How many players can we possibly cut in one off-season? Bucks gets one more year IMO. The game is all about harnessing pace these days, and he has pace to burn!

Would Take Miller over Newton any day of the week!!
-
It would be a nice feeling. I am content to have that as out only win for the season. This collingwood side is not as strong as some may think, and may crumble against an up and coming demons side. We will go in underdogs, which is a good thing!

My Old man went down to check out the game, and stated Bennell looks like a good sort. Also stated Rivers is gaining some good touch, and will be a cornerstone for us if he stays fit in 2009.

Seeing our kids take some more steps forward is what we need. Last season was great seeing the future of the backline emerge. Seeing a few more midfielders and some forwards develop gives us something to look forward to. If we lose I can deal with it, as long as we don not get smacked by 80 odd points every odd week. A dignified loss would help us gain some more respect, and would indicate we could steal the odd win should a team underestimate us.

He looks like Napoleon Dynamite, that is all I know about him other than he is freakin huge! If he can solve our ruck problems (face facts, mees is a bum, and jamar does little around the ground to warrant him being our Number one prospect going forward) then we have just hit oil! If he can help out PJ and win the ruck for us, we may just be a little more competitive than most think.

Would rather Barassi be our number one ticket holder than some bum TV actor or completely clueless celeb.

I have been high on Newton for a few years now. I hoping he could be an elite forward for years to come. I still am, that aside I am worried he may have blown his chances at AFL level. 2008 should have been his year, and it was anything but. 2009 is going down the same path, and with a side as weak as we have it should be as easy as pie for a guy with his size and talent to shine through and win some fan love. This is not the case. Seems disinterested, a tad lazy and scared of a contest. I hope this changes, because the truth is there is not anyone on the demons list that is ready to pin down the role at FF with Robbo out. Jurrah and Watts are not ready, and will be given time to adjust. PJ is an agile man, could do the trick but he may be wasted down there. Bater is too good a mark, and should be used up the ground for a contest. Miller is solid, but cannot kick goals like a FF should. Better him be further out from goal.

Great coaches are usually ex footballers. Ex footballers are not known for their literacy skills nor are they expected to write a best selling novel. He can reel off as many [censored] cliches as he likes as long as he can get this football team up, running and winning again. The players believe in him, and that is what is needed for this group to start winning. Will take some time, he is the right man to do it.

Nice to see that Big Spenny has got game. I would love for some deadwood to be cleared so these guys could have a run. If meese really has a condition, there is no way known he will be given a jumper considering the insurance complications involved in playing him. Promoting Spenny in his place could be a good thing for the future. As for Valenti, I am sure he ans Spencer will get a run at some stage, I can't recall a season where we have made it though without a long term injury to one of our top players. Sylvia is hot and cold. He needs to stay fit and build some form. He still has some room to grow, and should be given every chance to even though he has the odd clunker. He is a required player at this stage.

I like the movement forward to reconnect with our heritage. The grand heritage of a winning culture and strong and proud football club. Maybe if it catches on people will start to see how important this club was to our national game, and how important that this club remains viable in the future. Fingers crossed the club can once again establish itself as a premier football club.

No Warnock, Prismall, CJ, Hislop, Nick Nat, etc
Adzman replied to Courtney_Fish's topic in Melbourne Demons
Even though we missed out on a few mature players we are still in a stronger position than we were 6 months ago. it would have been great to get something for return for cj, but that is how carlton operate, under the table. With some strong draftees and some smokeys, i think we came out alright. Given where we are as a club, we did exactly what we should have done. Look to go organic, and grow our own talent. We will need to do the same again next season (although a lot harder given the draft break up). I think we have done enough to inject some hope going forward, which is all we as supporters can really ask for. The best thing is, they have opted for the long term fix, not the short term fix (like jetting in a jonathan brown). -
Blease & Strauss are CRITICAL to the Club's improvement
Adzman replied to Cranky Franky's topic in Melbourne Demons
Every pick we made is critical, as we were not even competitive last season. We need to grow some very good footballers, some blue and white collar ones. A mate of mine (Hawks supporter) thinks Blease is a cracker as he watched him this year. Swears he should have gone first round. This fills me with some confidence, he could be a future club champion. Strauss looked good, and could be anything. They say Bail is ready to go being a mature age draftee. He could add some depth, or even carve out a senior spot for his own. The real win will be if the indigenous boys can come through and tear the afl apart. Jurrah, Jetta and Bennell could be anything, from a wasted pick to a league sensation. You just never know. Flash came off the rookie list, and changed that game. I would say given the state of the club, and the picks being critical for the clubs future, the future looks to be in good hands. Great hands? time will tell. -
WELCOME BACK TO DEMONLAND - DANNY HUGHES
Adzman replied to Pinball Wizard's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am just going to come out and say this. I liked Danny Hughes the first time around, but sensed there was something a bit off about his game. If it were injuries, he could turn out to be a ripper now that he is fit. If not, at least we went down that path to see what was there. He might really go hard, as this is his last chance to make it as a professional footballer. Good Luck to him. -
Sibosado - Possible Pre-Season #1 Draft Pick from 2008
Adzman replied to Tex's topic in Melbourne Demons
Watched the footage, he is good, i think the problem is he is aware of this. Playing against men in the afl requires a little more than natural talent. That aside, I think he could be useful at an AFL level with the right mentoring (wheels/flash) and coaching (bails). PSD is usually a waste of time unless you get lucky, may as well roll the dice again and see if we can get another Davey like gem. I dont see too many other standout options on the table, so i am behind rolling the dice on this one and seeing where it takes us. -
Martin turned out to be a diamond in the rough. He is showing glimpses of being a very capable sort at this level. As for the draft history, it does tell us that it is rare to find someone who will be worth hanging onto for more than a season or two. Martin is an exception to the rule.

