  1. On the Hillborough Tragedy - I saw a doco on it on the ABC about it, and there is a newspaper that they refused to sell in Liverpool because of its support for the 'official' side of the story. IIRC it was a big Murdoch paper.
  2. Whatever the kicking style... I loved him kicking the goal off the ground and instead of celebrating he looked at his hands, shook his head and swore. He will be fine. A man like that won't let himself go backwards.
  3. That or he's gonna say that his kicking style is to get him a gig on 'Dancing with the stars'
  4. Agreed. I thought he was looking at a week, maybe two, when I first saw it. I know it wasn't anything dirty, but the head is sacrosanct these days. If it had have been me I'd take the fine and then party like I'd just won the lottery.
  5. David King went on record as saying that there was no way that Geelong could win the flag in 2011 around round 16 of that year. Now I get 'up hill battle' or 'cards stacked against them' or 'aging list will find it hard'. But definitive statements like that are the realm of fools. I'm still waiting for him to say something smart to get a little bit of credibility back. Not holding my breath though.
  6. Dunno why some people are writing off Omac and Wagner. Yeah, they were sloppy at times but the knew where the ball was and went in hard. Not all players adjust to the pace of AFL in their first couple of games. Give them 2 years. If the sloppiness is still there then we can say goodbye, but I think that they will become servicable players.
  7. Geez, how about 2 years ago we would have gone down by 10 once they kicked away in the third. Forget who wasn't there and enjoy that for two games in a row the lads dug deep when all seemed lost; and then found a way to win. Yeah, yeah.. Nab... blah blah etc I'm not expecting a GF or even a final, but it's nice to see the boys keep at it when all seems lost... no matter the opposition. Something that has been lacking for many years. It ain't Xmas, but it sure as hell isn't doomsday.
  8. It is what it is, and it's not new. It's just more pronounced these days. I try not to worry about it. When they were the red and blue they matter. When they don't then they don't. Put it this way: every trade season we all cry out that we want to poach an A grader from somewhere. We went hard after Dangermouse and no-one cried that we were ruining the game by doing so. I don't see anyone whining that we are unethical chasing Dion. Quite the opposite... we all rub our hands in glee. Anyway, we'll offer Jesse a very good contract and he'll accept it on the basis he likes his teammates and the direction of the club, or reject it because he doesn't see anything worth getting fired about... or he might think we are a great club and loves his mates here but simply wants to go home... either way money wont be the issue because I reckon we'd match whatever offer he was given, if only for the marketing angle.
  9. Good. It won't help us playing their reserves.
  10. And they are well aware that while they sell papers, get clicks, get ratings today, that it will be a long time before they are proved right or wrong. The goldfishbowl public won't remember what they were told 12 months from now.
  11. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't care one way or the other if that happened
  12. Chose Trenners - for obvious reasons - but what I really want to see is Brayshaw go up a level. I think there is something really special about that kid.
  13. I wanna see that purple headed monkey ask him that question face to face... Yeah, I'm evil
  14. Men and woman are dragged screaming onto the rocks of their own desires... Dunno who made the quote, but I saw it 20 odd years ago and it's been something I've seen proved time and time again.
  15. I drew X's over the ones that are gone. Now I can't see my computer screen.
  16. I was being generous when I said 5. They have hurt themselves in ways we can't even begin to understand. We've all played team sports (i assume) and know how fragile and fleeting team bonding can be. It's not a tap you can turn off and on. Essendon might have a couple of moments where they look like they they have it together but like us and Carlton over the last years (or Richmond since whenever), they will fall back to the default of players looking after themselves, coaches that only care about the win this week, and an admin that no-one in the club really trusts regardless of the party line.
  17. I reckon I have a better chance of winning the Norm Smith than Essendon has of playing finals in the next 5 years
  18. Yes, Jack probably went overboard. But on the on the other hand I love his 'you've got my ball! Give it back!' mentality. I dunno. Maybe the quote by the Duke of Wellington talking about his own troops sums it up: "I don't know what effect these men will have on the enemy, but by God, they terrify me"
  19. I don't think we will miss him or his broken hand
  20. Run like hell then kick it long to the wing/chf area without looking if there is a player there waiting for it... Pretty much the same role he always has had. (ahhh... yeah. Not a fan. Never was. Cant see that changing)
  21. That, my friend, is gold.
  22. He only brings this up now because they are on the slide and have been for a while. He's a passionate supporter - and I get that coz I am too - but lets see if he is flying that flag if Collingwood are a regular top 4 again
  23. Probably best 10 if he is that way. I think many here forget just how sleek he was as a youngster- good overhead, finds space, tackles hard, wins the hard ball, picks the right option.. etc We remember him as not being to run out of sight on a dark night, but forget the 1% stuff he did while not having spring or speed. He is a very talented lad that just needs his body to let him show it. I wish him all the best for many reasons, but most of all: (1) He was the captain of our club. No matter what you think of him or what has happened he deserves respect for that (2) He is a nice bloke. He didn't ask for this or any of the other [censored] that came with it. For nothing else cut him a break for that (3) If he can make it back we have a freebie gun. A ready made mature that can beat 9 out of 10 opponents players to go on top of the kids we have Fingers crossed here.
