2023 Best and Fairest
Sometimes a football team shows too much respect for an opponent. We have for Collingwood. It didn't work! Refreshing to do a little trash talking (cause that's all it is). Show some disrespect and don't be overawed!

AFLW: Rd 06 vs Adelaide
The free kick against Goldy for a dangerous tackle 35 metres out from our goal (when she ran down the Adelaide player in a perfect tackle, carried forward by the opponent's momentum) was ridiculous, and revealed umpiring bias as clear as day!

Harrison Petty
Oops... I saw Petty instead of Clarry

Farewell Brodie Grundy
The conjecture about Max throwing the toys out of the cot is hilarious! The notion that we lost out by recruiting Grundy is also laughable (unless we are talking about a monetary catastrophe, which I do believe has several stages to play out yet). We got a good player in the door. It wasn't the only reason we failed to win a final. I reckon some good may come of it before season 2024 gets under way!

Dunstan calls it a day
Poor form in an attempt to be funny! Dunstan played his first game for St Kilda against Melbourne in Round 1, 2014. He was awarded the AFL Rising Star nomination for his performance. Dunstan became an integral part of St Kilda's midfield over the course of 2014 before bowing out after round 19 for shoulder surgery. Following his last game in round 23, St Kilda icon and Dunstan's mentor Lenny Hayes handed his number 7 guernsey over to Dunstan. Soon afterwards, Dunstan signed a contract extension, keeping him at the Saints until 2017. Dunstan turned his back on a potential move home to South Australia after playing an important role in the Saints' climb to ninth in 2016. The 22-year-old averaged 17 disposals from 18 games in 2016, before being forced to undergo his second shoulder reconstruction in three years – but this time to his opposite (left) shoulder. In 2017, Dunstan signed a two-year contract extension with St Kilda to remain at the club until the end of 2019. Dunstan scored 11 votes in the Brownlow in 2021 to be St Kilda’s second highest vote getter behind Jack Steele. In 2022 he came to the Demons, and we were fortunate to have him. You know the rest!

Cool light of day
As this thread is titled, "Cool Light of Day", I thought it time to reflect on Goodwin's winning record since taking over amidst this episode of Knives Out! Home & Away = 60% Finals = 50%

The Neal-Bullen non goal
Clearly? You jest! Where is this footage that "clearly" shows a touch?
-
The Neal-Bullen non goal
No conclusive evidence in that clip! Thinking that it was probably touched, or that it might have been touched is not conclusive, therefore the soft call stands! Stitch up!

Vale Ronald Dale Barassi - Rest in Peace
When I was a kid, all the big boys at primary school wore number 31. It’s the main reason I’m a Demons supporter to this day. Our hearts broke when he left for Carlton in 1965. Still, he gave us something to cheer about when the Demons were in the doldrums, with his success coaching Carlton, and later North Melbourne. We were over the moon when he eventually returned to MFC in 1981. I was at The Western Oval in round 3 of that year for his first win coaching his old club. Melbourne kicked 6 goals in the final quarter to get up by one point. I think Robbie kicked a goal after the siren. I jumped the fence and made a beeline for the coaches’ box as Melbourne fans invaded the oval. Halfway across I saw Barassi charging through the crowd in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, a little girl crossed his path and the legend tripped. It occurs to me that that little girl succeeded where many fierce opponents had failed; she brought down the great man! In round 14, later that year, Melbourne played St Kilda at Moorabbin. I used to sneak into the clubrooms whenever the opportunity arose by nonchalantly acting as though I belonged. On that day I found myself in the inner sanctum, hot pie in hand, while the Reserves were playing the curtain-raiser. Hoping to avoid detection, I stood by a whiteboard which listed the team positions for the match. I was surprised to see Robbie named at half-back! I heard a familiar voice behind me, “Excuse me mate, who are you?” It was Ron... “I’m just a supporter”, I offered. “Jesus... Who let this guy in?” Ron yelled in the direction of the doorman. I was swiftly escorted to the exit by a red-faced attendant. Many years passed before my next face to face encounter with Ronald Dale. He released his Biography in 2010 and I attended the book launch. He was charming and obliging. I mentioned that I had been a follower since those early days at primary school. I also took a few photos. It was wonderful that Ron was with us to hold the Premiership Cup again after Melbourne’s triumph in 2021. He always added 17410 to his signature; 17 grand finals, four clubs, 10 premierships. For me it now reads 18411. RIP, Ronald Dale.

GAMEDAY: SF vs Carlton
Umpire News: The umpires for this evening are, 21 Simon Meredith 22 Nathan Williamson 27 Andre Gianfagna 32 Jacob Mollison These umpires did not officiate in either of the Melbourne v Carlton games in 2023 Three of them (21, 22, 27) officiated in our round 24 match against Sydney. The free kick tally in that game was Demons 18, Sydney 10. Carlton have had Meredith 4 times in 2023, Williamson 4 times, Mollison 4 times and Gianfagna once. We have had Meredith 3 times, Williamson 5 times, Mollison 3 times and Gianfagna 5 times. Only bad omen I can see is that we had Meredith and Williamson against Essendon, but still managed to get 23 frees to 19.

Maynard must get at least four weeks
In League, players are not permitted to have a collision with the kicker if the ball has been kicked. If a League player makes heavy contact with the kicker, in this situation, he will be suspended!

Maynard must get at least four weeks
I've stopped listening to SEN, I've stopped watching Ch7 & Ch9 news, I've stopped reading The Age (stopped reading The Herald Sun years ago).

Maynard must get at least four weeks
I haven't heard this mentioned yet, but Maynard's action wasn't even 'team-first! He opted to give away a free downfield that would result in an almost certain goal when his team had already established momentum. Irrespective of whether his actions ended in serious or minimal contact, he was hell-bent on making front on contact after the ball had been disposed of, which was always going to be a downfield free. A selfish and unnecessary action!

How far away is Matt Jefferson?
I have been a Jefferson supporter, but his efforts yesterday were below par. Compacted by selectors stripping the Casey side bare, Jefferson was dispirited or injured. It was a very disappointing display when his team needed a key forward to stand up.
