Agreed but I don’t think Sydney will be keen on giving a first round pick back. If they really want Daniher Essendon will want two first round picks. I still think splitting the pick will get the job done. I’m quietly confident we can land Basil Papley. If we get Tomlinson, Langdon, Papley and still have a pick in the first round we’ve done very well.

Interesting how now that we’ve missed out on Elliott, Papley isn’t just looking at Carlton.

He’s kicked 120 goals in 4 seasons after being taken as a rookie and will only get better. We have a serious lack of small forwards and one of the worst forward lines in the game. I think Papley would address our deficiencies very well.

If we split pick 3 I’d use one of the new picks on Papley and retain the other for the draft, I wouldn’t use pick 3 on him. But it doesn’t matter because he’s nominated Carlton so that’s where he’ll end up.
