  1. Gotta say, Richmond's inactivity really surprises me. I know they gelled and got their [censored] together in the last half of the year, but they were atrocious for the first half. Did they really come out of the Port Adelaide final satisfied with their list? Similarly don't think West Coast are much chop. Flat track bullies.
  2. Tappy, Strauss, Blease, McKenzie, Evans all delisted I'd guess. Hopefully there's a Riley-esque DFA Roos has in mind... better disposal would help.
  3. Then you put a fat contract under the nose of players you want, have them nominate you, and give their club appropriate currency (which we had in spades this year). Just as GWS got Griffen, Brisbane got Beams, Bulldogs got Boyd, etc. These clubs didn't approach one another and ask what was on offer for picks 2 and 3, they pursued the players directly. If we believe Mahoney, he said "nobody offered anything for picks 2 or 3." That's fine, but if we're so lackadaisical as to give up at that point rather than find other means to convince players to come, we're not going to get the players we need: developed midfielders. I'm not unhappy that we did a trade, but instead of panicking and giving up pick 23 for Frost & two late picks with 10 minutes to go, we could've bit the bullet and done this days ago then pursue other players with those later picks. As it stands, we left ourselves no time. We don't even have enough list spots to use 2 extra picks barring delistings of contracted players. Maybe Merrett, Membrey, Giles, etc. weren't interesting in coming to us, who knows. But we had the currency to get any of the 3, and two are ending up at clubs in (arguably) a worse position than us. In any case, if you're both right and we're simply just such an unattractive basket case of a club that nobody wants to come here, not for money nor playing opportunities nor Paul Roos, that doesn't paint a very optimistic picture of where this club is at.
  4. A tale of two halves. The part where we got Stretch for a 3rd rounder and Garlett for peanuts was 9/10. Giving up Clark for Lamumba, and not getting a 3rd rounder from Geelong in the process, was not ideal. 6/10 Then capping it off by bending over for GWS at the last minute, without lube. Left us absolutely no time to do anything with those picks, and seemed a completely rushed decision because we panicked at the last moment. I doubt we have anyone specific in mind that late in the draft. Picks 40 and 53 had a lot more currency in trades... this trade period showed you can still get good players with those picks. Merrett for 40, maybe even cut St Kilda's lunch and intervene with their Membrey to PSD plan. Essendon got Giles for pick 53. I can't imagine they're a more attractive destination than us. 1/10 (probably generous) Obviously keeping picks 2 and 3 was never the plan, but clubs clearly refused to offer anyone to show us what they thought about us getting the pick for Frawley. "Sure, they can have pick 3 for Frawley, but we ain't allowing their plan to play out by giving them an established player for it."
  5. Howe, Watts, Grimes in a heartbeat, for anything between 5 and 25. And if we believe the so called insiders, that gets the magical pick we required to convince Adelaide to let Danger go. Of course, that seems like rubbish now.
  6. Jason Winderlich springs to mind but is set to sign a new contract with Essendon after Mark Harvey's return to the club (according to yesterday's HS).
  7. So the point of the PSD is for uncontracted players that haven't been delisted, correct? Can we please list the ones of any note?
  8. If we'd done this yesterday we could've spent last night looking at options for picks 40 and 53. Essendon got Giles for pick 51 or thereabouts didn't they? I mean, come on... even Merrett would've been a great get with pick 40.
  9. ROUND 21, 2014: Melbourne vs GWS Final Score: 3.16.34 - 15.8.98 Neville Jetta, Tom McDonald, Colin Garland Jeremy Howe, Lynden Dunn, Daniel Cross Bernie Vince, Jack Watts, Matt Jones Dom Barry, James Frawley, Jack Viney Dean Kent, Chris Dawes, Max Gawn Mark Jamar, Nathan Jones, Dom Tyson Christian Salem, Viv Michie, Jack Grimes, Aidan Riley So we've traded out a grand total of.... ZERO players from the most embarrassing loss we've had since 186. Fantastic stuff.
  10. We were a chance for Cockatoo with 23. That's well and truly out the window now.
  11. So right now we have 0 list spots available. PLAYER MOVEMENTS In: Jeff Garlett (Carlton) Billy Stretch (father-son pick 38), Neville Jetta (rookie upgrade pick 80), Sam Frost (traded pick 23), Heretier Lamumba (traded Mitch Clark) Out: Shannon Byrnes (retired) Mitch Clark (Geelong) Mitch Clisby (delisted) James Frawley (Hawthorn) Dan Nicholson (delisted) DRAFT PICKS Picks: 2, 3, 40, 53 PSD: 2 (and beyond) LIKELY DELISTEES Luke Tapscott, Sam Blease, James Strauss (0 years remaining), Michael Evans (1 year remaining)
  12. Me either, happy to do it but are speculative draftees at pick 53 and 61 going to be much better?
  13. We'd need to pay out Evans, McKenzie and someone else to have 6 spots available.
  14. In which case Membrey, who they're dead keen on, would've gone to us. Doesn't make much sense. If we at least did this deal a day ago instead of waiting until 1:50pm, we could've made a play for Membrey AND Merrett with both these picks, and fulfilled the entire point of the trade period of getting senior, experienced bodies into the team. Mindboggling.
  15. So we have 3 available list spots, with 4 picks in the draft, and we want somone from the PSD?
  16. I can't even... without doubt the dumbest, most pathetic trade period we've had in years.
  17. That is possibly the most idiotic ending I could have imagined. What the HELL are we thinking? Trading our second rounder for 2 late picks (when we only have 3 list spots) for a player we could have gotten in the PSD.
  18. We can't use two more picks!? 40 for Lowden or Merrett or MEMBREY? Anyone please Demons!!!!!!!
  19. We'd want a player and an assurance they pass on Brayshaw if Petracca is gone.Ain't gonna happen with such little time left. Serves them right for dealing with the Saints and going nowhere when we had such a good trade relationship last year.
  20. That's big news if Saints knocked back that offer from GWS. Looks like GWS can still take Wright or McCartin at pick 4 to replace Boyd though, but more early round midfielders for picks 6 and 7 wouldn't have been on their agenda methinks.
  21. Watts to improve next year, hey? Maybe he'll run instead of jog to a contest for a change.
