Dawn of a new Era - Paul Guerra article 18.10.2025
King was appointed on 12 September (and his duties with Geelong continued of course through to the Grand Final), long after Goodwin left. The "re-set" was almost certainly in play well before King's appointment and Oliver and Petracca's fate would have been set. Not saying King didn't endorse it, but he wasn't the architect. Surely the decision-makers asked our captain and vice-captain their views on how a team can function effectively with Oliver and Petracca still there? Same question would have been asked, and answered, re May.

I don't think it's the three guys you have identified that have driven the change (not that they haven't signed off on it) - I reckon it was Green, Gawn, Viney, Richardson and Lamb who decided we can't have another locker room like 2025, and that started with Goodwin departing.

Petracca 16 Brownlow votes - Oliver none.

The Sullivan Robey Thread
I think it might be Oliver Greeves?

The Sullivan Robey Thread
After watching the Robey highlights I want to know who No. 26 is for the Eastern Ranges?

Calling all pre-season track watchers ...
Ghosty and the gang were "loading" at Gosch's yesterday (early I know) - should be primed for 11 November at around 11.11.

Training Ground?
If you're correct - that's not ideal - the ovals will be quite a distance away. All will be revealed - eventually.

AFLW TRAINING: Wednesday 22 October 2025
Good to catch up with Ghosty, Slarti and Tim at training this morning. Our women were fortunate that the rain stopped for most of the session. All in good spirits. Goldy absent and Tayla watched on whilst Liv Purcell did her post-ACL rehab work. Great to see Grace Beasley getting close to a recall - we will need midfield depth going into finals. Blaithin and Maggie Mahony seemed to test well. Even though Georgia Gall is listed as one week, she was moving well today.....maybe a chance to play?

Training Ground?
My understanding is that our building is not proposed to be on the carpark area (near Caulfield station) but will be in the south-east corner closer to Glenhuntly station. It has been moved a short distance from the existing location, which would have been land-locked by the Mt Scopus campus (when built). The ovals will be where they have always been planned to be out towards the start of the back straight.

Training Ground?
Correct - our arrangement is with the CRRT directly - not the MRC (they have their own arrangement with the CRRT).

Letter from the CEO Post Draft
Is he referring to being "informed throughout" by Demon Forever? 😁

Farewell Clayton Oliver
I agree that it's a great shame. The original meaning of shooting oneself in the foot was related to a deliberate act, so that you avoided going into combat. Maybe we are shooting ourself in the foot so as not to have to go into combat with Clayton in the future?

Farewell Clayton Oliver
We still have to pay Steele something, plus whatever we are paying of Clayton's contract - might still be a net "negative"? Do you mean a saving on the gross amount of the Oliver contract?

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
Bucks saw how our Senior Coach selction process played out and decided that being a Senior Assistnat at Geelong will get him his next gig.

Bailey Humphrey
And a lazy 16 Brownlow votes - oh but those umpires aren't good judges. Best of the rest Max 23, Pickett 10.
-
Bailey Humphrey
Mmmm, maybe all those GC supporters will start to exert pressure on Cameron....?
-
Bailey Humphrey
Why this call for the MFC to go public - apart from making us feel better? Tim Lamb is dealing with Craig Cameron and they, in turn, are dealing with Petracca and Humphrey and their managers. The other bargianing chips are draft picks. Each side will have their own "red lines" driven by their own beliefs/requirements, etc... This goes to the wire I reckon. I can't see how going to the press is somehow going to pressure Cameron to do a deal he was never prepared to do?

Assistant Coaches in 2026
Listening to the King interview it seems Chaplin, Jones and Whitford (not Whitfield Steven) are staying and King needs to employ a couple more pretty quickly - Scarlett only a part-time possibility, but he intends to speak to him.

THANK YOU FROM DEMONLAND
Sorry master. I thought we were an anarcho-syndicalist commune?
-
THANK YOU FROM DEMONLAND
Please also accept my thanks to Andy and the team. I have had a quiet word with the regular track-watchers and they have all agreed to waive any performance fees for heading down to Gosch's for 2026, starting of course with the young'uns return in November, 2025. Right Ghosty, Kev, Slarti, Tim and others....? My goodness, we're only a month away!

The List Manager Tim Lamb
I just want to pick up on the Ben Brown deal. It was courageous. At the time I was horrified that we offerred him four years anchored on a knee that was one more traumatic event away from career-ending and, if no trauma, would still need to be "managed". At the end of it we got 13 (2021), 19 (2022), 7 (2023) and 6 (2024) games from Ben (25, 30, 11 and 7 goals). But it probably took the 4 year offer to land him and he was clearly a critical part of our flag success. Years 3 and 4 was the price we paid. Even if Mihocek drops off late in a three-year deal, if we can get one or two good years out of him, I'll be rapt. He has been amazingly consistent and resilient for the Pies. 159 games in 8 years and 267 goals.....

Whatever one's thoughts are about Mr Burgess, he is a marvellous marketer of his credentials. The grass doesn't grow under his feet.

Assistant Coaches in 2026
Well said Ghosty and he was Casey Senior Coach - not the AFL players Development coach. Tough gig coaching at VFL level - so many competing interests.
