  1. Selwood the winner Pendelbury 2nd Jones 3rd some interesting votes - Gibbs got a few too many votes - Rider also not in the top 5 either but overall i think they got it right...
  2. i thought bruce and pick 18 were going to the Roos for Wells
  3. yep great! lets pick up another player that is old and fat... he and pickett can form a club of players who earn over $250,000 per year and spend the first 8 weeks of a season in the 2's getting their weight down cause they aren't committed enough to put in a hard pre season if pickett is lucky he may join him on a saturday night bender before a sunday game brey, Whitnall is nowhere near an upgrade on dutchy, the fact that it was even suggested is an insult to holland
  4. i caught the start of it but got a bloody phone call from work... it was actually a replay from a few weeks ago before a port adelaide game all i heard him say was that what he had learnt most from his time at essendon and port was that communication and motivating the players was at the heart of his football philosophy
  5. Coming up this hour on SEN between 2 and 3 o'clock Should be interesting listening...
  6. Saw him last night at about 2am on Fitzroy Street with Nathan Jones and Chook ... looked a little full of the juice too ... not really surprising that he pulled out!
  7. Hopefully Buckley in if that is the case... Would love to see Dunn line up in the square for the first bounce
  8. where's the none of the above option? Williams or McKenna for mine i think... but if i had to choose of that list, sheedy.
  9. just PM me hards and i'll be more than happy to take over the cup, im clearing space on the mantle as we speak :D
  10. the next game is an absolute must win!! i dont really mind about the last 2 but we must win for the greatest player i have ever seen pull on the red and blue in his 300th.
  11. if its not too much trouble could someone please post the link to that article. thanks, cactus
  12. hards, devo to hear about the loss of my foward pocket! was really looking forward to getting the old line of you me and mfc back together. best of luck with the ESPN job sounds amazing! if you could pull a few strings and get the next game televised that would be great... the americans wont know whats hit them. lol.
  13. I have been thinking about this for a while and i think that in this time where we are choosing a new coach is the right time to bring it up. Melbourne has a fantastic board who are slowly and safely bringing us out of debt. They are working hard on getting us into some new facilities and trying to build the brand up to somewhere close to the collingwoods and essendons. Craig Cameron is supposedly one of the best recruiters in the league, constantly getting good players late in that draft and through the rookie draft. There have been some dodgy higher picks however. We have had the same coach for the last 10 years, and he was generally regarded as a good coach who at certain stages got the best out of the list. It has been 7 years since we last went really deep into september and there are teams such as port adelaide, brisbane, collingwood, essendon and hawthorn seem to be streets ahead of us, yet were involved deep into september after us. All this leads me to the question: Where are we going wrong? I genuinely think that we are too soft on our senior players. The likes of Johnstone get away with too many lazy efforts and set a bad example to the younger kids. Bruce wouldn't have had a good blast for a long time, whilst his kicking and decision making continues to erode. Yze's front running efforts have kept him in the team to the point where in was reprted he was playing to take the games record of Jim Stynes, looking back now how appropriate would it have been if he took over the record? Posters around here constantly criticise the likes of holland and godfrey but as the astute few have noticed on many occasions, the so called 'star' players could learn a lot from the effort that these less skilled players put in. Our list is overrated i believe, but unfortunately we can only delist 6 players per year. The people complaining about sheedy picking up all the aborigional players should have a look at how many premierships he has won compared to us in the last 27 years. IF he comes to the club i believe he should have a say in the recruitment, along with CAC. We are going in the right direction but lately i have taken a huge reality hit and realised that we are not as close as some think we are. With the current list we wont win a premiership and our next viable option for a shot at it i belive is when the likes of McLean, Bate, Sylvia, Jones, Moloney, Pettard, Newton, Rivers, Bell are in their late 20's and the core group of our football club. The shame in this is that champions of our club who bleed red and blue such as Neita, Robbo, Green, JMac and Jeff White will play out their careers building for the future. I am still young and have hope that we can return to the power that we were during the middle of the last century. But realistically, it wont be in the next 5 years.
  14. sheedy for mine, i think he would be great! all this 'past his used by date' is crap... if he can average a premiership every 6 years he is doing something right. we need someone who has had nothing to do with the club and its mentality over that last 20 to 30 years, so that rules out viney, conolly and ratten. Pagan would be a disaster McKenna would be a good find from all reports Ideal situation: we can get someone to work under sheeds for 4 or 5 years and then take over. The club has a massive opportunity to set a new standard and culture with this choice of coach... i just really hope they make the right decision. by the way, does anyone know when we can expect a result?? im assuming sometime after the GF but before preseason starts, or could it be earlier?
  15. i had chad cornes as dream team captain becuase he was playing us.... 144!!!
  16. yeah sorry queen, i was working on the assumption that carlton would lose every game from here to then.
  17. yes we do, at the end of the first round. Just like Essendon and Carlton last year. If we do the same again next year, we get a pick at the start of the draft.
  18. i am a big fan of murphy but campbell is an unknown to me. the only worry is that fremantle will want more that we are willing to give up... plus what has that club done to him because they dont have the best discipline record, on or off the field. assuming we wanted him, i think we would offer a 2nd or 3rd round pick... and freo wont accept.
  19. i was on the carlton plane back from sydney on sunday, somewhat unfortunate, but i did get a chance to speak to brett ratten on the bus on the way to long term carpark. He seemed really excited about coaching the dees, he said he was in the process of the applying and he was looking forward to it a lot. We got onto talking about other things such as the dockers (he doeasnt rate connoly) and money AFL clubs spend per year, which was really interesting. I think he would be a great coach!
  20. this may seem stupid, but how do i watch it? i have signed up but i really dont understand these kinds of things.... thanks
  21. how's it coming along? when will we be re-living that magical day?
  22. really happy with the way he is coming on, but his set shots need some work. His technique is not quite right, case in point last night when he sprayed one from about 20m out... something for him to work on, but nobody is perfect
  23. 1) 3 Melbourne players from the past ten years who you hate/hated seeing in other team colours. Woewodin, Thompson, Simmonds 2) 3 current Melbourne players you would like to see in other team colours. Yze, Ward, Ferguson 3) 3 current Melbourne players you would cry if you saw in other team colours McLean, Neitz, Bell
  24. NOOO!!! ill join you at the last couple of games if it looks like it might happen...
  25. for mine, that backline is too small no matter what team we are playing. Holland should get a game everyweek in the form he is in because all teams will exploit our size if we go in with that team. Bizz is 188cm and 89 kg's Carroll is 191 cm and 91kg's Rivers 192 cm and 92 kg's Wheatley 189 cm and 88 kg's Wheatley and Bizz aren't key defenders Carroll has been a lot better this year after the first few games as a zoning off defender droping into the hole, as opposed to playing on the key forward. Which leaves rivers to play on the key forward, and we all know how good he is, but its only one real key backman with form on he board this year. If this defence fails in containing their opponants, we will be forced to use Johnson down back, which leaves white to ruck all day?? Holland adds that versatililty that is needed.
