It would be amazing to land him, but I doubt Collingwood would let him go. Offer him $600 k over 3 years and see if we get a bite.
-
In a year where football scouts haven't been able to see players in the NAB league, school footy, VAFA, VFL, WAFL, NEAFL etc. It would be foolish IMO to let go of so many players without knowing what talent we could bring into the club. It would have to have been based off 2019 form. Therefore I don't see us getting rid of many players. It will also depend on the list sizes for next year, from what i've read it will be reduced to a list size of 40.
-
Coaches should be signed on no more than 2 year contracts. It was completely irresponsible to sign Goodwin up after 1 successful season in 2018.
-
I'd wait until tomorrow before you make that call. Harmes has been playing all year in defence and I have a feeling he'll be moved into a mid or forward position.
-
Suit yourself... skills should be immaculate then. No fumbles, or slow congested footy. Lots of clean contested marks right? basically your saying it's no fault then our own if Melbourne loses to a injury riddled side yea?
-
Served my country up in Townsville for many years so yea I know what i'm talking about.

aye... the curse of the black pearl. Yarrrghhh!

Would of been perfect time to trial Hunt down back while Hibberd was out. Hunt plays best in defence.
-
I believe they are trying to build consistency with the three talls in defence with May, Lever and Omac come finals time. We'll need Oscar there. As Gawny mentioned a few months back "Omac was the best last defender, and organised the structures in defence". So I can see why he get's picked tonight. I wouldn't be surprised if they put Jones back to go with Papley, allowing Harmsey to play the fwd/wing role. Jonesy is better at HBF than on the wing anyway. But i'm sure they'll rotate a few player on the Pap throughout the night with J.Wags, Smith and Jones. Pretty happy with the lineup but I would prefer to keep Kozzie in the predicted greasy conditions. This is bread and butter for light small forwards.
-
My ins: Fritsch, Harmes, Lockhart, Bennell My outs: Hannan, Hibberd, Omac, Spargo I think we'll manage with two talls in defence and we'll need some quicker players and good users of the footy as it will be most likely slippery conditions. - Fritsch takes Hannan's place as 3rd tall - Harmes to replace Hibberd as our rebounding HBF - Lockhart in for Omac to lockdown on Papley (their most potent forward) - Bennell in to add a bit of class to replace Spargo or Pickett. Have a feeling Kozzie will be good in those conditions so I think Spargo will go out.

Interesting thoughts Will Turner... The way I see it Pruess is a first choice ruckman at about 10 or so AFL teams. GWS would happily part ways with Briggs knowing they will get a ruckman in his prime at 25 who's had the tutelage of Goldstein and Gawn. Two of the best rucks in the past decade. Ballard was a smokey but seeing as we really lack that 3rd defensive tall to assist May and Lever. I would be offloading our second rounder for him and more. Dunkley is mainly Inside mid and forward. He was only pushed to an outside role as we had our reserves stacked with inside mids also. Dunks is just your standard mid/fwd 185cm player... the most common player there is in footy circles. Bradtke has no killer instinct. something you need in AFL. He's too much of a Grammar school boy. Baker and KK contracted. Contracts mean nothing in this day in age. Anything can happen. Spargo does have neat skills and is a good user of the footy but too often doesn't show it. AFL is not a place where you can get by on talent alone. You need drive, killer instinct, skills to execute and to also play your role. ANB would be well suited to Adelaide. They need young experienced players. He will fit in perfectly at Adelaide. Personally I would be playing ANB as a winger with his Elite endurance and high pressure... but hey Goody sees him as a pressure forward. IMO he's been played in the wrong position his entire career.

