Training Ground?
On reflection, we would be closer to the Neerim/Queens Road intersection - which is classified as Park area. Makes sense as we would be leasing from the CRRT. We would not be in that "generally non-residential land use"area, so this zoning would not be directly relevant to us.....

Training Ground?
Very interesting - that's exactly where we want to be - south-east corner. Closer to Glenhuntly station than Caulfield.

CASEY: 2026 Fixture
4 of our first 6 at "home" at Casey. Just have to get on your bike a few times if you want to catch the AFL boys at the G... 9 of the 18 games at home. The only interstate matches are Sydney and Gold Coast matching up with our AFL games there.....

From the gallery, good to see Melksham was in an "action shot". Matthews also continuing to participate....did I also see a profile of Salem?

Some due diligence before putting them on the back of the jersey? - luckily the investigative journailsm did MA in so quickly, no-one really noticed their intended association with us....

Training Ground?
Another potential angle on this is that if the Caulfield project does get the final green light soon - still an if, of course - then whilst the project is being rolled out the Club could save quite a bit of money by moving to Waverley (and use it the same way it uses the AAMI/Gosch's facility now.) I understand it is not cheap to rent the AAMI space. I suspect that the move to Waverley would only occur if Caulfield was a definite "GO", and is announced as such. That does have the other short-term effect of the entire club being "together", but of course only at times when the Footy Department is at Waverley....maybe instead of just Wednesdays at the moment they might train there say twice per week? That fits in with the intent of Tennis Australia to increase their footprint in January with Collingwood sliding across to AAMI/Gosch's during that period.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 4th February 2026
Officially I believe it is just before the scratch matches are played, but the AFL was flexible last year. I recall Jagga Smith going down just before the season started and AMW in our practice match against North - which allowed Jai Culley to come in. ChatGPT tells me the cutoff date aws 20 Feb 2026 but the AFL have extended it to March 2.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 4th February 2026
Apologies for the very late report: Absent: May (now announced publicly) Bowey, McAdam (see below) and White (?). Rehab - looking some time away, Bowey, McAdam (see above) Viney, Campbell (walking only in neck brace) and Henderson (although he began running today to a great cheer from the main group). Rehab - but not too worried - Salem, CJ, Laurie, Melksham, Johnson. Gawn, Matthews and Sharp back in business today and Rivers (as reported on) doing some work away from the group, but looks OK. That leaves 38 of the 44 still fit and available if my "not too worried" boys come good. Comments: MAY I agree that from what we have seen at training so far May was not in the first 23 anyway - TMac, Turner and Lever ahead - with Adams available if necessary. AMW - seems to be following his program, reckon he plays on Feb 20, if not before, maybe in the intra-club. Worry about small backs - see above re AMW, Howes, CJ and I still prefer Rivers back (given we have so many other mid-field options) The interesting issue for me is whether anyone is moved to the LTI group pre-season. This time last year Culley was training the house down and he was lucky enough to take AMW's spot at the last moment. I did not see any train-on players there today....

The VFL competition
I have seen various mutterings from the AFL before that they "are studying" the long-term solution to go back to a "proper" Reserves set-up where all 18 (soon to be 19) AFL teams participate - that of course leaves the stand-alone clubs nowhere - presumably many would fold? Casey? Obviously a huge cost issue if reserves played curtain-raisers that matched up with the AFL fixture. While this study goes on we get what we get - a real hotchpotch.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 28th January 2026
A bit of repetition but here goes. All players present but Tom Campbell joined the group in his neck brace, with his kids, towards the end of training. Those in rehab and looking some way away (6) - Bowey, Henderson, Viney, Melksham, McAdam (a particular concern as he now seems to be heavily favouring his left knee) and Salem (hard to judge what he has done - but doing only very light work today). Petty and Kentfield in fluoro caps (no contact) and did all the craft work, so no match sim for them, but suggest they are not far away. Same for Sharp, Gawn and AMW - did most of the drills, but no match sim. Match sim was interesting - with no Gawn or Campbell, Johnson and Heath do the ruck work. In and under were Steele, Rivers, Lindsay, Windsor, Kosi and Sparrow with Langdon and Culley setting up in one wing position and Langford and Tholstrup (Onley alternating) on the other side. We may be getting an insight into our mids this year....? Not Culley, not Langford - these two, with Langdon may rotate through the wings...

Training Ground?
That's correct. The north option is quite a distance from the existing road tunnel and therefore would be sub-optimal for us. But access to the ovals from the south still to be agreed.
-
Training Ground?
Not sure about the pokies, but I am pretty certain that we will get to where we want to be which is in that south-eastern corner, the closest spot to be able to access the ovals. And that access issue is one of the remaining matters to be sorted out...

Training Ground?
Correct, the school slowed things down and the MRC wanted us on the north side - we want to be on the south side. Reckon we'll win that argument. Big meeting this Thursday. That doesn't mean, of course, that we will get an announcement or an update from the Club immediately.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 21st January 2026
Absent: Rivers and Petty (Bowser turned up, which was nice). Of the rehabbers, I'll take an educated stab on availability: Far Away - Bowey (of course) Viney, McAdam, Henderson, Campbell (still in neck brace and walking only) Getting Closer - Matthews, Mihocek, Laurie, Melksham, Gawn Almost there - Sharp, AMW. JVR had a bandage on his knee and looked a little proppy today. Luker Kentfield seemed to also have a sore foot, but I would not classify them as rehabbers - just two to watch. These Wednesday sessions seem like "craft" sessions so we don't see full-on match sims, just many different drills, goal-kicking, etc... Track-watchers view of "training the house down category" Culley, Fritsch, Windsor, with Trelly Pickett the stand-out of the new boys. Getting a little excited about what Matthews might be able to do as he increases the activities he can particpate in, and with Bowey's absence, Taylor's chances of being in the Round 1 team probably increasing. So many mid-fielders to choose from - have almost forgotten about the old numbers 5 and 13.....
