  1. So just to be clear, when he is assaulted he is not entitled to defend himself, or he is not entitled to be out in nightclubs? Or both?

Saying that the fact he is not the instigator is "besides the point" purely because he's a sportsman is, on its own, a crazy thing to say.

I was present when he king hit Roh Bail at Princes Park, so I don't think I'm in any position to question his account of his part in a 5 am nightclub brawl. Definitely deserves the benefit of the doubt.

  2. I don't believe we'll be messing about at the bottom of the list to gain a minimal advantage and annoy the whole list.

Jetta will be upgraded, bet the rent. Jack T will go LTL - pushing him to the rookie list would be rightly seen as callous.

There would have to be some mighty good rookies out there for us to write off our investment in Georgiou, Harmes and King, unless someone has a reasoned case for calling them list-clogging spuds. Add a new rookie and let them all vie for the available promotion.

I recall writing something similar a couple of days ago, but sometimes the obvious takes time.

  3. My only comment: "only circumstantial evidence" is a phrase that implies that circumstantial evidence is second-rate evidence. Direct evidence is often unavailable - no eye witnesses, no blood tests, no records - but direct evidence can be "lost", destroyed or intimidated. Very many completely sound criminal convictions have been obtained on the basis of circumstantial evidence alone. "Beyond reasonable doubt" is a phrase that means that the balance of probabilities is very powerfully one way - BRD and BOP are not mutually exclusive, but points on a continuum.

  4. Would love to have brought in a star midfielder, but all hope of that went with Trenners' navicular. Two very good trades and we retained 2, 3 and 23 in a deep draft. Roos will have plenty to work with; our younger players and blokes like Michie and Pigdog will certainly benefit from the pre-season, and Hogan is virtually a new recruit. Bound to be a better 2015.

  5. I'm betting that he'll stay on the senior list for next year but on the LTIL.

Seems the obvious way to go. We're already upgrading Jetta and Georgiou is ready in case of a defender going LTI, so the other rookies will know that good form at Casey can lead to an upgrade at any time. If Jack is clear at the end of the year he can get a contract extension, either a year or longer with an availability clause.

  6. I don't know how many times I've asked this but I'm 99% confident you can't delist and pay out a fit and healthy player against there will. There contract is for money but it's also for opportunity of being on an AFL list.

I had heard talk that Evans would consider a package to step away from the list but at the same time his form in 2013 earnt him a two year deal and that means we are lumped with him if he so chooses and no club wants him in a trade.

If MFC offered to pay Evans out and he insisted on remaining on the list, the only beneficiaries would be Casey 2s.

  7. We have gone through the list of disasters that have occurred before on this board countless times. I see no need to do so again.

Could not agree more. The expectation that things will go badly because they always have flies in the face of the most recent evidence. Many posters - I won't name any today - obviously get off on pouring scorn from the heights of a self-constructed dunghill.

  8. Gone Girl. Bitter and twisted, which I thoroughly enjoy, and a very strong cast. 2 1/2 hours is a bit long, and the end seems to drag out. Maybe a function of the novelist being the screenwriter - couldn't kill her babies. A warning to those who don't like plot holes - this thing is a colander. If you can ignore the defects, it's worth a visit.
