AFL TRADE, DRAFT AND FREE AGENCY DATES 2024
dino rover replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Liam Reidy Fremantle Ideally Age 22-25 TICK High impact, experienced, TICK Returning Victorian? TICK Dissatisfied with current team/prospects? TICK behind Jackson and Darcy but dominant in WAFL. Cheap. Started as a fwd but plays first ruck now. -
I hate the way taggers are allowed to obstruct the tagged I love how Libba gives it back to Berry
-
Lions banner shame! Unnecessary use of an apostrophe!

Can we put to bed please some time honoured demon homilies ? 1 we are in the premiership window- but we go out of the finals in straight sets 2 we have a great midfield- we have some great midfielders but we are slow on transition and weak on clearances particularly centre clearances 3 big losses always explained by loading 4 we can get by without real ruck relief for Max 5 we are a young team - yes but not in some key positions/ roles - ruck max key backs may McDonald key fwds Bb 6 we can win flag in 2024 7 we will revert to a finals winning style (not the red and blueprint) come finals - switching game styles let’s face the music try some young players and have a clean out of the NQR cadre we have collected

Good field kick
-
PA forward line doesn’t inspire Dixon is all huff and puff tuff stuff but nothing more subbed out marshall underwhelming georgiades did well but can’t get a regular game TDK was good Soldo no good
-
Collingwood: Cox (leg and concussion), Mihocek (hamstring) tough
-
According to current orthodoxy that doesn’t matter 70% of scoring is from turnovers so a dump kick clearance gets easily converted into a forward entry I’m uncomfortable with giving up on clearances but can’t fault the logic I guess it depends on the quality of the clearance
-
Doesn’t that suggest we are over weight on salary for our midfield? Have we over invested in midfielders for a clearance contest dominance game that is no longer the secret sauce it was?
-
It will be dry for the game petty fritch Gawn bbb Fullarton petracca and Mcadam all have good hands and will dominate the air fwd with the right supply defence is settled

Hamish Brayshaw’s open letter to the AFL spices things up sets out the incompetence inconsistency in a passionate rebuke https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-05-02/hamish-brayshaw-writes-open-letter-to-afl/103794000?utm_source=abc_news_web&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_campaign=abc_news_web

Stanley was monstered by Pittonet and hopefully max takes that to the next level danger out as well so we should be competitive on clearances although they don’t matter so much apparently (Binman?) the cats are very good from turnovers and their fwd line is elite
-
Sheesh a fwd line of Hawkins Cameron Henry Myer stengall dangerfield they lose the clearances but convert the turnovers so well
-
Dangerfield has old man syndrome he goes to ground too easily can’t keep his feet and contest the pill
-
Really? Dangerous or debilitating? Come on toughen up! Clarry don’t give em anything
-
Sheesh his kicking for goal was cr#p last night and this year maybe his injury is an excuse but it’s too hard to get forward entries not to convert what kind of money is he on? if he is going his trade value is plummeting
-
That’s an impressive forward line
-
He could need more roughage Perhaps Metamucil?
-
Great stuff and even better Carlton lose two players to hamstring injuries great!
-
How about Curnow and McKay? serious KPF
-
Or just delist
-
“You would never pay big money for a tap ruckman” sheesh blasphemy on Demonland given our love of Max but reason says if you don’t dominate around the ground and can’t connect taps to clearances then you are wasting money clubs who have a relatively [censored] low cost ruck Adelaide Geelong port Sydney Carlton gws west coast Brisbane others? it’s academic I suppose because we aren’t trading Max …. But money ball says….

Interested in your take on our apparent lack of clearance “connection” from centre bounces. In centre bounces the idea that we play an extra behind the play can’t apply and arguably centre bounce clearances provide great opportunities for forwards because there is less fwd congestion. max has a 29% hit outs to advantage stat considered “average” what is the stat for hit outs to advantage from centre bounces? Is this an area for improvement?
-
According to afl app Max has hit outs to advantage 29% considered “average “ he is highly rated and I don’t doubt that but as a unit the midfield group are under achieving on clearances presumably because we play one behind the play that can’t apply at centre bounces though
