Anybody calling for Spargo to be dropped needs to look at the footage of the last qtr - just after his last (missed) shot for goal with about 7 mins to go, he puts Whitfield on his arse from the resultant kickin. He's got a bit of mongrel in him, as well as pace and makes good decisions (that handball assist to Jones for a goal late in the game was gold). He gut runs.....well, does everything Jeffy isn't doing really. Another Jason Taylor success story. Stays for mine.

On the train on the way home from the game last night, I was wondering if the AFL would be happy that their skewed/rigged fixture for 2018 fell over whereby they tried to keep the dees out of the 8 by having us play (and lose to) 3 of the 4 "top 4" teams in the last three rounds. Suck eggs Gil. The only thing they didn't do was have these games with 6 day breaks as well. But sneakily, most of our opposition across the year had at least an extra days rest (incl. all 3 opponents in the last three rounds).

Completely unrelated to 2013, and aligned with the game yesterday; I was fast drawing the conclusion that the umpires should have a can of shaving cream to set the mark (like they do in the soccer for the 10m exclusion zone on free kicks). GWS were repeatedly standing back 2-3m for set shots and then running towards the goal kicker to put them off; and (it looked to me, at least) over the mark more than once. I was getting more and more irate.

That's a bit harsh Jaded, they did have about 200 there. That's almost better than a home game for them.

I watched him during one passage of play in the third where the Giants were running the ball out of the backline. He chased from the pocket, narrowly missed a tackle on the wing, persisted and tackled on the back flank in front of the members and turned the ball over. He's putting in the hard yards, played a great game today. I especially liked the tic-taccing with TMac, giving each other goals. Selfless, scintillating football.

GWS looked like they didn’t want to play us again in the finals with some of their efforts in the 3rd qtr.

I love this board when the dees are up and about. There’s some genuine comedy too (hopefully JKH in for Hannan is in this bracket). The undercurrent of confidence is still a bit foreign to me.
