Coast in our defensive 50 and to what Adelaide had when Lever was there. From the sounds and looks of it, Petty has more tricks than Oscar and I'm really hopeful that as of next year, we'll see him in the side permanently. Oscar imo will be like Kyle Hartigan for Adelaide. A stopper who doesn't need to do much other than stand his man and compete hard. Petty will be a step-up from Oscar given his pedegree as a defender at state level and his standout attributes which are intercept spoiling and play reading. But he needs to put on weight quickly. A backline next year that consists of an extra tall in the place of Vince would be ideal. B: Jetta O-Mac Petty HB: Hibberd Lever Hunt A taller defensive set-up is much more conducive to the type of game we play. If you play a high press as a defensive unit, it's paramount to have talls who specialise in intercept play. Petty and Lever both have that ability in spades and Oscar can hopefully become the anchor in that situation. Release Hibberd to a flank and bring Hunt back and we've got run. Jetta will be the rock and imo we look far more balanced and better equipped for opposition attack out of our forward line. I hope we see Petty this week for his first run. I'm not sorry about the long-winded post either.
  18. Haha cute. I guess the trade period and free agency are pointless then hey Sat-man?
  19. Trading up is naturally the preferred scenario in any draft, if feasible. And drafts are ALWAYS important. Rather than suggest ludicrous sideways trades of young potential stars in Hogan and Petracca like the posts above have entertained, I'd rather look at who would be considered 'excess' of what we already have and who could net us value. The most obvious of which to me would be Tyson, Frost, Bugg, Stretch, (romanticism aside) and Kent. List upgrades are always important and from a list needs point of view, we're in clear need of players who will bring a set of skills that we need. Adding youth is obviously always paramount for the sustained success of a club as well. Tyson (as an example) packaged with pick 31 could net us something of great value if a Carlton, Essendon or Gold Coast were to bite. Goodwin concerns me with his stubbornness. His unwaveringly commitment in playing certain players out of position completely stifles our ability to hit the scoreboard against strong opposition sides who apply pressure. Whether that's players inside mids like ANB or Tyson as half-forwards or on the wings. Hogan as a permanent key forward. Vince and Lewis in the same backline. Etc. I can see our potential, but to me our team balance is still a way off. We have this mantra of playing 'tough' Melbourne footy and have recruited players who can play that way. But clearly in doing so we've neglected a skill and composure component and have lost run with Hunt's injury and our abundance of inside type players who play in other areas of the ground doesn't help our cause.
  20. Watts or Sylvia? Trac embraces the limelight and wants to be the best. He has a killer instinct, he just needs to be shown the way. It will happen, he is a much different make up to the other two ^
  21. Well I'm not the one who stated that he didn't play his role. Just that he was insignificant in the game. You stated he played his role, if he is omitted, you will be wrong.
  22. Right, so if he comes out this week, will you finally admit you have nfi?
