  1. It seems like it and that's good news. Thanks for the report. Other news... the club was interested in Grimes if a couple of other things hadn't panned out. Young Dylan has been very unlucky as we will be taking MacDonald with PSD1, and unless Newton or Mighty Meese get picked up somewhere, we have no available rookie spots. Nice touch. I hope he gives it his best shot. And if he is good enough.....
  2. Agree with all that and thanks Barry for the report. Bailey on SEN said that there policy from the outset was to get Ball in the PSD and to take young talent in the ND. When Ball nominated for the ND then the his was outside the policy and MFC took 4 quailty midfielders. I do like this statement. "The belief and confidence in our choices tonight were irrepressible. Our FD were on a mission. The picks were not random, they were cold and calculated. The only surprise was that Tapscott presented as late in the draft as he did."
  3. The Age had him at 97kgs but Bailey on SEN described Gawn as a big unit. At 17 he is in the wings and will be developed. He is still a kid and an apparently still growing one too.
  4. Any chance your side will call for a re- match? Defoe would be a dangerous FP in AFL. Knows where the goals are
  5. Do it for the others that have questioned the validity. Nothing like blaming someone else for cop out is there. Its a pity you have tried to denigrate me and rebut me without ever understanding my argument. Go and re read. Its not a trend its a process I referred to. I made an assessment of the individual outcome of certain players drafted. Now run along and do the "research" before you coming to anymore trite conclusions. Its becoming a habit.
  6. Its hard to make it out TU. SL went in with one seamer and three spinners according to Cricinfo. Murali is in the twilight and Mendis is no mystery. The wicket was pretty ordinary the bowling was worse. Agree with that TU. Normally when you win the toss you want the "best of the pitch". Typically a good pitch should offer the bat and ball reasonable challenge. While the bowlers might get some green on the strip, the batsman have a hard true wicket where the bounce is reliable with little turn day one. Also the result of the game at the end of day 5 may not necessarily invalidate the toss decision on the morning of day 1. Interesting figures 45hg16. Well done. Cricinfo the bible???
  7. Agree with HT and 45Hg16. I thought the topic was a worthy one but the quality of the report was questionable. I enjoyed Martin Flanagan's take on it more.
  8. Lets not jump to conclusions on the state of the player or the player's behaviour. His shoulder injury was a collision injury not a soft tissue or body problem. What was the cause of the broken wrist?
  9. Why? They have lost Hall, Barry, O'Loughlin and Jolly. How can they avoid the re build? They cant. Its Roos last year. Longmire will have no choice but to continue to pension off the remnants of the 2005 premiership.
  10. As I thought, you dont get it and you are too scared to do the work. Typical. Tried tealeaves?? AFL recruiitment has got better but it is not fool proof. Its too early to make the "gun" call on 1 and 2 picks from 2006 to 2008. Prior to then I think Thomas is an iffy quality for the second best footballer in the draft. And Walker has been a fail. I hope we hit the jackpot with Watts and Sculgove.
  11. Do the work. Regression analysis you talk of will not prove any linkage. It will just be a list of mutually exclusive events It indicates nothing of use that would impact decisions that would be made in the current draft. Its that simple So far you spout about facts and unbiased evidence and have given none whatsoever in this thread or other thread involving this issue. All you have done is give an opinion based on flawed logic laced with pretence. You have done nothing to disprove my statement nor disprove my analogy of comparing various annual drafts with weekly tattslotto. Either you understand it or you dont.
  12. Garland and Frawley can both provide those roles and have played that role in the past. If he frees up a player to play elsewhere to the benefit of the side then fine.
  13. Cashflow statements and profit and loss statements are interlinked. For a true picture of the operating situation you would look at both in conjunction with the balance sheet and accompanying notes. All AFL Clubs are required by law to comply with Australian Accounting Standards. Under accounting standards "donations" or gifts are taken through the P/L regardless of their specific purpose or the profit status of the entity. You are right we have reduced our debt. The debt proceeds of approx. $800k is income. The reduced debt over the past 2 years has indeed reduced our interest costs. Generation of increased revenues is to come from TV rights, memberships, sponsorship and the MCC. All four avenues need to be sustainably increased for us to be viable.
