  1. Brisbane were also off a 6 day break and travel from Adelaide.
  2. (a) is not relevant because he was within 9 metres of the line. Arguable if there was immediate physical pressure, but due to the behaviour of the Geelong players the umpire judged (b) didn't apply. So, he had time and space and therefore should have disposed of the ball. I reckon it was the right call. The rule was brought in to stop all those rushed behinds Hawthorn conceded in a final - if I recall correctly. The wider problem is that that situation is not always paid.
  3. To assist the debate here is the law. A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against a Player from the Defending Team who intentionally Kicks, Handballs or forces the football over the Attacking Team’s Goal Line or Behind Line or onto one of the Attacking Team’s Goal Posts, and the Player: (a) is greater than nine metres from the Goal Line or Behind Line; (b) is not under immediate physical pressure; (c) has had time and space to dispose of the football; or (d) from a Ruck contest, hits the football over the Goal Line or Behind Line on the full. The umpire has decided that (c) applied, and not (b) as the Geelong players go passive....
  4. If I was arguing the AFL case at the Tribunal I would have showed the footage of a first gamer's tackle in the same round. Kynan Brown takes a bigger man down in a textbook tackle (pulling him back so there was no risk of the tackled player's head making contact with the turf). He showed a duty of care - and received the free kick. That was the option open to Dangerfield, an experienced player, that he did not take.
  5. Unless he is the sub - AMW well qualified now to play at either end.
  6. It was the usual "flush" session. All 23 from Saturday night there - although Viney was in a tracksuit top, taking it easy (not unusual for these sessions). Spirits were good. Salo did not do the soccer drill, but Lever did - looks ready. No AFL listed players who played for Casey present today. Melksham joined the main group (see above). Hunter and Hore both did some warm-ups, but not the soccer, so neither seem ready yet. B Brown in discussions with physios.
  7. I was present today and AMW can do nothing more to earn an AFL debut - and it wasn't just today - the so-called "body of work" is now there. Woey took a heavy hit and that may explain his reduced output in the second half. A much inproved performance by Jefferson today but I am not sure I would throw him in against the Lions. Another good VFL performance next and perhaps he could be considered for the Eagles at the G.........perhaps.
  8. Ben Brown injured? Hadn't heard this through the MFC website.
  9. Never fear Old Dee, we are at the feasibility study stage.
  10. He played 4, between 2015 and 2017
  11. TMac and Jefferson played the entire game this morning, so though named in the squad tonight, I expect limited minutes, if any. Tholstrup was pulled at half-time, so good chance he gets more game time tonight. Honorable mention for Andy M-W not mentioned above - very creative and dynamic around goals. Not much for Adams to do but he took some nice intercept marks.
  12. As per the other posts and based on this morning I reckon the starting 23 for tomorrow are as follows: B Bowey May Tomlinson HB McVee Lever Rivers C Windsor Viney Langdon HF Trac Fritsch ANB F Chandler JVR Kozzie FF Gawn Sparrow Laurie IC K Brown, Verrall, Billings, Schache, Howes. Rehab: B Brown, TMac, Woey, McAdam, Fullarton, Salem, AMW. Other AFL listed who will play tomorrow: Oliver, KFW, Jefferson, Adams, Hore, Tholstrup, Sestan. Absent today: J Smith, Hunter, Turner, Brayshaw, Petty, Spargo and Melksham
  13. I don't think that AFLW games will be allowed at Caulfield as it is unlikely any structures (like grandstands) will be allowed inside the track, i.e. where the grounds would be.
  14. That might happen when our leaders tells us straight why the MCG precinct is hot a happening thing. Poor old Club 11 poured $500k into Gosch's, as did the AFL - in 2021. Something then went pear-shaped?
  15. Quote from the Mayor "We want to know what our involvement is going to be." Astute?
  16. So it seems we have announced it before "socialising" the matter with the Council? Not surprising that, after the announcement, a journalist would ring the Mayor and ask "What do you think of this?"
  17. It's the second stage feasibility study you need to be worried about. 2022 Annual Report A $3.5m upgrade to Gosch’s Paddock was completed during 2022. The upgrade resulted in an increase in ground size so that it is MCG length and Marvel Stadium width, which is an important step to ensuring the Club has access to the elite training facilities it required. The project was funded in partnership with the Victorian State Government, Melbourne & Olympic Parks Trust and the AFL, with the Club’s contribution of $1m being funded by an AFL grant ($0.5m) and the generosity of our Club 11 members ($0.4m). The Club continued discussions regarding a long-term Training & Administration Facility, participating in second stage feasibility study with the Victorian State Government on a site within the Melbourne & Olympic Parks precinct. Securing an appropriate outcome is a strategic priority of the Club, however it is a long-term project that can only move at the speed determined by the Victorian State Government given our requirement for land and funding. We thank the Victorian State Government and AFL for their continued support as we pursue a long-term home for the Club. 2023 Annual Report Club Strategic Plan: 2020 – 2023 In February 2020 the Club launched its four year strategic plan. Whilst the Club has been unable to achieve its aim of commencing construction on a new Melbourne home base facility during the strategic period, all involved in the Club are working tirelessly to deliver the vision of a world class primary facility that can be enjoyed by players, staff and supporters, and are confident this vision will be realised in the term of the Club’s next Strategic Plan. We understand the delay is frustrating for players, staff, supporters and your Board, however it is a long-term project and in order to deliver the world class facilities we want we can only move at the speed determined by our key project partners and State Government given our requirement for land and funding. The Club is continuing to work closely with the Victorian State Government on our primary home base, and as advised at last year’s Annual General Meeting this includes opportunities within the Caulfield Racecourse. Announcement – 12 December 2023 The Melbourne Football Club is excited to commence a feasibility study to identify a location for the Club’s long term homebase within the Caulfield Racecourse Reserve. This study is part of a broader project that is focused on community sport and recreation resources, assets and services within the Reserve. The study will be a partnership between the Caulfield Racecourse Reserve Trust (CRRT), the Melbourne Football Club (MFC) and local community stakeholders. (Note – no longer any reference to the State Government).
  18. When asked about timelines, and with lots of caveats, etc.....I heard from the podcast: 1. 12 months feasiblity 2. 12 months approvals, etc... 3. 2 years of construction So, if everything goes according to plan - 2028?
  19. Fantastic SIX, it gives the impression we are on the field with the boys. Amazing stuff.
  20. Reckon 50 max in attendance, excluding MFC staff and officals. 8 or 9 questions.
  21. Mick Stinear did a nice summary of the season. In retrospect, the last game away to Brisbane had a big effect. A very physical match, and all credit to Brisbane who, of course went on to claim the main prize. That meant we were still "down" against North and Mick referred to "other factors" aroud that time which were reported in some forums as illness. He felt like it was only in that last quarter against Geelong that we got our "mojo" back and pehraps a few more minutes and we may have been through to a prelim. A nice touch now that the MFCW B&F will be known as the Daisy Pearce Trophy.
  22. Absolutely, love is long, raking left foot kick. Good prospects with Jed and Disco coming through...
