Per media reports tagged in this thread. apparently we have a free run at him
He has already said no to Port and Geelong are also chasing him

He has kicked only 60 goals in 177 games. He’s a very good player - in the ruck. But he’s not a good forward. And we already have a great ruckman who is an average key forward. Grundy or Gawn will be in the forward line for 60% of the game.
He was the number 1 ruck at Collingwood and probably 80 if not 90% of his playing time in the ruck, so how do you know he can’t play forward?

It worries me that no other club are interested in Grundy. Why is that?
Who says no other club is interested?

On the back of winning the first 10 games. Not saying he doesn’t deserve another year but we won’t be contending if we only have one tall fwd again next year.
You said it was 50/50 which I don’t agree with. Regardless of our forward issues, Melksham earned his contract

Surprising re Melksham but I suppose you need to spend your money somewhere and with Mitch Brown gone.
Hibberd... one year is fine
Melksham played forward for the 2nd half of the year in a team that finished 2nd on the ladder, he deserves and has earned a contract

Seems Georgiades is in dees sights, great pick up if we can get it done.
I would assume he would more likely to head West.

No need to be so narky D11. There have been lots of posts saying he is gone where the poster implies they have inside knowledge or use the word official loosely. It's unreasonable to say 'officially' until it is announced by the club or player. And it is reasonable to ask anyone posting the basis for their statement. If by 'offically' you mean you have a reliable inside source that tells you it has happened, you should simply say so.
Can we say official now 😉

Pick 2 is fair but I can’t see WC parting with it. They are rebuilding.
Jackson will end up at Freo

We are not dealing with WCoast!
Unless Freo and WC do a deal !!!!
Stiff luck a WC trade is not on the books yet !!!

Not sure why we never experimented with him as an inside mid, or on the wing
Hang on, I think I do actually...
We experimented with him as a 2nd ruck and we won a flag

They announced the new soft cap a few months ago. It wasn't a massive increase IIRC but better than nothing.
Hard to disassociate player group form from line coaches and then there is the overarching gameplan.
Where to start
I think they’ll increase again on the back of the TV rights deal. The last increase was just to help clubs lift existing staff wages up to account for the reduction they took in Covid

I was just wondering who we could add to the Melbourne Demons coaching staff to help us next year in 2023?
I definitely think Simon Goodwin would like to improve our line coaches.
I know a lot will depend if Adem Yze ends up getting the Essendon coaching job or (hopefully) stays with us.
Nevertheless, I think the Melbourne Demons should definitely look to consider pursuing Ben Rutten and Nathan Buckley.
I do not like to compare with other clubs. But if you look at Collingwood they definitely improved their coaching staff for 2022. They brought in Brendon Bolton and Justin Leppitsch who have definitely helped Craig McCrae in his first year as senior coach at the Magpies.
Obviously we still have Mark "Choco" Williams who has been absolutely fantastic for us. As has Adem Yze in supporting Simon Goodwin.
We also shouldn't forget the efforts made by Troy Chaplin and Greg Stafford. Not to mention the Casey Demons VFL coach Mark Corrigan.
Alan Richardson does a brilliant job as Football Manager and I am sure Sam Radford contributes immensely too.
Nevertheless, I just would like to see improvements made for our forward line connection and if we can bring some more talented coaches in to help improve team performance then that would definitely make a difference.
Anyway, please let me know your thoughts on whether or not we should consider pursuing Ben Rutten and Nathan Buckley to join our coaching staff at the Melbourne Football Club?
I think anything we can do to help us improve for season 2023 needs to at least be considered.
I think the soft cap will increase and they will be able to get in a new assistant coach as well as someone in strength and conditioning

The Weed KPB isn't a bad idea!
I found it fascinating that the Swans could turn P McCartin into a very good KPB when he showed very little previously at AFL level. Obviously, the concussions were a huge factor but that is incredible coaching! To have the foresight to do it and make the transition over only one pre-season is amazing.
The difference being is that McCartin is fearless in the air. The Weed is not

I have been critical of Kossie at times and am hesitant on Jacko becoming a star, however, we were to lose both in one off season, the club would be in serious turmoil
What a load of rubbish!
2 players don’t make a side and we have all our core guns signed on long term deals

Turner can replace Petty
Petty is a great backman and was absolutely brilliant last night, I would not be moving him back.

I love how last year our flag was built off the coaching of our assistant coaches and now when we don't win it, it's all Goodwin's fault.
Exactly!!!! Some supporters just have it in for Goodwin

i’m sitting here at the G after that.
apart from being pretty upset, I am furious that Goodwin failed to do anything about the dysfunctional forward line. it’s been evident from the Queens birthday game. and it took until the game was lost for him to put someone (Petty - kicked one and gave away another) up there who might change things up.We are in danger of being a one hit wonder. The forward line was not the issue tonight, we got slaughtered by the Lions midfield.

http://Trusted two ‘bad’ people: Hird reveals his failings as Dons coach
This headline today in the Hun. Hird PR campaign in full flow, no doubt helped by Robbo. Essentially says that Hird made the mistake of being too trusting….
In fairness it’s not Hird PR, it’s from the Howie games podcast which was taped in July and just it the podcast this week.

Taranto is A grade if he gets his body right. Bringing Taranto and Hopper in completely rejuvenated their midfield and keeps them competitive for a few more years. No idea how they got them both to nominate them. Hats off to the Tigers on the coup.
Let’s just hope we can get a quality tall forward in!
No way Taranto is A grade, the bloke has good attributes but he is incredibly overrated

Mmm. Despite some strong arguments against, I'll back in our premiership coach. If it doesn't pan out, it doesn't pan out. Been a great year and I'm grateful to everyone at our club for making it what it is.
P.S I reckon it'll pan out.
