  1. I doubt it. Not with Fraser O'Bree Davis Presti Lockyer getting a game in the ressie. They have cut alot of wood of their list this year. I would have thought at a guess that North Melbourne might be one of them. Edit: Thanks Peanuts. Bugger it had to be the Tigers!! Oh but posters will though.
  2. You may be in your element Chook. B) As a player you would do what every maxmimises your career returns. "Loyalty" comes with a price these days. As others pointed out walking out and being traded are different situations.
  3. Agree Nasher. YM had a long long history of site indiscretions (some of them nasty) and in hindsight he was offered too many opportunities at redemption by D'land. He was a serial offender on other sites like Demonology. Good riddance.
  4. You're normally on the ball rpfc with alot of matters. I dont think so here though.
  5. For players, football is business,a profession, a career and potentially if your successful a means to set yourself up in life financially and career wise within and outside football. With the risk of injury, ageing etc, a footballer must seek to maximise his career outcome and push to secure as much career security as you can. Its a tough gig AFL and one contact injury could destroy your career and potentially 100k's of dollars. Its easy for supporters to bang on about "loyalty" particularly when they have little more than "emotive" skin in the game. Its one of a number of considerations but it is not necessarily the be all and end all. I dont begrudge a player (or their manager) seeking to maximise their outcomes. And player contracts are a negotiated position by the player and the Club. However, I sometimes think some of the player managers dont represent their players interests well.
  6. Any rookie or PSD pick (sans Nick Stevens) that has carved out an enduring AFL career gets my vote. I would have thought Junior, Brett Kirk, Russell Robertson, Dean Cox and Aaron Davey. Mark Jamar might just become one of those great stories too in a couple of years. You could argue Darren Jolly but the teams where he has played his best football each gave 1st round picks for him. Maybe Ash can confirm but Hird may not have been a F/S as he sustained a serious hip injury as a junior which undermined his trade value.
  7. He's definitely a noxious skunk! Agree on Bruce. Its a worry if it were John Meesen though. That was my understanding too.
  8. I merely raised a question how you can form a judgement on micro aspects of the coaching when you are not close to the action. And in about 300 words or so I garner its just on hearsay. And for your benefit, I merely gave an opinion like you did. And if you want to give an opinion without comment from others try a blog.
  9. At the moment he is not contracted at the Club. He would not be deemed an employee of the Club for work cover/ injury insurance purposes. Its as much a protection of the Club and the players rights. If he is injured at training with no contract then Bruce would prima facie have to pick up the tab if the Club didnt and would then have to potentially sue the Club for costs and loss of earnings if the injury is serious enough. What would happen if Bruce without contract had a training mishap and had to have full 12 month knee reco. Would MFC sign him on the one year contract then? Would Bruce have grounds to claim on MFC? Possibly.
  10. I hope you get better 45hg!! Seriously you are spot. And if a poster cant be rightly for challenged for verbatim parroting an ex-player (who ever that might be) who is only giving his opinion then it is indeed a dictatorship. And I cant work why the poster thinks that barracking for the Club for 50 years and been a member for 42 years put them ob any higher scale than their own confused sense of self importance. Like I said before people can always get a blog.....
  11. Agree. Agree. But I dont believe he is playing a dangerous game for 2012. Its what he does on the field this year that counts. Have you ever tried to enforce the terms of a verbal contract in the Courts?? At the moment you dont know what has been agreed to and that either or both parties have committed to contractual arrangements. The issue is not whether he will turn up Monday but what the state of his contract discussion is. And HT lives in a burrow in the ground so you are losing out big time offering a tin shed. B)
  12. Unfortunately, discussion of this topic does have to be monitored because different posters have different assessments of "if we respectfully discuss what is in the public domain" just like the experience to date with posters interpretations of the straightforward rules of this site. I have no doubt that every post made is graciously but at times the judgement of some posters as to what to post is not appropriate. And for the record, there have been a couple of feckless posts deleted from the site that have soought to peddle dire "facts" about Jimmy's disposition. And your insinuation accusation is ignorant and uncalled for.
  13. As a supporter in the crowd how could you possilby make any informed assessment of the individual members of the coaching group and what Bailey is doing his management style? You have yet to demonstrate that here. A bad case of misperception working overtime to cover a chronic lack of facts. The addition of Viney and Royal does from the outside provide greater experience. However, I dont think Connolly lacks experience and given Wellman and West's AFL records, its naive to call them inexperienced. Mark Williams is also on the coaching panel and I dont think he is inexperienced in the role he plays. And given the young side Bailey has and the blooding process he is undertaking I would have thought 6 out of 10 would have been a very good result. Any "break out" year Bailey is going to have is going to be largely dependent on the players he has ready to break out themselves. Some of the talent is still less then 3 years oof experience and he still has to blood players like Tapscott, Blease, Fitz, Gawn etc.
  14. Not that you'd get the point cali but Ratten had one year as midfield coach when White was AA and Scott Thompson was outstanding in the centre. It was not a case of Ratten going from MFC and the midfield collapsing. There were other factors at play. But I am sure you will dredge up some fantasy floss to suggest otherwise.
  15. Nothing like idle speculation in the absence of the facts. Royal... a very nice person...what a balanced view. Scott Thompson had a big impact on our midfield and left. Jeff White was AA ruckman in 2004 then got neutered by the centre circle rule. Hmmmm In other words you dont know one from the other. Nah. I doubt it.
  16. Well go ahead and better it. Time to put up.....
  17. Nothing like an unwarranted self tyre pump.
  18. Agree with that. The problem is that many people who think they have the "facts" dont and they spread hearsay which is no more than someelse's hearsay. I dont think its appropriate to have such misinformation hit the forum particularly on such a sensitive topic and when the ability to validate the information is opaque. That is why we should be relying on Club/media releases where the facts are more substantiated that what is sometimes peddled (even in good faith) here. Unfortunately, posters have no reasonable gauge on what is a "private" issue and nor are they in a position to detect rumours from the "facts". Everyone is concerned for Jimmy's health but this does not justify the discussion (informed or otherwise) his state of health or what treatment he is having unless it can tied to a reliable media source (eg major media outlet and not Big Footy!)
  19. Correct. Its a no brainer that the Captaincty would then be out of Green and Davey. I hope its Green.
  20. And if he is a rookie pick then we cant necessarily draw on him unless there is a LT injury.
  21. Agree. Or just his manager blabbing. Indeed. Especially when you have track form on the source. There are posters whose information I would trust and then there is..well... A verbal agreement is not the same as a written executed agreement. At present it is still offer on the table until Bruce signs.
  22. Jimmy's personal health is not a topic for speculation, idle rumour or unsubstanted "fact" on this site. I suggest we wish the big bloke well with the challenges before him and wait until there are public announcements in the media. Good luck Jimma!
  23. Hardly, Trengove and Grimes have already done more than TJ in his first 4 years at MFC. PJ was always a speculative pick up as a young ruck at 20. He did not establish himself at this level. We gave up pick 29 for him in 2004. Chris Johnson was F/S at pick 36 who wasn't a touch on his great father. Hardly a big loss there. And aside from TJ, the other two were never pivotal to our list.
