A coach is only as good as the playing group allows themselves to be. It's got nothing to do with Roosy that our second half of last season was an embarassment. Literally no other coach could've done a better job than Mr. Roos, in my opinion. The state of our list was miles from AFL standard until this year.

I think every year is a clean slate for our club, seeing as it's traditionally the first or second year of a new coach before we replace them and start over. Likewise with the turnover of players. The major difference is we have a coach and coaching group in charge now with runs on the board, so there's a semblance of competence for a refreshing change. Roos knows exactly what he's doing, and he's setting us up for long-term success (both in recruitment and drafting, where he's basically fixed 5 years of contemptible drafting over 2 off-seasons).

Comfortably rate Dunny above that hack Rance, yet the latter got the nod for All Australian. Can't imagine why.

Our backline is stacked as far as I'm concerned. There's barely enough room for our best defenders and recruits at once. The forward line is the obvious problem, and we desperately needed to fix that in the last trade period. Garlett was a great outcome, and Petracca (although young) will likely start at FF or HF, hopefully providing another target. Get Hogan on the park and expect natural improvement from Kent/JKH and we have a semblance of a forward line at last. That said, next year we really need to target another key forward because our depth is simply not good enough. We're stacked with developing mids but not forwards.

On Judd, certainly had a chuckle reading today's AFL article about how he's "training the house down." Means nothing when he does yet another hammy in round one. Maybe he can just chicken wing tackle players instead.

They're certainly emulating our idiotic decision to turf out their list's experienced players en masse in favour of youth. Was disastrous for us. Could care less if it's similarly catastrophic for them.

What we don't know yet is whether (and it seems highly likely) free agency will have a drastic and highly negative impact on the natural cycle of teams going up and down the ladder. If anything, the MFC are the true anomalies, permanently glued at the bottom of the spectrum. 14th, 16th, 16th, 12th, 13th, 16th, 17th, 17th. No other team has been that ingrained on the bottom of the ladder, and it's history of our own making.

I think people forget how young Tom is. He's been scary good in some games and he's only entering his fifth year. He's bloody disciplined for his age, and shows fantastic leadership. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in the LG this year following the departure of Frawley.

Frawley at his best is a great defender. He was also frustratingly lazy, and his pathetic defending cost us that Bulldogs game because he let an 18 year old find space metres from goal.

Pick 23 was probably overs for Frost alone, but the deal worked out great in the end with O-Mac and ANB also coming from the trade. Talls always take longer to develop, so it'll be great to see Frost learn off MacDonald and Lamumba over the next few years. A really exciting prospect.

Further reiterates that he really is just an attention seeking grub. Anyone with half a brain under that much pressure would just put their head down and get on with it without drawing attention to themselves. After all, wasn't the whole point of moving to Geelong to "get away from it all" so he could focus on recovery in peace? He's drawing attention to himself to gain sympathy (a common trait with depression) with zero care for the feelings of the MFC supporters he so brazenly [censored] over.

Yep, seems like a quiet but really great bloke. Really hoping he can get a clear run at it and break back into the team.

Wonder where he'll head after Geelong finally fall in a heap, once their premiership players finally drop off the perch.

I always appreciate training reports from supporters that spend their free time watching the boys train, but I can live without the constant references to conversations had with, seemingly, every player and coach working for the MFC. Especially when it's readily apparent that many questions cross a line and are given the response they deserve. Would feel less uneasy if MFC players had an absolute focus on their training regime, structures and retention of Roosy's gameplan, rather than discussing Arsenal's latest loss. Was particularly perturbed by the probing of Michie on Wednesday, about an issue he clearly did not want to discuss. I certainly wouldn't walk up to a complete stranger in another workplace and ask what their problem is, if they looked upset.

We still don't know if Garland beat his PB because we've got no times. Nor how far off the mark he is compared to previous years.

Wouldn't round one be a "pretty good target" for every player in every team in the AFL, injury history or not? Sounds like an empty, vague quote from Scott (hardly unexpected). Let them keep building up the pressure cooker on Clark; he's shown he can't handle it when push comes to shove.

I'm sure he's got a very clear picture in his head of who he expects will line up round one (obvious ones like N. Jones, Dunn, T-Mac, Lamumba, etc.), but plenty can change between now and April. The round one team will be genuinely fascinating if the group continues training this hard and pushing each other to secure their spot in the squad. Once they're in they'll be staying there until their form drops off AND someone else shows more promise at Casey. Been a long time since that's been the case for the MFC.

I imagine Roos will be treating 2015 as a fresh start for the whole team. No walk-up starts. He's really pushing the players hard in the pre-season to see who he gets the best improvement from. Last year it was Pedo, this year it could be anyone.

Pendles is a lot like our own cap, body very rarely fails him. For my own personal satisfaction, I hope Collingwood implode to an extent for a few years. Yes, I'm just vindictive when it comes to the Filth.

My bad, only skimmed the article. Shouldn't set him back too far then, but Filth supporters will be expecting him to kick 3 goals a game from round one.

Now the next great white hope for Collingwood, Darcy Moore, is off the tracks for 3 months. Collingwood might just really struggle next year. Their list is a mix of very old and very young, with not much talent in-between. And continuing tensions between players and coach are never conducive to a successful team environment. But anyway, I'd rather talk about the filth than this filthy bastard, whom I'll happily never see in our proud colours again. He's shown him low character for the whole footy world to see; Geelong can have him. Hope he never plays another game.

He dislocated his patella on the 19th Dec, so I doubt he's conditioned right now to run the time trials.

JKH finishing 21 seconds after T-Mac is a brilliant result for a second year player. Positively rapt for the kid, he's clearly worked his ass off since last season ended, both on weights and endurance. Have a feeling he'll hit the ground running from round 1.
