I think giving the Dees a Priority Pick would be a great thing for AFL trade week. The MFC are ready to bring in the required players to make them competitive, and I cannot see Roos and Co sitting on an extra pick. If we land pick 2, 3(compo) and lets say an end of the 1st rounder, I can see the dees parting with 2 of these 3 picks to make some big deals happen. We are not a free agency destination for players, so I think the easiest way to improve is going to be on the trade table. The dees will be aggressive come trade week, and extra pick helps the dees talk about more deals, which will grease the wheel for trade week.

I watched the game and found Dom Barry okay when he was involved in the play. He ran hard both ways, was part of a few useful linking plays out of the backline and used it well when he got it. He looked lost at times, yet other times read the play well. Look, he has a long way to go, but the fact he started on the ground and was odds on to be subbed and wasn't (that honor went to Bail) shows he is progressing.Given he signed a new deal, I was happy to see some of the progress the club obviously sees with him. Gawn must play the final 3 rounds. I think the Russian's best football is now behind him, and I think he might have one year left in the tank, two at best. That leaves the cupboard bare for ruck prospects outside of Gawn. He needs to be thrust into the #1 ruck role sooner rather than later. Outside of Gawn there are some question marks of Spencer and Fitzy, and King is miles off. If Gawn isn't ready for the #1 job by the end of next season we are going to struggle moving forward. Jetta gave Puopolo a bath! If he had played 20 rounds this year he would be a lock for an AA backman.

1. McKenzie, Evans, Fitzy all under contract next year..............so count them off the "clean out list" 2. Frawley is gone, and he will win a flag before Melbourne does. 3. Round 21 Demons V GWS could be another "Kruezer Cup" type scenario with the winner avoiding the spoon and the loser cast aside to battle percentage with the lowly Saints (depending on the Saints V Dogs result in Round 20 of course, the Saints could pinch that one meaning the loser of Dees v GWS could take the spoon)

I think this is reflective of the fact we probably don't have an even contribution across all players each week. It is the same guys putting in every week, with other guys putting in every now and then. We need more guys winning their position on the ground to stop these horror 10-15 min stretches where we score nothing and the opposition pours on a few unanswered goals. Happens far too often for a defensively minded side. They just fade, and before we know it 10 minutes of play in a quarter has sealed our fate.

Wish him the best in retirement. Wouldn't be surprised to see the dees chase another veteran signature to help lead the list.

Personally I would hate another spoon. Sick of the club not being taken seriously and a spoon won't help our cause.

Make a bold prediction for the remainder of the season..

Georgiou to team up with Rowan Atkinson for new tv series "Son of Mr Bean" -
With Barry, they like what they see, and that is good enough for me. I was surprised, but then again he was selected ahead of Blease, Tappy, Michie so something Dom is doing the club likes. T-Mac was an essential signing. Everyone knows that Frawley will test the market and will get what he wants outside of Melbourne, meaning we will probably be moving forward without him. To lose T-Mac and Chip in the same year would have been too much to overcome. This signing gives us stability down back and options to draft another key defender to groom. Glad to see T-Mac back.

Tough year to be out of contract. Big Mitch is gone, Frawley will look to cash in elsewhere and I am sure the axe won't miss many uncontracted players. At this stage of the season anyone out of contract that hasn't put pen to paper probably wont be coming back. I can see the Demons being active again during trade season. A player who is not in Roos' plans will be offered at the trade table if under contract, so he can move forward with this list. I get the impression Roos patience is wearing rather thin with parts of our list.

Very important player for us. No so much about what he brings on the field, but his drive and competitiveness off the field. Our young guys have a lot to learn from Daniel Cross. Still in our best 22, sign him up.

Judd for a year? Computer says no.

Prior to Roos coming on board many thought Melbourne's issues were to do with the quality of coaching more than the quality of the list. Roos has made massive strides, but not even the great Paul Roos can drag this mob out of the bottom 4. Given the league has seen where we stand with a good coach, perhaps the football public might have more questions about the list rather than the coaching. If that is the case, perhaps an application for a priority pick would be looked upon more favorably now that we have a great coach, and are still performing like a B-Grade football team. As for St Kilda, they have many more years of pain ahead of them before they can stick their hand up for help. Not too long ago they were a regular finals participant.

Daniel Cross has a been a huge loss. His leadership on field is being sorely missed, as his his tenacity around contested footy and his tackles against key opposition. We have not been able to replace that, and it appears some of the younger guys feed of his leadership in the middle. Reality is this was NOT ever a winnable game on the fixture, and although we were embarrassed I am surprised so many supporters are surprised given the quality of Freo's list Vs our own. Moving on, we need to look at who we can get into the side to stop some of the skill errors and turnovers.

The Run Home - Race for the spoon
Adzman replied to red and blue forever's topic in Melbourne Demons
Saints have the spoon covered..............but we will get them a run for their money! I think we can take the Brissie game, but GWS might give us some trouble. -
Bad luck after some solid form. Jetts will be hard to replace.

All players on the fringe of a premiership contender should be looked at. Tom Mitchell has some talent, and would be a handy addition. Sydney rate him, so he won't come cheap. Depends on what our list management identify as a need. If a Mitchell type is on their list I imagine they would try and work something out.
-
Casey have made 7 finals series in a row................not a bad effort. Melbourne hasn't played finals for about that long, so If you want a chance at a flag you are better off pulling on a Scorps jumper than a dees jumper based on what both sides have produced over the past decade. Like all VFL clubs, you can turn it around. Give them a couple of years to rebuild, I think it will work out okay for both clubs.
-
Tom is a legitimate prospect. I am happy to put up with some poor kicks and decisions while he grows as a footballer. I think he is worth investing in.
-
Chip is a gun, and there would be 17 other list managers other than ours that would like him on their list. Chip has been a shining light down back for years, and all of a sudden he is a surplus defender? We must have short memories. If Chip leaves because he wants to then whatever pick we get is what we get. Chip is the real deal, the 18 year old selected with a compo pick is not guaranteed to make it at the top level. Better the ghosts you know than the ones you don't know.

Be interested to see how JKH goes after being dropped.

Tommy Mac ticks most of the boxes when it comes to young backmen. Sure his kicking needs work and he often gets caught trying to do too much, overall his pros far outweigh his cons. My biggest concern with Tommy Mac is that his contract situation seems to be up in the air. I am not sure where his head is at in relation to extending his tenure with the demons. I hope he stays, he has some great footy ahead of him.

Slamming Sam says take QB Monday game off Melbourne
Adzman replied to bush demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sam is more of a joke than a football personality these days. Those lamb ads are awful. The AFL has invested time building the qb rivalry, seems silly to pull the pin as the dees start to heat up. When the dees and pies are both looking like finals contenders it won't matter how many goals are scored because the match will draw 85k patrons. -
That is the hard thing with trading. There is the on-field stuff that we all analyse to the last degree, giving us a good indication of the players on-field abilities. Then there is the off-field stuff, that media, fans tend to speculate about. The off-field stuff is what separates a Nate Jones and a Colin Sylvia. Their nous, ability to keep focused, their impact on other team mates and their ability to be coached and execute set plans. This is why I leave the trading up to those in football circles. The off-field stuff is why great potential can rarely develop.

Depends how often you buy a jumper. If you want to be wearing one for a long while, I can't see Jack Viney wanting to wear any other colours in his career. #7 for me.

Cam Pederson was a player I had on my cut list at the end of the season. We couldn't move into 2015 without him. Roos is more than a coach, he is a mentor, a leader and knows more about this game than most that have played it.
