I hear your concerns on Meek  but Grundy WAS a multiple AA and WAS a B and F.  His contract has too many years left on it.

Big risk I can't see Pert signing off on unless contarct terms are rock solid our way risk-wise.

Every recruit is a risk, signing players for 7 or 8 years is a risk.  You don’t get opportunities to sign stars of the comp on a reduced rate whilst in the window.   Grundy is a beast and will make us a better side

There's a difference between being a better player and a better option. There are more reasons for Meek being the better option than there are for Grundy.

Grundy is both a better player and a better option

We've shown interest, so he could be steak knives in the Jackson trade. Would be a better option than Grundy IMO, as he's younger and would be much much cheaper. Provides backup ruck for Gawn and the big Grundy money could be spent more important list needs such as a key forward, classy forward flanker or small lockdown defender.

How can he possibly be a better option than Grundy? Grundy is a multiple all Australian and best and fairest winner and Meek is a WAFL player.

His role on Mccartin has been a tad overblown. Went with him in forward 50 to an extent but seemed to changeover when he got outside 50. Reasonable defensive job but a lacklustre game I thought and needed a lot more from him.

Melksham is not the match winner in our team, he is a role player

You might think that, but it would likely have a significant effect on young supporters with 36 or 6 on their jumper. Kids aren't as rusted on as they have been on the past

Parents but their kids memberships, kids find a new favourite player very quickly

You would think after winning a flag players would be lining up to join the Demons. I have not heard one player be linked to us with the exception of Grundy and he is only linked to us because Collingwood are desperate to unload some dollars on a player who is injury prone and not in their best 22 anymore and we are in desperate need of a backup ruckmen with LJ leaving us high and dry.

LJ leaves after 3 years. Kozzy has one foot out the door and might be gone at the end of next year.

Are players not attracted to the Dees because we don't have the dollars to spend?

What is it about our club that doesn't attract players if there aren't big bucks on the table?

Players come and go from clubs and we have successfully targeted players we need over the past 5 years.  Losing players is part of football and will only become more frequent in the years to come. You also have to consider that we arguably have 3 of the best 5 players in the league, you can’t have everything

Really disappointing to hear that we're set to recontract Jake Melksham. Michael Hibberd I can understand because he has been consistent with his form all year, but Melksham..?

He's last couple of games showed that he's just past it. Other then the Carlton game he didn't much in any other games and he was incredibly poor against Sydney.

Played as the 2nd tall forward forward so that alone has chewed games off Jacob Van Rooyen who once again justified on the weekend that he was physically ready to go.

He's going to be 32 next year and our focus needs to be on the next wave of talent coming through like Laurie, Chandler, Bedford and Moniz-Wakefield.

If we can get an extra list spot to bring in another developing tall forward/ruckman then surely that makes more sense then keeping washed up 32 year old forward flanker.

Melkshams done his job against Sydney, he completely just out McCartin and if not for a bad night in front of the sticks it would have been a very good game.

Melkshams number 1 job was to shut the out the oppositions best interceptor which he did incredibly well.

Yep, I reckon you're spot on.

I can just see our list management strategy meeting down at Rye.

Tim Lamb: So, do we keep Melksham everyone?

Jason Taylor: I think it might be time to go back to the well and see what we can get from draft instead.

Alan Richardson: I agree. Let's cut him.

Simon Goodwin: Hang on a second guys. I'm really good mates with Melky.

Tim Lamb: Oh yeah. You are too.

Alan Richardson: Good point. Maybe we keep him.

Jason Taylor: Yeah, fair enough. I was forgetting you guys were good mates, Goody. Let's keep him. Stuff the draft pool.

Let’s hope that they are hurting as much as we here are.

I think you would find players hurt a hell of a lot more than supporters.  They are the ones who put in the blood, sweat and tears

Geelong pulled out. It's just us.

And if Grundy was capable as a forward, do you really think that a club that is lacking key forwards would be so desperate to get rid of him?

They are salary dumping and I’m not saying he is coming to us as a forward, he will play mainly Ruck and pinch hit forward.  He will also be a great target around the ground
