Exactly Rhino - good get that!

I believe Danny was part of the infamous Lachlan Veale trade... anyhoo... not surprisingly he doesn't fit into Clarko's new accountability regime down there in Hawk land.

I agree JJC that Fergs is brave... but, unfortunately he just isn't big enough and his decision making is questionable. There are some clubs making some desperate gurgling noises re trading for KPP (Bulldogs) so he maybe offered a lifeline somewhere.

You never know, they did pick up McDudall!

I actually rate McDougal. Just think a big man will always struggle in the doggies system.

Why?

He has shown himself inept and not up to it at 2 clubs (WB and WCE).

The WB are crying out to have effective big men and McDougall just has not stepped up.

Well it always takes a while for a big man to develop and it was hard to slide into an already powerful eagles side. Therefore a developing big man really had no place in that team. However he wasn't horrible, I happened to really watch out for him back at West Coast cause I liked using him in AFL on sony (weird reason to like but yeah). He had some strong games and did show something and by that account it didn't seem like a bad idea of the Dogs to get him.

However it doesn't matter how good the player may or may not be. I just do not think a big man can fit into the doggies system, they use speed through run, handball. It doesn't accomodate the big forward like McDougal. They have running goals, Gian, Johnson, Murphy, Higgins, there line up and style accomodate small players.

Like Rawling, McDougall and whoever most likely goes there this year. Will struggle.

I admit, he's not fast, he's not young,and he's not great body-on-body.

U're not exactly putting up a great case to keep him.

I know his brave but we need a mix of talented playas who are brave, hard etc etc.

We've got too many playas either one or the other.

No one can see him more then depth (God i hate that word) so that 'depth' list needs to be cut in half. Which is happening

Bottom line is.... his negatives (massive -ve weak body on body player with no pace) far outweighs his positives.

while a bit off topic... in relation to delisting Fergy... I think he could be quite a handy forward pocket.... but thats my 2 cents.

Wanna be a football analyst? Cause if you want to, you will make about 2 cents with that ingenious insight.

Sorry to be a smart arse. I could see why you would think that. He has played up forward at Sandy, but he doesn't have the neccessary talent. I just can't see fergie beating a O'brien or Fisher or even a Dawson. Plus I wouldn't feel safe with him kicking for goal with the game on the line.

I agree. Looked good up forward for Sandringham last weekend.

I think it's great that the club has posted tributes to the two high-profile delistees, Godders and Wardy, a very nice sentiment:

Godders: http://melbournefc.com.au/Season2007/News/...px?newsId=51055

Wardy: http://melbournefc.com.au/Season2007/News/...px?newsId=51117

Well done to both of them for squeezing as much out of their abilities as they could over the journey...

So after they run and handball where do they kick it to?......a small forward.

Why do they kick to a small forward?..........They have to because they dont have a tall forward.

But they have MCdougall dont they?............

Bulldogs are forced to play the way they do because of their list. Their running goals (when they get them) are a consequence of not being able to penetrate the F50 with a marking option.

The Bulldogs game plan is crap and every side is onto them and exploits their weaknesses. They need tall capable forwards. They recruit Rawlings and McDougall to do that. And you know what? Neither have been any good. It would not make any sense to recruit tall players and then say they do not suit the game plan. Why would you recruit them?

Eade is forced now to trade to get marking options and KPP players both back and forward. Otherwise they will be cellar dwellers next year.

The problem is the gameplan. When they play a big bloke up forward it doesn't work. They do not kick it to a big bloke because they want to run and handball.

It's rare they kick to a small player and there gameplan doesn't accomodate looking for a big option so it isn't a constant for them, we knowm kick it to Neitz, every player for Melbourne knows that.

The doggies mind is run and short kicks. Not kick long to a big leading forward. It is there gameplan that perils alot of these big guys. The gameplan has been the big hoo-rah at the doggies. They wanted small running players, cause it is their plan. That is why they got Aker. They didn't have good big blokes last year yet they spent all there time getting Aker cause he fit the game plan.

A big bloke, right now, with the run and carry style has no chance.

The problem is the gameplan.

A little education. A coach looks at his list and designs a gameplan. He does not design a game plan then look at his list.

Why is the the game plan as it is and why is it a problem.......its the list. WB are crying out for effective big men. They dont have them...Mc Dougall....Doh!! :o

A big bloke, right now, with the run and carry style has no chance.

WCE play a run and carry game plan and they have the follow big blokes.....Cox, Seaby, Staker, Lynch and Hansen....Huh!

McDougall was at WCE wasnt he?

Maybe he is not good enough :o:o:o

I just hope that when Bailey looks at the current MFC list he sees one thing.

Run and Carry.

If he does he's a twit.

Run and carry is a strategy not a list atttribute.

I wonder if they have made the link of run and carry with global warming yet.

I have it on very good authority (Rocket) that the problem with McDougall isn't talent, but it's all between the ears!

Was Daniher a twit?

You just said that "a coach looks at his list and designs a gameplan". When did I make any reference to list attributes?

You said when Bailey looks at the list he sees run and carry. A gameplan is something you apply to a group of player not identify it as an attribute of the list.

If Bailey does seek to actually apply that gameplan I'll call him and make sure he explains it to you first. ;)

So did it Rocket actually say that to you or do you anjoy name dropping to give your opinion substance?

Its between the ears. Hell that inflicts 95% of AFL footballers

It was in response to "a coach looks at his list and designs a gameplan".

My comment was in reference to Bailey looking at the list and wanting to apply "run and carry".

Yeah.....I enjoy name dropping.........give me a break!

Do you enjoy being a muppet?

It's not even my opinion......just adding what I heard the coach say when asked about McDougall. (At a Dogs corporate function recently)

As much as I admired Godders efforts this year I had to laugh when I read this quote in todays sun..

"If we had 22 Simon Godfreys in the side each week this year we wouldn't have lost a game" - Daniel Ward

I think Pickett, Bizz, Brown, Ward, and Godfrey are a good start. Not many are in our best team, and most will be 30+ in 2008.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the trio Holland, Warnock, and Ferguson.

Unless traded, I think everyone else is safe.

EDIT: Given the vibe on Demonland I was a little surprised about Neaves, but I haven't seen much of him.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