Sandilands only had to tap in the centre bounce and follow up around the ground, he barely had to get out of 3rd gear given his height advantage. Perhaps a poor comparison on my behalf but what I meant is that heavier/bulkier players tend to slow up much more rapidly past their 30's. So we should see a Gawn keep playing to his mid 30's due to his lighter frame and good aerobic capacity.
-
I see him as another Sandilands. Gawn is quite lightly framed for a Ruckman so that should keep him pretty durable for years to come.
-
Trade options: Hunt - for a 3rd round pick. Lots of clubs would be interested in him given his speed, dash and courage. Pretty decent defender IMO. Pruess - Trade or swap for a younger ruckman possibly Briggs from GWS was one of the best ruckman in the draft in 2018 and went for a pick in the 30's. I can see Gawny playing for us for another 5 - 7 years so I'd think Preuss may realise this and move to a team like GWS where he can get more game time. They have Mumford and Jacobs which they'll only get a couple more years out of them. Spargo/ANB - We are just carrying too many vanilla small forwards in Spargo, ANB, C.Wagner, Chandler, Bedford. Our only decent smalls are Picket, Lockhart and Nev. Delist: Jones - Been cooked since 2018 (possibly rookie to get him to 300 on a dirt cheap salary) Wagner brothers - Need I say more Kolodjashnij - Medical Baker - Not a bad player just can't get enough of the ball Dunkley - We have lots of players like him and I haven't heard anything on him from the club all year. Bradtke - Showed potential but has been on the list for 3 years now I think and is now our last ruck option. Trade for: Ely Smith (Brisbane) - I watched some of his highlights in his draft year and looked like another Oliver with his freakish skills. Could be one to watch. Ballard (Gold Coast) - Would need to offer something pretty good to get him out of there, but he's been great in defence this year as a tall intercepting defender. Wright (Gold Coast) - Can't make the seniors with Day and King as the preferred talls. He would be better value than what T.Mac or Brown offer us currently. Caldwell (GWS) - Good inside/outside mid player, but can't consistently keep his place in the GWS side. Hately (GWS) - Highly rated mid will be good in a few years O'halloran (GWS) - Future leader, good overall mid Cumming (GWS) - Elite ball user with great pace (salem like) Briggs (GWS) - Could be a very good ruckman in a few years time and still only 20 years of age.

I thought the entire team went up once the restrictions were put in place. Initially the depth players were left behind. Agreed on Hunt, he's looking like trade bait right now which is a shame because we all know how good he can be.
-
He just came back from a broken foot a month ago and before that another foot injury that kept him out all of last year. He was one of our standout performers in the pre season prior to injury. I think you critique Vanders quite harshly. I don't see Baker knocking down the door to take his spot and Jones/Tomlinson has had no more impact on the wing than Vanders so for now he keeps his spot until we have a better option. Maybe Harmes or Hunt is the go?
-
Actually he gave away a free kick last week for pushing an opponent in the back while he was already down, and yesterday he ran through the mark. Were they brain fades? yes... but he'll learn from that. Jones was cooked 2 years ago, his impact on games these days are minimal and not even VFL standard. Vanders overcomes injury after injury and just needs a clean run at it. Cooked? hardly...
-
We've tried it once... and against the best team in the comp being Port. Play Weid and Jacko as our main tall forwards and let Tmac be out Utility mr. fix it. He plays forward, back, wing and ruck. Jones is virtually having no impact on the game at all so we might as well put Tmac in there instead. Atleast he is a marking option, decent field kick and can lay some tackles.
-
In: Gawn, Viney and Lockhart Out: Jones, Sparrow, Tomlinson I like Sparrow but he is taking up precious minutes in the midfield that we need to give to Gus and Viney. Harmes moves up field to the wing or forward line... take your pick with Jones and Tomlinson out. Lockhart takes Harmes spot in defence, allowing Rivers to retain his spot. People saying we can't have 3 tall forwards is bollocks... We can keep one of them on the bench leaving our 2 key forwards in play or rotating in the Ruck while Gawn is off for a spell.

POSTGAME: Rd 11 vs North Melbourne
Caligula's cohort replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Gee that should of been an 80 point demolition tonight... No thanks to those Umpires (Umpire 31 really had it in for us tonight! a melbourne player must of slept with his wife). Fantastic effort by Oliver and Trac with Lever mopping everything up in defence. Spargo's ball use inside 50 was fantastic, he was involved in several score chains and his side kick Kozzi looking just as dangerous. How good is Jacko!!! looking forward to another decade with him dominating games for the Dees. -

Spargo giving Bennell a lesson on how to play in the forward line. Spargo will keep his spot next week by the looks of it! -
I was the first to call Lockhart to miss this game, i'm surprised they didn't bring in Nev as his direct replacement as a lockdown small defender but i'm happy to see Rivers get another game as has great dash with a good leg. I would of preferred Bedford over Spargo, but i'm not sure he travelled with the team. Looks like a pretty settled team overall. I'm interested to see what impact Brayshaw will have with extended minutes in the midfield. We need to beat these mongrels... they've owned us for too long!!! Go Demons!!
-
In: Pickett, Bedford, Rivers, Nev Out: ANB, Bennell, AVB, Lockhart ANB - Suspended Bennell - Lack of physicality, aggression, no run, chase or tackling (soft?) AVB - Injury Lockhart - looked a bit ginger in the towards the end of the game. He's had a few big knocks the past couple of weeks.
-
I'd like to see a 'Preuss and Jacko' combo... less predictable for our mids, which may help them win a few more clearances without getting sliver service from Gawn.
-
Essenden are in the hunt for a big bodied mid. They have Shiel, Merrit, Devon Smith and McGrath who are all around that 180cm mark. Perhaps they would offload their 1st rounder for Brayshaw.
