I saw they let go of Jarrod Brander as well. He was one I wanted us to look at last year. Tall, athletic, can play wing or forward and has a bigger body then a lot of the forwards we have at the moment.

Pass! Couldn’t get a game at either WC or GWS.

You've missed the point. Not all 11 players got injured late in the season. Some like Trac and Brown were playing with injury for more than half a season. Surely a rest here and there wouldn't hurt. Despite having the pre-finals bye, our players looked physically spent during the finals.

Always easier in hindsight.  If we rested players then do we actually win the games we played in and then do we actually make top 4.  It’s always easier to say if we did something different then the result may have been different but it’s so subjective.  Goody has so much faith in the group which is one of the reasons we won the flag and why all our guns have committed long-term.

We all jumped on the Burgo mantra of playing through injury. The reality is we had a shortened pre-season, and players were training a couple of weeks after the flag. We shouldn't have tried to replicate 2021 in terms of player management.

We had a VFL team in extraordinary form, and yet we didn't avail ourselves of these players. Match committee preferred to play underdone players than fit and firing players like Chandler, Dunstan and JVR.

Hopefully this is one of the learnings that Goody is talking about.

Mate the VFL is so far inferior to the AFL.  If you changed the 11 injured players for VFL players we would have been beaten by 10 goals.

Goodwin being interviewed now on RSN 927 breakfast show  says Bedford, Chandler, Laurie, JVR are all part of our future going forward.

Believes Kossie is very happy at MFC and can see him playing  with us long term. Doesn't know where the rumours about him leaving come from. Can get podcast on RSN later today

He is great to listen to Goody.  The club is in great hands and he clearly understands they’ll need to change some things next year

Ask for swap for James Stewart or Aaron Francis.
Reckon we could make a player out of either one.

🤮 Francis and Stewart would be no chance of playing senior footy at the Dees

Regardless of the extent of the injury, once we were knocked out by Brisbane he should've been placed in cotton wool. Idiotic decision to let him keep playing/training for Casey.

That’s crap! Players love playing footy and that’s what they are trained to do.

Getting Grundy rules out getting a developed/developing ruckman from another club in the foreseeable future.

The only developing ruckman we'd have at the club is Weid, and he would most likely seek opportunities elsewhere if he continues to develop. We'll probably rookie another younger ruckman, but with our 5 year commitment to Grundy, they'll want out as well.

Getting Grundy is such a short-sighted move.

That’s exactly the point, we are in the window now.

No he wont! neat disposal, but does not get it anywhere near enough, is not overly quick enough either and doesn't hit the scoreboard enough. More to the point, if he continues to get games in front of Bedford and Chandler, then we will have gone BACKWARDS! IMV!

Doesn’t get enough of it??? What are you talking about.  He played forward pocket / half forward.  Do you expect him to have 25 a week? He is only 22 years old, of course he’ll improve and if you think Chandler and or Bedford are better players than you are kidding yourself.  They are both of similar age and have not shown half the ability of Spargs

I know he's not as good as Petty as a defender, but he could replace Petty as a permanent defender and Petty move forward. (Turner the other option)

I thought he was solid in the early rounds of 2022 when were missing Lever and Petty and played an excellent game against Port in NT as a defender in round 18.

Was very quick to be omitted after ordinary games against Sydney and Bulldogs where as others were immune from an axing.

But yeah, for the betterment of his career, he probably needs to find a club light on for key defenders.

He gets out marked in one on one contests way to often

Any news on Buddy since the potential lions one year deal? I find it hard to believe he would leave for a one year deal

Another 52 goals. 3 contested marks and 2 goals in the prelim.

I wonder if the Demons are interested? I know I would be keen!

Also it’s just been announced, scary timing then. 1 more year it seems

Someone on here said that Tom was having the metal clip removed Thursday. My source tells me he is having more scans as it doesn't appear to be a recurrence of the Lisfanc which would be great news.

The metal has to come out for this injury.  I have done it myself and i believe they left it in to help him play

He’ll be at the Swans for 2 more

The first year kids look promising but apart from JVR can any be seriously tipped to contribute next year? JVR is what we need. Turner is what we need. Bowey is what we need. But mostly they’re taking over from the ageing guys. I don’t think we’ve got enough young talent to cut best 22 players unless we’re trading in ready to go replacements is my point.

We have enough young talent playing in the senior side.  Most of our guns still have their best years ahead of them

So much competition that the coach won’t play them. And say what you want about Goodwin let’s stop with this idea he doesn’t play kids or has no idea what he’s doing. He just won a flag with a bunch of young players.

Key back: Turner, if he can add to his game and string together, wasn’t really ready this year
    Small back; Bowey
    Midfield: nothing.
Forward: Chandler and Bedford are ok, but Chandler’s slow and Bedford lacks composure

Our VFL won the flag because our list management has flooded the list with good VFL players and Casey players were very strong. It says little of how many future AFL players we’ve got developing.

That’s called depth with the good VFL players you are talking about.  As for the kids you neglected to mention JVR, Howes, Woewodin and Moniz who all showed a bit this year.  The kids you mention all have flaws that’s why they play VFL to develop and iron out their flaws.  I’m not sure what uiu expect a list to look like but no team in the AFL has 40 players of quality who are all ready to play AFL.

Disagree. Stewart is awesome, and Cameron’s had a fantastic year. But Selwood and Danger flash in and out and Hawkins is excellent but only at one thing - plonking himself 30 out from goal and winning a one on one. Takes a lot of system around him.

Guthrie, Blicavs and Atkins have been the consistent driving forces of their midfield this year. Their small forwards have been excellent. And whilst Stewart (pick 40 btw) is the key to their backline they’re no name guys all do the job.

Its all irrelevant though. I’m not looking for stars. We’re looking to upgrade or create more competition for our bottom 6

We have lots of competition for our bottom 6, the VFL just won the flag after a nearly faultless season.  We don’t want for much other then another forward or 2.

When Oscar is in the notables you know you’re struggling.

To quote myself: Geelong have picked up Close, Miers, Henry, Atkins, Zuthrie and Stengle. That’s over a quarter of their side! That’s how you stay at the top for so long.

Jason Taylor’s done a heck of a job with the first 2 rounds. Recruited us a premiership 22. But you, me or a drawing names from a hat could’ve done just as well in the later rounds.

They are stay at the top because of their top end not because of the players you mentioned

The fact we are chasing Gunston is probably a result of this. Incredibly poor decision making from the football dept. Reeks of desperation.

He does reek of desperation.  It would have been left in T Macs hands if he wanted to have a crack at it and he choose to do so

I hear your concerns on Meek  but Grundy WAS a multiple AA and WAS a B and F.  His contract has too many years left on it.

Big risk I can't see Pert signing off on unless contarct terms are rock solid our way risk-wise.

Every recruit is a risk, signing players for 7 or 8 years is a risk.  You don’t get opportunities to sign stars of the comp on a reduced rate whilst in the window.   Grundy is a beast and will make us a better side
