  1. Its out of Simmonds, Jolly and Jamar. Jolly was raw and did little at MFC. Really White rucked single handedly up to the end of 2004 then with only sparing support from Jamar after that. Simmonds did not do enough for mine in the short time he was with MFC. The same could be argued about Jamar. I did not put a 2nd ruck in place due to the lack of a ruck deserving. The fact that we had only one ruckman during most of that decade reinforces that the team of the decade should only have one ruck.
  2. Local calls are good. Interstate calls of games are poor particularly in SA and WA. Use SEN as a back up. Cant stand Rex and MMM's coverage is a boofhead's delight (even more so next year)
  3. Here's mine at quick stab covering 2000 to 2009: Whelan Ingerson Bizzell Bruce Rivers Brown Yze Woewodin Johnston Green Schwartz Davey Farmer Neitz Robertson White McDonald Leoncelli Thompson S. Febey Wheatley Raffle it. Very hard to pick a team of the decade for MFC when there were some good years and some poor years. Recent years have been forgettable. I would like 7 or 8 of the existing list plus Scully and Trengove to be on the team of the decade list. Warnock and Nicho were in the mix given the lack of real class we have had up back for most of the decade.
  4. So must be your reasons be for posting such garbage. Amazing.
  5. So who plays our No 1 and 2 forward? Robbo was leading goal kicker this year but has been "retired". In the modern game the roles of FF/CHF are fluid at best. And in a forward line not plush with talent atm, Jurrah is hardly likely to be a shrinking violet. And finally, it would be healthy having people jumping off the bandwagon given Jurrah is already a "star" after nine games. The expectations on this kid are in some cases sky high. He will get more attention next year and it will be a real test. There might be a few heady expectations of Jurrah popped next year. I hope not but he will be a focus of oppositions.
  6. Not if you are still uncertain about Bailey as a Coach. You would only want to give one year which represents a lack of commitment Absolutely agree. Bump an old thread if anyone wants to talk this further. Now back to whether we play for the PP in 2010 which does not exist.!! :D
  7. They might be a preference for MFC but the Bailey would be asking why the drop in commitment when I have not dropped my commitment to longer term goals. In one of the threads I quote another poster covered that toward the end of year the even younger list of 2010 may not give you any clearer guide than you have now if Bailey is the Coach you want for the longer term. The uncertainty you have now maybe the uncertainty you still have in a year. Bailey wants3 years and are you comfortable offering him 2 years? Probably not. The choices you face now may well be easier than the significant ones you face within 12 months without any real clarity than DB is the appropriate person.
  8. I was thinking that too Jack. What if a Scully/Trengove come out and said they did not want to go to MFC? So much for ND! Also its scary to think that a young kid with football potential but no games and no club atm has a blood sucking manager gorging on them already! Sheesh.
  9. What would you be asking for if you were Bailey in regard to the expiry the current contract? After sacrificing short term goals of match day victories to clean out, recruit/draft and start to develop young players over three years, how receptive do you think Bailey would be to a "Look we are not really sure about you" one year new contract after your existing contract expires?
  10. If you dont consider a 1 year extension now then its going to be a vote of no confidence if you do it in the last half of next season in the last year of his contract. And you are unlikely to be in any better position to assess him for another three years at the mid year than you are now for a one year extension. Anyway this discussion has been done to death on other threads. http://forums.demonland.com/index.php?show...t=0&start=0 http://forums.demonland.com/index.php?show...t=0&start=0 But its naive to think MFC can just blithely offer a one year extension toward the end of a 3year contract with the expectation of continuing Bailey's coaching. Bailey and his management will be seeking a similar term of commitment from MFC.
  11. Neither will a number of footy dept people and players. Most understand the difficult path we have travelled over the past 3 years (And its been bloddy difficult). However, MFC does need to show tangible signs of improvement across a number of areas in 2010. A metric of winning less than 5 games for the year does not bode well.
  12. The first point is a given. The second point is irrelevant because it did not end up that way. Given that Luke Ball scenario was still to come up, how would we have got a better deal from another Club improving on pick 11 for McLean? We wouldn't particularly not with the Luke Ball saga.. So you still have not justified how we got a raw deal with Brock. The more you go on only highlights given the situation why the deal was a good one and that you could not put up a plausible scenario for it to be improved upon.
