  1. If Essendon make him head coach, he'll stay. If not, is there a vacancy at another club? If it comes down to a choice between deputy to Hird or Roos, he won't think twice, especially if he is the designated successor - and they may do a deal for him to take over in 2016. I'm guessing he'll be head coach at Essendon next year.

  2. I agree Jack. Booing is completely childish and do we really want to put ourselves in the same category as Richmond supporters when their team is playing poorly? The players tried but too many errors unfortunately.

Indeed, and cheering is something children do, too. The proper behaviour for supporters is to sit quietly through wins and losses, meditating upon the evanescence of the universe within which "winning" and "losing" are mere illusions. And we could gently appreciate the way Jack Watts has replaced the tackle with the non-violent but intrusive cuddle.

  3. Just in regards to the lack of fight for Pedersen but im pretty sure I read last year on this board that a poster was at a MFC function and an unamed player mentioned that pedo isn't well liked by the group???

Be nice to know just which of their teammates they will go to bat for.

  4. Agree that Gawn, Blease and Georgoiu are ready for selection. Fitz, Toumpas and Tappy not too bad, Harmes promising.

Casey are scarcely playing as a team. Lots of turnovers, poor backing up, long kicks to contests. We don't have much in the cupboard.

Forgot to mention JKH. Of course he's ready too.

  5. I looked up cognitive dissonance - I am still none the wiser.

When you believe something so strongly that it is essential to your ideas about yourself and the world, direct evidence to the contrary - not merely the opinions of others - is disturbing and painful. This is the state Leon Festinger called cognitive dissonance. He studied members of a cult who believed a prophecy that the world would end on a given day and prepared by giving up their jobs, worldly goods and so on, then waited for the end. It didn't come on time. They were in a dreadful state - if the prophecy was wrong, they had not only lost their material possessions, but also their core belief system. They preserved their beliefs by deciding that the computation of the date had been wrong, their actions were justified, and they had only to wait for the new date.

Many Essendon supporters, though not all, believe so strongly in the goodness and superiority of their club that the mounting evidence of drug abuse and the dodgy behaviour of their club (i.e. loss of records, payoff to the coach who accepted "responsibility", etc. etc.) causes acute psychological discomfort. This is resolved by reasserting the core values and developing a conspiracy theory - "they" are out to get us, the process is crook so the evidence can be discounted, "they" do it themselves anyway. Then you turn up to the game waving a placard, "In Hird we trust", and yell loudly "Nah, nah, I can't hear you!" Of course, the new date for the end of the world eventually arrives.

  6. Because claiming there was racial abuse on here without reporting it to the MCC staff at the time is gutless. I'm also sick of people on here bagging the dees and their supporters and attacking each other in snide ways about silly little things like using capitals when frustrated, etc.

So, you've got more guts than most, you're not snide or petty, and internet etiquette is beneath you. Onya.

  7. "I am more than reasonable in my judgement of McKenzie. I am what you'd call an unbiased supporter of a club which can sometimes make you standout on a place like demonland.

Because of this, my view can be hard to acknowledge on a place where there's so much cognitive dissonance floating around. I've already said that McKenzie held Stanton well on the weekend without providing much himself.

Here's a take of a non-biased Melbourne supporter's view on those passages of play McKenzie was involved in:"

Delighted to have such a reasonable and unbiased view presented. Personally, I am quite biased, and I think your self-congratulation is full of it. And look up cognitive dissonance - if you want to sound educated, it's better to be so.

  8. This site seems to be more about dees supporters attacking other dees supporters. GET OVER IT!!!

Obvious extreme exaggeration. And if other Dee supporters ever behave badly at the game (hard to imagine, I know) I can't see why that shouldn't be mentioned. BELLOWING IN CAPS IS UNPERSUASIVE!!