  14. I think this information is known and given but is not harbinger of what your options are in the current draft. But we are on the same track here. Sorry for the way the OP was using the information it is the same case. Each situation outcome is mutually exclusive of the other. I think you are arguing the point I made originally. The fact that 100 heads comes up will make you never want to call tails again. :D
  15. It shouldn't. The AFL will ensure that each Club is accounting on a consistent basis. If the Pies are taking it up next year then so will we.
  16. Sorry Bub...dealing with the facts again. Good luck with the fantasy.
  17. But that issue was not needed to be proven. It was known already. The issue the OP had was that it assisted us in determining whether to take Ball or not. It does not provide any plausible or reliable evidence. Its fools gold. Its flawed. The Lotto example is exactly the same as what the OP and misguided others are trying to do. To use past outcomes to provide a reliable indicator of a future outcome is incorrect. The outcomes in one draft are dependent on issues and considerations pertinent to the draft (ie teams order of selection, quaility of draft pool, nature of current game etc) and is mutually exclusive to the outcomes in another draft. Its not that hard to understand.
  18. Careful. The "small profit" could as much an illusion as a fair AFL fixture. Proceeds to reduce debt are taken as revenue in the Profit/Loss. I think the debt reduction this FY has been in the vicinity of $2 mil thereabouts. Someone can confirm this it would be great. Also we did get special AFL funding as well in the past 12 months which is not necessarily recurring. There has been alot of good work done by the MFC Board and executive to turn the ship around. However the real test is to establish MFC as a sustainable financial viable and solid club. Small steps have been taken...but its a loooonnnggg march still to go.
  19. Leave your childhood horrors out of this. I am not surprised your impressed by those figures Jacka and its ironic you put weight on the "facts". Good grief. BTW its Joyce, not Joice. Well done on spelling Barnaby correctly. Top notch. Haha. I agree. My comment only served to highlight that pas draft choices have as much bearing on the Boxing Day Test as it does on whether we should choose Ball or not. Not that some can work that out.
  20. Cripes. I read the article and all my spoons bent. Seriously, if its going to happen anywhere then Russia, Bulgaria or Columbia seem about right. The funny thing is that 18 people buy that kooked wisdom picked the six winning numbers and won approx $3,000. Is that lucky or unlucky? No it isn't. Except in Bulgaria, the numbers in lotto drawn in one week are not dependent upon earlier draws. The same for the AFL draft. Past year outcomes do not affect this years outcomes. Past year draft picks are no reliable indicator of who or what type of player you will take in the current draft. Inconclusive but I would sure bat if I won the toss in the Boxing Day Test.
  21. So its true. You can actually pick the winning Tattslotto numbers this week based on what has happened in the past. Good to know.
  22. The Poll does not address that. No it isn't at all. Green went to market last year and he could not do better than he was offered at MFC. Davey was offered and accepted a 4 year deal more than any other player. He chose to refuse the more lucrative Freo deal. Both players know where MFC is at. They know we are paying well below the salary cap. They do know we will recruit players to suit our LT ambitions. If Ball is recruited he will be as a experienced player in the midfield with ball winning ability. At 25, he is also able to provide leadership support. Its more a recognition that our leadership group needs support. And yes Green and Davey would be well aware of that too.
  23. Some people have voted.... No, I don't think he'd be as valuable as a young prospect would be. But then have voted.... Yes. Take him if he is the best player available at that pick. Interesting..
  24. Agree. I would not underestimate the Hawks if they get their best fit in 2010. Conversely we have a young list and I can easily see the Class of 2007 to 2009 tiring by round 17-18. I have tempered my optimism somewhat and had us at 8 wins. Tigers and Roos twice, Sydney, Freo, WCE and Port.
