A wonderful tale to finish the weekend. Thanks WJ. -

Thanks Tasmanlvr, a big effort to include so much detail. Your dedication to gathering and sharing the good oil is appreciated. -
Keith "Bluey" Truscott at the Australian War Memorial
waynewussell replied to Bendigo Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
The current crop would do well to research those that came before them. These blokes were basically amateurs who dedicated themselves to their clubs, and in Bluey's case (along with many others) gave their lives fighting for a cause they believed in... not snorting another line! -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
waynewussell replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm a Melksham fan... have been for a long time. I welcome the addition and I wouldn't limit him to the backline. Melksham can have an influence in the centre and he can hit the scoreboard! Another master stoke at the right time for our recruiters.... More to come in the next week! -

How the midfield looks as we enter Trade Week(s)

'How it looks' is not the same as 'How it is'! This is my reading of all that I have read and heard... including my contacts on the GC -

Unusual News Bulletin on SEN Monday morning 14th September

Thanks for responding H_T ... I'm sure I heard something on Monday morning. I'm monitoring this story on a daily basis... Some strange things happening in news of shootings these days. -

I note several have viewed this post... Even if you didn't hear the bulletin I would appreciate any advice as to how I could find out. -
Unusual News Bulletin on SEN Monday morning 14th September
waynewussell replied to waynewussell's topic in General Discussion
If you read my post and know about the Cleveland murder / suicide incident you will probably deduce that a Monday morning news report would have preceded the time the shooting took place! -
Did anyone hear a news bulletin about a 'lockdown" at Delta University, Mississippi, USA on SEN radio MONDAY morning at 7:00 am or 7:30am? I'm sure I heard mention of another firearm crisis coming out of the regular news broadcast on SEN around that time. The reason this interests me is that Mississippi is 14 hours behind us... that would put the lockdown at about 5:00pm Sunday!

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
waynewussell replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
Mad_Melbourne, you say that Jake is a sub-average bloke... that's an indication to me that you don't know him and are not in a position to judge his character, let alone his football ability. I get the feeling that Jake will stay with Bombers, so any discussion of what he could or couldn't add to our list is purely speculative. What I do know is Jake is a respectful, hard-working and sincere bloke who does his family proud! -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
waynewussell replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
"So that means that there are 27 better players on our list. That makes Melksham a fringe player at a poor club, as he is at Essendon." No mo, It means he would, in my opinion, be in our top 27 at the moment. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
waynewussell replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
Can't read any more of this (insert Irish word for excrement) without offering an opinion... MFC can not get whoever is available (for so many obvious reasons I do not have to list!) Jake Melksham would be comfortable playing for Bombers if they offered more than is on the table (and they probably will) He is a better AFL player than 13 players that are on our list at the moment! If we are his second choice for a three year deal then count our blessings in a cut-throat, fire-sale period... depending n what we have to give up to secure him. THAT IS THE CRUX OF THE MATTER... What do we have to give up? Anyone who is shooting from the hip about his worth should do no more than watch his most recent game... if you have the time. I already know that Jake has the character and motivation to be a very worthwhile addition to our list. The denigration here of his ability and achievement to date is pathetic. -
So silly to call him a one trick pony... Excellent intercept mark as well as a hanger-merchant Good athleticism and kicks with penetration

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 23
waynewussell replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
... but I don't deny that this may flag a Watts involvement in a Roos master stroke to get that 'A' grade mid! -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 23
waynewussell replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Watts would not leave MFC at the drop of a hat. He is very loyal and loves the place. There are a number of contingencies here * not playing his role as well as required against Freo * has an offer from another club that MFC can use for some other advantage * will resume former position as another player is unlikely to get up for Sunday * just making way so Roos can get another look at someone else on the fringe etc etc -
I would never encourage fellow supporters to stay at home, but I suggest the time has come for us to send a message to the team. We are fed up with the sequence of insipid first quarters. I propose that all MFC supporters turn up at Quater Time this week at Etihad.

Given my username I feel it appropriate that I comment here. When I joined this site I was looking to send up a commentator who had an overblown sense of self-importance. That was way back then... I rest my case!

I don't have the energy anymore to respond to the Grimes haters. Grimes has 9 of the 10 qualities required to be universally accepted as a legend of the club. Those that continually criticise his inclusion are not capable of helpful analysis.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 22
waynewussell replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 Viney 5 Cross 4 Gawn 3 Grimes 2 Salem 1Garlett -
Some observations from long term sufferer! !2 frees to 4 in first quarter sets the tone! I challenge you to find a match where a team won from being 12 to 4 down in first quarter. Pavlich had almost as many frees as MFC at Qtr time... Two of those were debatable. Until stats are publicised about umpires and frees for and against this remains as the most corrupt part of game day! Tom McDonald is a turnover King! I'm quite happy to offload him (but keep his brother). Matt Jones is a nice bloke but he has surely played his last game for MFC. Grimes is a keeper... He does turn it over occasionally, but compared to T McDonald and M Jones he is a keeper Stretch shows a lot! Gawn was very good against very good opposition. Jamar is streets ahead of Spencer and Spencer should not appear on our list in 2016. This was surely a game for 1 on 1 tactics... Our zoning in first quarter was laughable and gifted blokes like Pearce the chance to show off with his inside out shots for goal, but we all know he doesn't have the guts required for finals football and it will end in tears!

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 20
waynewussell replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 Viney (When umpires realise that a player will bend down to pick up the ball and is not 'ducking', Viney will get 4 more kicks every outing) 5 McDonald (5 costly turnovers in the first 45 minutes but didn't drop his bundle and worked back into the contest in a different role) 4 Watts (our best in first half when all else was diabolical) 3 Hogan (3 goals from limited entry) 2 Harmes (Takes the game on... a lot in common with S Tingay at the same stage) 1 N Jones (kept trying to lift lazy, bamboozled mates with limited success)