Ruckman take some time to develop, and this kid sounds like he is worth developing. I think given the need for young ruckman, he will go top 15. IF he is available when the dees priority and/or second round pick comes up, he could be wearing the red and blue considering we missed out on Warnock. Will be interesting to see how the kid goes in the AFL, at 17 it could be a few years before he asserts his dominance on the game. Also important to note, drafting a 17yo WA kid could have "trade me home I miss mummy and daddy" written all over it. We cannot afford this at the MFC, that said, we must take the best available player at each stage in the draft if we are going to have a future.
-
Back to the topic of Tom Hislop. With a few clubs vying for his services, would you think a 2-3 years deal (we are basing this on the length of deal, not the $ amount) would be enough to sway him to come to the MFC? If he nominates for the ND, I suppose he has no choice if his name comes up when we are drafting. If he nominates for the PSD, I suppose he can put a price tag on his head, which could take us out of the running. Would the 2-3 year deal turn his head? I don't think he would be commanding too much dosh on the open market, perhaps the length of stay is what he is after as he allegedly turned down a 1 year deal. I know Hislop has been deemed a "bad egg". but he is the only player I can actually see being of service out of the 2008 delistees.
-
Hey Beavis....this sucks. I was keen on Hislop coming across to the dees. He looks like he will be retained by the bombers. We have Danny Hughes training with us, which is interesting because unless he has found a bucket load more footy smarts, and some toughness, there is no way known he will make it on our list. I think he is a talent, just not strong enough ot make it based on passed performances back in the day. #1 pick in the PSD is about as valuable as a half eaten snickers bar and a warm juice box. Nice of us to land it on a year where uncontracted talent is at an all time low!!!!
-
Every player deserves a second chance, and few get it. At 20 years old, I think he should be thrown a lifeline by the MFC. Would be happy to use pick 51 to land him if he were to nominate.
-
CJ was a bit player at best. I liked him, thought he could be handy for us, but he is not a big loss. Those losing sleep over it should place their head in the sand until the upcoming draft. The dees did all they could, we are cash strapped and we reached out and gave him the best we could (2 years is no more than he deserves). He had other plans, he turned his back on us, I do not wish him the best elsewhere. I hope he suffers the scrutiny from other supporters for clogging up their list and salary cap.- It does happen, and he will have all eyes on him. CJ should have done the right thing by the club and came out and said he was out from day one. We could have at least made a trade (late pick) then get zilch. He is worth more than a late pick, but a late pick is worth more than nothing! CJ showed his true colours........ hey were not red and blue......just lots of green (moolah).
-
Would rather pick up a used condom with my bare hands than draft Shane Briss. NO THANKS!
-
I CALLED THIS ON OCTOBER THE FIRST, AND EVERYONE THOUGHT I WAS RAVING MAD! I got wind of this late september, so for all those doubters, go back and check my post on the first of October!!!!!! He is worth a look, as we are rebuilding and could use the talent. He may be a loose cannon but a delisting should wisen him up a tad. He is a surefire pick in the PSD, and I would have no problem taking a risk with the first pick in the PSD.

Carlton may be playing hardball, they certainly are not making any allies on the trade table. Mark my words, when carlton is not on the positive end of a trade deal like they have been the last few season, they are going to cop one mighty shafting up the poo tube for their dealings over the past few seasons. What goes around comes around. WC, and now Freo will not be doing them any favors in the next decade.
-
There is NO WAY known he will be leaving Carlton. Carlton "have cap room" don't forget. He will be well looked after at Carlton, and he will sign a nice 3-4 deal no doubt about it. Even if he wanted to leave Carlton, his asking price is most likely out of our price range. It is nice to dream, but the truth is the MFC is about as attractive a destination as the war torn middle east. Marc will not be joining us in 09.
