Players to target at the end of the year
hulkhogan666 replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
I wouldn't call our midfield the worst, but certainly ain't the best. The thing is we have young mids that are still learning (barring the obvious N Jones, Cross, Vince), guys like Tyson, Viney, Salem, blah blah, will only get better. It's not like we have a mature aged midfield and they aren't doing the job, our case at the moment is that we have a young midfield that are starting to tire. In a few years we'll have a ripper midfield, just you watch. -

Dangerfield, still contracted for next year but Adelaide may trade him so they get something back instead of him leaving next year as a free agent. I don't care how, but get it done MFC. -

We have lost 5 games this year under 20 points, every other game we lost was under 40 points (barring the WCE game), so coming from where we were that's great. if that doesn't tell you improvement then you have rocks in your head. -
Can't forget Cross
-
Exactly. We were losing on a constant basis by huge margins, as I said, you take away the Eagles match and we haven't lost above 40 points this year. We've had big improvements but we're still not a great team.
-
Um we have more Saturday games than Sunday games this year... Before the Essendon match we hadn't played on a Sunday since the GC game in Round 5.
-
If we didn't get a priority pick with 2 wins and constant 60+ point losses in one season, how can we get one with 4 wins and take out the Eagles game, we haven't lost a match above 40 points?

Am seriously looking forward to f'k'ng off our list cloggers for some actual decent talent.

I'm really loving the idea of having the compo for Chip right now. In saying that, trade one of our first picks for someone or draft two guns? (obviously if Chip goes) -

If we get Vickery for cheap (say... 3rd rounder?) then whatever, if Roos makes him into a gun then good for us, if he's still the dud that he is currently then delist him at the end of his tenure. Even though I can't stand him one bit... -

Third rounder wouldn't hurt, surely he can take someone like Nicholson's spot. -

Ahem, Bulldogs? You can't tell me people go to their games just to see Griffen, Cooney... -

Nah I do agree with you, Hawthorn do have depth, with 5-7 of their champion players out they brought in depth players, they have been tested but they still get the job done. As for our depth, we have VFL players at best, with Strauss, Nicholson, Tapscott even. There's a few that can improve I reckon such as Michie (who still is very young and been injured most of his career), Evans, and even Blease. I reckon Jones will too, as he did earlier in the year against Murphy and did a spectacular job. Best thing about when he's the tagger, he still gets his own ball also. I also agree that we lack genuine class, we all know this and so does Roosy, that's why I won't be shocked if we go for a gun such as Dangerfield (which I hope we do because he's practically my favourite player in the comp). -

That, AND depth. When we have our best 22 we have a solid midfield, not great, still could use class and speed as you say, but it's solid. Now that Cross and McKenzie are out for this week (Cross for the next 4-6 weeks) we're going to struggle in bringing other guys in who can genuinely tag, not just that, but guys who can actually fill best 22 players spots. For example Hawthorn, with all their injuries they have at the moment they still win most weeks, and when they lost to Port/Swans, it wasn't by much, they keep winning because they have great depth who can fill spots to a degree until injured players are no longer injured. We're just lucky that Bulldogs will be without Gia, Cooney and most likely even Griffen. But Cross will hurt us because he's been in great form all year. -

Evans/Fitzy contracted for next year. Blease/McKenzie/Nicholson are not, could find themselves delisted. -

Yeah I was thinking that, luckily they have them three out, if they weren't we could've been in trouble. At least Jordie will be back to tag one of the elite Freo mids. -

No, doesn't make him glorious though. As I said, what has he done since then? F all. Even my best mate who bleeds yellow and black hates him. -

What's he done since that whopping 36 goal season? Sounds a bit like sweet f all. If him being dropped this year due to poor form at Richmond FFS doesn't indicate anything, then I'm not sure what does. -

So McKenzie (only this week) and Cross out for 4-6 weeks. Two of our taggers. Who to bring in to tag now? -

For a 'forward', he's quite easily one of the worst that I've ever seen. We need an established forward, a backman who can f'k'n kick, and mids mids mids. -

Do NEVER mention that spud again please. -
How many games has Lyons played this year? Vince has proved much more than just a pick up for us. Do you eat your words now?
-
I just wonder how many bloody weeks our forwards can get held onto until the umps crack down on it, Collingwood maggots were holding onto us all day, same with Bombers, and North, absolute disgrace. So many missed free's too with in the back. The umps must hate us or something.