  13. Still does not say where you would play McPhee given our list. He is no KPF and we have the backline set. Its moot antway as by all reports he's off to Freo. Lloyd played a twlight season this year and was told he would struggle to get a spot in the Essendon side going forward. Lucas contribution is negligible and having him go would be a positive. Lovett did nothing in the 2nd half of the season when the real footy starts after a few cameos. In his current form, McPhee is coverable. Fletcher was only playing a third man tall and could continue to do that next year. Knights had key opposition players marked by younger players like Pears. Hopefully, Essendon get Hille back which will allow them to use Ryder more broadly around the ground. I agree with Hurley and Watson. With McPhee gone, Ball would be a great pick up for them at 26. I think they can maintain their ground gained this year but I dont see them improving on it.
  14. Thank God you're not playing them. If you going to recruit him then do so for the right and thought through reasons so some ignoramus "let make a stand on this" statements. I trust the MFC are alot more sage than some of the wisdom flying around here.
  15. Bill Barrot in the famous Barrott- Stewart swap in the 1970s. Peter Moore in the 80s went from a Club that played in 4 losing GFs ( ) to MFC that had not been in a GF for 20 years ( ). Jason Akermanis and Mal Michael might also be in the picture as well. Blumfield from Essendon? Would Darren Jolly qualify this year? B) There are probably others as well
  16. We can be ruthless but we dont have to be stupid in the process. No one is walking over us at all. I understand taking him at # 18 as the best available. But the decision should also take into account the fact he has not chosen to speak with us. Given CC and DB are overseas for the next 10 days gives me the indication that they have already spoken with potential players they are actually considering drafting. And Ball is not one of them. Fair summary of events.
  17. Enforcer said he has never been impressed by McPhee and cant work out why he was AA. His performances in 2004 and the accolades/awards that followed were clearly recognition of his performance in that year. He was very good in that year. I have recognised in my post that he is not off that standard now. I have already questioned another poster as to where McPhee fits in our side. I dont think he is a fit for us and where we are going. As for Trav? What you see is what you get. Seems to excite you with what he can offer but goes missing and melts when the heat is on. I have always recognised Trav's talent but his mindset and attitude means he has been and always will be a flawed gem. He is also a culture negative. I think a few of his performances late last year were a case of playing for a new contract. Over the course of that contract, Brisbane would be watching Grimes closely and saying "if only"
  18. What role would McPhee play at MFC given our list? Why? Must be a good player then. He also won the Bombers B&F in 2004 as well as being Essendon's highest B'low vote winner in a team that made it to the AFL semis. A fair achievement. Probably off that standard now but a good pick up for a young Freo
  19. How could it have been better? Who would have realistically offered more for him? What could have Carlton realistically offered in excess of pick 11? Fev? Cloke? If Ball had been on the market would Carlton have chased Ball and not Mclean? Would McLean have been prepared to go to another Club if he could not go to Carlton? McLean wanting to leave is one issue. And while he did have an interrupted pre season, to finish 11th in the Bluey from 19 games is a poor result from our "No 1 midfielder" in 2009. It will be interesting to see what draft pick Ball (ex Captain and ex- AA) goes for in the ND. It will be a good bellwether of the deal MFC got for McLean. Regardless, I doubt any outcome from Ball deal will change the fact that given McLean was leaving MFC that MFC given the circumstances did the best deal possible at the time.
  20. Very good article by Roebuck on Pakistan and West Indies who are both coming to Australia this summer. At one time both teams were to feared and admired. How far have they fallen. Both are dysfunctional hulks of their former selves. I doubt they'll hold themselves together for the length of a Test and self destruct.
  21. You will miss the irony of your post. If ever there were posts that routinely exhibits LCD understanding and thought its you Stinga. FWIW, Enright in his early years was a struggling player and battled. But they got rid of Moloney not Enright. Hmmm. Dont get a headache.
  22. You're getting bogged down in irrelevancy and semantics. Without gilding the lily GFC ranked Moloney 6 or 7 in the midfield and were prepared to let him go. Tenace is only training with us. If and only if they see some upside with him as opposed to other options (eg Thorp) whats the loss? PSD 1 that we would not have used anyway on that basis. I dont think it will go far but we should still explore it.
  23. All were expendable and neither Beamer and Prismall were deemed critical to Geelongs flag aspirations. Proven correct. So in a way they werent best 22. The other teams gave up significant draft picks for each player (Beamer and Prismall). We wont if we decide to chance on Tenace. We probably wont. We're just letting Tenace train with us. Nothing to get too worried about.
