Zebras - First Practice Match

Beach Road Bazza

Recommended Posts

Sandringham starts its pre season campaign next weekend with two practice matches at Trevor Barker Beach Oval against old rivals Port Melbourne.

Saturday 1 March 2008#

Seniors start 2.00pm, Reserves at 11.10am.

Admission:

Adults - $5

Concession - $3

Visiting Members - $3

Sandringham Season Ticket Holders - FREE

With the Demons likely to step up their own campaign and some experienced faces due to return to the team for Friday night's Nab Challenge game v Western Bulldogs, we can expect to see some fresh new faces to the lists of both clubs as well as some of our old Zebra favourites.

I'm not up to speed so far as memberships are concerned but last year MFC members could pick up a SFC membership for free. Hopefully, the same applies this year.

# as advised on SandyFC site.

There's a good article on the Zebras in this week's Inside Football by Paul Amy entitled 'Hungry' Zebs rue one that got away.

He writes that when Andy Lovell arrived at Sandringham, he wondered if complacency had set into the club but he has found the opposite - a sense of unfinished business. This filters through from the top to the senior players who have trained extremely well - Pete Summers, Rod Crowe, Chris Lamb, Chad Liddell and Ezra Poyas have all been fantastic. Same with Ezra Poyas.

President Gerry Ryan confirmed the sense of failure and spoke of the fact that there's "a lot of determination about the club" ... "a lot of enthusiasm." He said Lovell had impressed "in every way" and the club believed he would "take us to another level".

The Zebras have, in the main, stayed out of the recruiting game over summer, preferring to push up the group of young players who emerged impressively last year including Tomi Johnston, Sam Monaghan and Rennie Gilchrist who have all been training well. However, Stuart Cleeve, a 194cm key position forward could take a step up to senior level after two seasons with the reserves. Other signings include 2007 Dragons best and fairest Brad Gilder, Beaumaris midfielder/half forward Chris Waller and Southport's Andrew McConnell, who came out of the Dragons' program at the end of 2006.

Delisted Melbourne rookie Danny Hughes, who was drafted from Sandy, is staying at Trevor Barker Oval but groin and hip operations will keep him but of the first half of the season and Scott Lockwood is also back.

I think we need to lobby Sandringham FC to move the practice match against Box Hill on Sunday March 23rd back an hour so its all over by just after 3pm so everyone (supporters, coaches, players) can make it back to the MCG.

As it stands right now, Sandy play Box Hill at 2pm which will go until 4.15 or so, doesn't given anybody much time.

Surely clashes should be avoided when it comes to praccy games. Particularly when its Sandy v Box Hill and Melbourne v Hawthorn!

I have confirmed with Sandy admin. that MFC members are admitted free to Sandringham home games as in past years, on presentation of their MFC membership card. CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
