The Drums are starting to beat for North
Mickey replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
I disagree that the league can't support 19, and then 20 teams. What it can't support is 9 teams in Melbourne. -

Nathan Jones joins MFC as an Assistant Coach
Mickey replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
It fits both narratives. Either it's an example of a favourite son wanting to get back into the fold, or its a knee jerk reaction from a club that thinks it needs a feel good story to appease disgruntled fans. -
For what it's worth, the latest in The Age yesterday said other recuiters thought we were unlikely to swap picks

I think Richmond would take Langford at 6.
-
If this is the case, it simply has to be Smith or Langford. Neither will last til 9
-
Yeah, interested to see where he goes. Obviously the ACL had him out of sight, out of mind, but in one of his last games he had 32 touches, 10 marks and 4 goals.

Was it a mistake? I thought this came out after the draft

Big and fast, but didn't hit a single target by foot in that whole video

So, you wouldn't do a first rounder this year and next year? Especially if it's not that much of a slide? Fair enough. If it's still pretty close to 9 and we think the player we want will still be available, they might. They did when we picked up Kozzie in 2019
-
We'll get good offers for 5, and don't expect us to take it. But if there is a real slider available at 9, I'd expect some clubs to out up truly crazy offers. And if it's something like mid-teens and a first rounder next year, or slide a couple picks for a early second rounder, I think we'll have a long hard think about it.
-
Yeah, it generally helps to put the genesis for the post, in the post. Here it is:
-
Pick 1* next year, for a start... Probably not but we can always dream
-
They have even less to trade for him now. AFL won't let them trade 2 F1s for a 30yr old when they aren't taking a first rounder this year
-
🤞 I think the angst will only increase if Freo nab Allen just ahead of them
-
What are Port doing there? Giving up Houston AND a future first for 13 and some fringe players
-
Not necessarily advocating for this, but... There's a lot of angst among WC fans about them dropping to 12, and with Freo having the 2 picks above them it's unlikely they'll get Bo Allen. Would they significantly overpay to get 9, say 12 and a future 1st for 9 and our future 2nd? Maybe something crazy they'll throw up on draft night?
-
I thought that related just to trading F1s? I.e., you haven't taken at least 2 1st round picks in 4 years, so you can't trade another future 1st. I may be wrong.
-
AFL rules don't allow you to trade future 2+ round picks if you've traded out your future first. Because we used our future third in the Adelaide trade, and our future first in the pick 9 trade, our other future picks are currently untradeable
-
It might be cynical, but I hope this is based on merit and not just a feel good news story expected to excite the fan base. I think we're beyond that now, and just need the best people, regardless of their background

Afl.com reporting we offered 49, Brisbane initially wanted more. Reckon it probably gets done but maybe nothing back our way
-
Could we do 49 for Sharp, 60 and 66? Gives Brisbane another roughly 100pts Or 49 for Sharp and 66, knowing 66 will come in substantially (10-15 places or so) when Brisbane, Essendon and GC match their academy picks?
